no congratulations mate it was all the umpires doing was it ????? afl cairns gave saints 3 in a row did they!!!!!! winners are grinners douche you've had a great year!!!!!

What the hell are you on about mate? bit pissed were we? haha

Good on the saints, I picked them to win, why wouldnt they. Can anyone tell me, is sam boxall's head still on the ground in the right forward pocket at the entrance end? lol

Coatesworth should have got the norm smith, by a mile!

I am being honest, the president is going nowhere and there are several new faces on the committee, and we all fully believe that we are headed in the right direction. Of course nothing in life is certain, all I can say is that we are still alive and kicking strongly. And I will guarantee there will be 100 Tiger supporters there today, let alone other clubs. Would be silly of Hawks not to push their kids into seniors. Didn't your 18s go undefeated? We are in the same boat, juniors very strong, good core of senior players, just need to recruit well and we will be a force next year.

Well done to Norths in taking out the Ressies. Watsons I told you they''d win:D. And as much as it pains me to say this, Saints were the better team on the day. Port were very flat. I hope and I don't mean to offend anybody when I say, it just goes to show that you can't buy premierships.

But even if they had of won it, surely it wouldn't be a true club victory would it? I mean if you have half your side or more recruited from out of town to come up, get some cash, win a flag and head off the next year then isn't that a hollow and shallow kind of flag? I may be wrong but I believe a club that builds a flag over x amount of years with a group of locals (with maybe a 2 or 3 of recruits) is a club that will really own that premiership. And re port 2010, the old saying "cheque book champions" springs to mind. How often have we seen that happen, the side that recruits so aggressively gets pipped at the post? I have plenty over the years.

Well done to saints, they are a big victorian contingent but have all stayed loyal since their arrival and built a terrific culture. And Hammond wasn't my pick either, but good on him!

Congratulations to Cairns Saints.. they were to good on the day.. Port Douglas are a different identity to any other club in AFL CAIRNS.. If they the don't import players .. the club does not field 2 teams..I think they done a great effort to do what they did...Cairns Saints have a fantastic culture.. only to be followed by Port Douglas.. Port are not different to any other club in the league, all trying to do there best to survive.. and to there credit.. saints are winning that battle..KEEP PUNCHING

Flintstone.. what club does'nt pay players.. it bewilders me when people say that clubs try to buy premierships.. thats how the game works you dipstick.. and it will never change.. every club has different dymanics, and do what works for them.. i think you would be surprised what the lower clubs payed out this season.. i'm pretty sure all players got a can of coke and a four'n'twenty

I know people find it hard to believe but Saints dont pay players. They pay their playing coaches and assistant coaches but no players purely get paid for playing. There is a great incentive package for players each week if they play well which is the right way to go. If you play well then you will make money and earn it

And how many playing assistant coaches do they have????
I must agree though, the good incentive scheme is the way to go

haha have to agree, how many assistants and coaching staff are there at saints?

Incentives are good, it weeds out the pretenders who think they have a big rep and prance around playing loose never even entertaining the thought of a team orientated one percenter!

Out of interest, how much did Norths pay out this year? At start we all heard plenty! True or not so much Watsons?

Lachrilly, sounds like a good idea, nothing new coming out of Saints we havent already heard. Question 1: How much $$$ are we talking about incentive pack for players? Question 2: You find the cream of the crop getting the awards / incentives week in week out, how do you keep the rest of the group interested? Do you maybe fudge the results and bring in those players, keep them interested with a incentive here and there?

Saints had 2 playing assistants this year. I'm not sure of the exact amounts of the weekly best player awards but im sure they are something i wouldn't mind getting. And talking about the big names always getting in the best players thats not far off, who would have had Smith or Minchington in their best for crocs on Saturday. I know Crocs didn't have many winners on the day but those 2 sure were not 2 of them

No Dribble Dick, I wouldn't be surprised. I know that Souths certainly tightened the budget strings this year and as you'll on here, Saints apparently didn't pay their players (cough, cough). Not all players got a can of coke and a four and twenty.

As far as I know it didn't end up too bad, mainly due to the paid blokes p**sing off half way through the year. I know Purton doesn't get much of a wrap on here, but he stood up when the whole Oakley situation went down and I thought he deserved whatever it was he was on. There was 1 dud we payed though, however honestly don't believe we spent as much as some think. On the whole incentives based payment, it has been tried at Norths and the middle- lower range players ended up getting nothing...

Yeah gotta say I didnt rate purton alot, but I did see he was a leader there. Why did he piss off? Bit ordinary I thought, but then so was the player revolt that sacked your coach. I still rate norths a good hard competitor.

And Lachrilly, I kinda do think Mincho was in their best, not smith tho, and certainly not boxall!

And plugger, you are spot on mate!

Boxall kicked 5 and was the only person keeping them in the game in my view. The Boxall-Harth battle was one of the standout 1on1's for the day with Harth just getting the chocolates in a battle of the young guns of the comp.

Seemed an obselete contest to me. But if he kicked 5 then he won the battle hands down. Just think he didn't get enough pack ball, but then again neither did shaw! What do we think, will they come back strong next year coz they feel unfinished business? Or will they all piss off back south?

And how bad was kennedy's knee? total reco? Is walsh gonna keep going with his groin needing surgery? Will coatesworth coach again?

From what i hear they will all play next year. Kennedy is going to have the lars op which should get him back running after xmas. Walsh said he will go on after missing most of this year through injury but i suppose that depends on his surgery and i think Coatsworth will coach again, well i hope he does after hearing his 3/4 time speech it was possibly the most heartfelt address i have heard. Im sure the club would love him back

Well done to the Saints boys, to good on the day with all their players standing up which was the difference. Port had a few passengers, which you can't have but I hope they stay together and have another crack next year. Well done Hammo, would have been a tough decision to make, Couch did a great job stopping Shaw but it shows that it is not a backmans medal. Hallas and Powell were another 2 standouts and Coatsworth had plenty of it. Paid or not paid, Saints have been strong over a long period so whatever they are doing seems to work.

Hope the Tigers become a force soon, they are taking all the steps in the right direction. All the pain of the past seems to be gone, recruit a good bunch of blokes and the results will come.

can anyone tell me who got in south cairns team of the decade!!

How can you pick players for team of the decade if they only played 1 season for the club no matter how good that season was. Surely there were lesser players who gave years of service who should have been there

What a complete joke, players that played one year in the team of the decade, what was the criteria, the team is a laughing stock:D:D:D
