I noticed he didnt respond to that either, haha

I was only quoting from my source & it was a good one,it was happening at that stage , but looks like he hung on.

Rob as far as I know is taking a break this year & enjoying his young family. He may become assist coach under the incoming, but only he & the Penguin knows what his plans are.

But isnt that how it should be, rumours and speculation is meant for the big leagues not senior football in a place like Cairns. I know it's all bickering and banter but at the end of the day its Football. A good coach is all i wont, if you dont have a good coach hell that still doesnt worry me because at the end of the day i'm just worried about one thing... That red pill and the blokes around me playing. Isnt this what we're here for "To Share the Passion" it says it up there next to the BigFooty logo ;)

Plugg3r that would have to be the best comment I have seen on here all year. "To share the passion". And you're right, regardless of which club you're affiliated to, it's about sharing the passion.:thumbsu:

Hope Rob keeps his head up and is back coaching soon, hey Tamba I hear a few players are moving on next season, a few to Canberra and a few with sheepy down south.

From what I heard Rob was keen to go on but certain factions within the club didn't want him at the helm. From what I hear he has done a good job with the hand he has been dealt.

Yes, Cam Campbell & Danial Lock are heading to Canberra linking up with Ray (ex umpire here) at Belconnen for a season or two. I think Joineers is heading down South now his leg has healed. Training starts again shortly with the summer indoor comp, which I know you and all of us loved, LOL.

Hows the fishing going?? tight lines

Plugg3r couldn't you get a better profile pic? I know it's everybody to their own but please, please, please. I'd rather see a pic of Mark "Jacko" Jackson. :D

Hasnt that Cazaly's rumour being going around for a long while now?

Your right plugger, this rumour is around 18 months old if not longer. The fact is that it will eventuate. To have one of the best grounds around and to only have one game a fortnight played on it is beyond me. I believe a game should be played there every week and on the alternative week of the Hawks home game; a 'match of the round' could be played.

But then again it is getting quiet clearer now that the vision ahead for AFL Cairns is to have a team in the QAFL which will then be affiliated with the planned North Eastern Australian Football league (which I heard talked about 20 years ago) which will have side from NT (Thunder) Brisbane, NSW & ACT all competing. That’s my thoughts so will have to wait and see on that one.

While on new leagues, I see that the AFL is very close to signing a deal with FOX sports to televise the proposed new FA cup style comp where the top two sides from the WAFL, SANFL, VFL, QAFL, NSWAFL etc will play each other. It may be based on the old Escort cup comp from the 80's but with relegations. One game a week is proposed. So if AFLCairns do enter a team in the QAFL then they may (if good enough and finish top two from previous year) be eligible to compete in this new proposed concept in future years if this becomes successful.

We will just have to watch this space and see what comes of the above…

I understand where you're coming from Bing, and it is a beautiful ground.
I just dont see how a commitee like AFLCairns can see fit to talk about removing a club from a ground though they've played there for years. Like you said we will just have to wait and see.

Was originally home ground to Souths Balaclava (now South Cairns Cutters) until they were then shunted over to Griffiths Oval (now home to Saints). Just a natural progression Plugg3r. Although bigger, the same thing happened in the WAFL. The inner city clubs were pushed out into the burbs. It's all about taking the game to the people. There are three rugby league clubs on the south side of Cairns (excluding Innisfail and Tully). It makes good sense to have the Hawks go to Gordonvale and amalgamate with Pyramid. The ground would certainly need better facilities but I'm sure the League would have enough cash.

Secondly, I'll admit that Warwick Capper was good in his "heyday". But he's still a goose.:p

Heard same rumour today as well, also that Hawks might not be welcome at Cazaly's next year and may have to relocate to the new Gordonvale ground??

If & when it happens how many Hawks fellows will go to training out there, it is hard enough getting numbers now to training but to go an extra 20 minutes down the road,

well  ????

I wish them the best of luck with this problem looming :footy:

though we needed another team to take away the bye & expand, that's where Pyramid came in for the future, not to be taken over as will probably happen and the two amalgamate.

Pyramid people will not be impressed as the have worked hard in their corner to get where they are and I expect will not go down without a fight

I agree that there should be a game every week there but i dont think clubs would give up the revenue they get from their home games to do it. Maybe having a second club locate to the ground might solve that. Im sure clubs would love the chance to play at cazalys more often

I think it would be very ordinary if there wasn't a club based at the best ground, and the centre of the comp. Why? I don't care which team it is, but there has to be a club based there. Is it because they think the ground is too good for a local club to be based? It gets far too much traffic during the week. The junior comps etc should be played around all of the grounds. Maybe the under 16's could play before the senior teams? I know the under 18's cant as many play seniors as well, but the 16's could do it? And the under 14's down play a Sunday comp at all grounds like they did when we were kids. Just an idea.

We tried that a few seasons ago and I along with others did the umpiring to rest the normal ones, so it wouldn't be a long long day (after we did a course of course & qualified ) and it got a pretty Luke warm reception as a lot of the 16's were either working Sat. morning or playing in Resies, as well many were reluctant so it did not last long only 2 or 3 seasons.

Its a tough one. Personally, I think it is a massive advantage to the Hawks to be able to play on that ground every 2nd week, while other teams might play there once or twice a year. Cazaly's is a different ground to any other up here and when it comes to finals time, it has to be a plus to have experience playing all year at that ground.(Granted hawks didn't use it that well this year). On the other side I cannot see clubs willing to play home games there and give up club revenue for the sake of playing in a 'match of the round'. Will be interesting to see the outcome, I'm told a decision will be made before next season...

Hey garden knome, Ray seems to of recruited well out of the Cairns league, a few from Port Douglas as well I heard.

It's a hard one alright and I'm glad I'm not the one making the decision. I'm not from Melbourne so I'm unaware how it works down there. But I hear what your saying, this is how most clubs survive. Gate takings, canteen and beer sales can't be scoffed at and if wasn't for these most clubs would be forced to close the door if they didn't have sponsors to back them up. In saying that, there would be nothing to stop a club from opening up the canteen at Cazalys and taking the gate. Only if the Home and Away series was shared equally.

This is only a thought and I'm happy to hear what others think.
