GF, I do not understand your comment about dropping reserves players back to third grade outside of AFL Canberra rules. I assume you are talking about the movement of reserves players back to thirds this weekend due to the bye in 1s and 2s?? Can you give me examples of this happening earlier this season???

Codola

The comment was aimed more at Tuggies and Ainslie reserve graders not getting much game time helping out their thirds who are struggling for numbers, rather than Belconnen who seem to have a million players looking for a game each week

Just for the record GF.. Tuggies get permission from the ACTAFL and the club we are playing against to give some ressies a run

Div 3:
Jets
ANU
ADFA
Harman
Belco

Div4:
Jets
ANU
Belco
Goulb
Hogs

Good luck to Belco and Yass as the dominant teams for the season in each grade respectively. Respect to all teams in the comp this year, even those who are struggling, for making it a fascinating season. Looking forward to a great finals series.

Hey Bookie
If Tuggers are getting Reserve Grade players each week, how come they are not scoring a few wins?? Are they getting close?? And if there are that many players for Reserve Grade why are Div 3 struggling for numbers?? Is it just an attitude thing?

I know it is early days but how are teams looking for next year, is everybody likely to go round again and we have the same comp?

Only when the ressies have a bye do some players (3-4) go back, only if they want to. We only have 10-12 regular 3rd grade players playing, the rest are found on friday nights. More needs to be done from the rest of the club to support the 3rd's otherwise its a joke having them in the league getting thumped by over 100 points each week.

Is the Div 3 team going to survive next year and has the Club resolved it's financial position to survive another year??

Not sure whats happening next year, as far as I know the financial situation is sorted, or on its way to being sorted. Also dont know whats happening with the 3's beyond this year, guess it depends on how many players stay and go and how many come back from there interstate visits.

Morning footy people, there is a rumour doing the rounds that ANU are set to drop players back from threes to fours due to the threes playing ainslie and the rusult not having any meaning as the threes want make finals no matter the %.If this proves to be correct it could provide yass with a solid hit out and only aid in the lead up to the finals. It would be a little embarrasing if they do this and yass win anyway .Also should they beat yass what would it prove. Before you miss believers get hold yes i am involved with yass and yes i was told this directly by a uni stundent.Let the games begin

Southcab,
That wouldn't make sense to drop players back. If Uni intend on dropping players back I'm sure it would only be fringe players or maybe returning from injury. Surely this close to finals and with only the 3rds team with any sort of chance of making the finals. The extra percentage is always handy if it came down to it and team structure etc can only benifit from another week of an unchanged line up.
In any case it would only benifit Yass now as a contest this close to finals if Uni were stronger on the park.

BARTY all you say is true yass uni are always good yass cost anu the minor preimership last year so i guess there could be a thought that uni may lower the colours of yass this year.I know yass need the hitout having not played for three weeks and true to his word the coach left out regular names due to commitment. In saying that it is a strong side taken the feild and there will no excuses the coach want be there due to personal reasons ,at training last night he spoke of what it would mean to him to continue on for each other and not worry about outside pressure and exspectation and i know the players want to do well for him.

... yass cost anu the minor preimership last year so i guess there could be a thought that uni may lower the colours of yass this year...

I think you'll find that Gungahlin probably cost ANU the minor premiership last year - Jets beat them twice during home-and-away.
And for that matter, Belco knocked Uni off in the final round to secure a spot in the finals (and deny Yass a spot, from memory).

That said, I think your comments about ANU wantng to knock Yass off this week are spot on. This time of year, the teams not likely to make the finals are in it for pride alone.
How many times in all grades of footy across the nation has a top side been knocked off by a non-contender late in the season?
Definite danger game for Yass this week.

However, I'm not sure ANU will drop players back from 3's. They are still a chance to make the four but will need to have a big win against Ainslie to boost their percentage by as much as possible (and beat Murrumbidgee and ADFA in rounds 17 and 18....)

Tips for this weekend:
Div 3.
ANU
Gungahlin
ADFA
Harman
Belconnen

Div 4.
ANU
Gungahlin
Harman
Belconnen
Goulburn

Hey Shanefos,

This week by no means will be an easy week for the Yass Roos but in saying that Yass has proved this year that they are the team to beat, having gone undefeated so far every team wants to knock the team off on top whether they are a chance at the finals or not.
i think Yass will come out and play the natural game of footy that they have done all year, if they are successfull in doing so i dont think ANU have what it takes to match them.
as far as dropping players back i think it will work in Yass' favour as the regular div 4 players may not know how to play the style of footy that the incoming 3's would play.

i think yass by 6 goals

The Uni coach is a very smart man and I don't think he will gamble his slim finals chances in 3s by stacking a 4s team in a so-called "grudge" match against Yass. He would rather spend his time giving his 3s side every possible opportunity to play their best football in the next 3 weeks to try and sneak into the top 4. In my opinion ANU have been the best finals team in the comp over the past few years. They beat Belconnen twice when they probably should not have, and they gave a very good Jets side (one of the strongest CD teams in recent memory) a run for their money in the two most recent GFs at Manuka.

Good theory though, makes for good banter on this forum:) Anyone else have any ideas/theories/gossip???

GF - thanks for clearing up the Tuggers/Ainslie ressies stuff - I didnt realise it happened;) Do the players that they (Ainlsie/Tuggers) drop down have much ability? If they are "fringe" players in 2s I would assume they would not trouble the better teams in the 3s comp anyway??
There are good players in the 3s comp that would fit comfortably into a ressies side. Same with the 4s - not that I have seem them play this year, but teams like Goulburn and Yass would probably have 1 or 2 players that could slot into a 2s side in the ACTAFL.:thumbsu:

Leeroy why are yass so good this year? what has changed since last season? i mean they didnt make the finals last year now you guys are probably to good for 4's.

codola.Funny you should mention that three of the yass players have been spoken to by actafl clubs in regards to next year.I beleive we may see one at eastlake and two others at another club .

Hey Speed racer,
Yass was a club that started about 8 years ago with very few of the players ever playing AFL over time like anything if you stick with it you can only get better on an individual and also team basis if your lucky enough to keep the core players around, yass to date has been able to do that. like every club though we have had players come and go.
last year yass was very unlucky not to make the finals but due to poor disipline we didnt make it,
the difference between this year and last year is we are winning the games that last year we lost and every one at yass want to play football.
i spose to answer your question yass has made 2 simple changes to the way we play the game and it seems to be working.:D

Afternoon All,

Judging by the Yass side for the weekend that has been posted on the webiste Leeroy, it still looks like a very strong side. Either those players that the coach was looking at dropping didn't get dropped or there's some pretty impressive depth there - a scary proposition for the other 4th grade sides. Yass/ANU should still be a cracker though and I look forward to the outcome.

Good luck to all sides over the weekend in both Div 3 and 4.

hey Pie 25,

yeah mate the depth in the yass side is very good this year. but your right i think this game like any other is a test for both sides character,
ANU will be coming out with nothing to lose and a fair bit to gain.
im sure yass can counter that but time will tell.:thumbsu:

Just for the record yass go into the anu match minus anderson, dawes ,smith, waters, french, and late withdrawel lucky all these players would be automatic picks in the top side when you look at this yes yass are strong and yes the coach stuck to his word.

Gungahlin over Bidgee by six points in the thirds and by more than 10 goals in the 4ths. It was a cracker of a game in the 3rds, i think the best team on the day did win though, with 6 extra scoring shots. Innacuracy in front of goals could have been Jets downfull with Bidgee finishing hard. The game was played in good spirits with both teams desperate for a win. I think that's Jets 2nd on the Ladder in both grades now? Hilly, what do you think the average age of both teams was down in your forward line / Jets backline?:)
