Any team fighting for 5th place would have to be pissed off. I thought the way they are doing the ladder this year was to not disadvantage or give advantage to any team that had 2 byes over the teams that got 1 this year. Technically speaking ADFA will get 3 byes which helps them stay in the hunt for finals

Obviously if that's what happens we won't be real thrilled about it but what can we do? If afl canberra tick off on it then we just have to deal. If we can win our last two then hopefully none of it will matter. Although I would need some one who is better at maths than I to confirm this.

Yeah mate, you win both your in, you win 1 and they win 1 your in, if they win both and you win 1 you guys miss out by roughly 1%. Actually mate I've just had a great idea, win the first game against Goulburn and then for whatever reason cooma and belco will have to postpone our game and then we'll just count it as a non result, bang belco makes the finals!

Good idea Jectz, surely though Goulburn wouldn't want to lose or can ANU not catch them? It's not cheating as a finals team I wouldn't want ADFA there. I remember when we played juniors Eastlake who were on the same points as us beat Marist in a game they should never have won and we missed out on finals by .01%

So it has happened before :) good luck to all this week!

I am making a couple of assumptions here, these being:

  1. ADFA are not going to play the two makeup games they rescheduled; and
  2. The league treats these as a non event and therefore both teams have one less game played

Assuming that is the case and the most likely scenario good or bad. Both teams ADFA and Belco have two games to play, however at the end of the home and away season Belco will have played 17 games whereas ADFA will only have played 15.

If my math’s is correct (and trust me it's not that great either) if Belco can win one of their next two games they will end up with a win percentage of 64.71%.

If ADFA also win one of their next two games they will end up with a win percentage of 60% and therefore Belco are in.

It is a no brainer that ADFA will beat Harman this weekend so provided Belco can win one of their next two games, ADFA would need to beat ANU in their last game to make the finals. Obviously if Belco win both their games then ADFA’s last game against ANU will be a non event, in terms of them getting into the finals.

goulburn won't throw a game , but Cooma v belco last round could be the answer. Cooma let belco win and they will be safe. Cooma can't go any higher or lower by dropping a game. Keeps adfa out which is good for all concerned

Not sure of any team that would intentionally go out and plan to throw a game just because they didn't want another team to play finals, regardless of whether they deserved to be there or not. They may chose not to field their stongest side but I don't no of any player that would take the field and deliberatley plan on losing.

Unless they play for Melbourne :) it was just a wild scenario I was throwing out there.

Its possible for uni to grab first but if they can win 2 games to Goulburns 0 + make up 75 odd percentage points in 2 games they definitely deserve it

Well Goulburn lost to Belco today, must have been interesting at selection table this week to decide how many players they would drop down, my count was 4 or 5. Goulburn had a fair few missing though.

ANU got over Ainslie by 99 points in the end. The first half was fairly tight but ANU turned it on in the last half to win by 99 points, kicking 9 goals in the last quarter alone. Ainslie certainly made ANU work for it in the first half. I thought they were a much better side than what the current ladder and the scoreboard suggests though.

I'm guessing that ADFA don't know that percentage isn't going to be a factor in making the finals

Hey Jectz, big game today for you blokes, a win will see you make the finals for the first time since 1994. could be a must win game with you blokes playing belco next week and by the looks of it they gonna start stacking teams to make sure of finals. Good luck today, hope you kick a bag full

Also was out at the belco game yesterday, is there any truth to the talk out there that the AFL Canberra are leaning towards Kippax over Phillip for the final series ?? Wouldn't blame them going to Kippax as the facilities are fantastic and would be the best venue to host the finals this year, not sure if the smaller ground would suit every team but.
Do you think that the smaller ground for the finals could give some teams an advantage that they wouldn't have at the bigger ground of Phillip ????

I dont think anyone has ever discussed stacking teams before. Definitely an awesome discussion point.

I hope you are not suggesting that BMFC are stacking their 3s side? If you are making such a stupid claim I would encourage you to do a bit of homework. I am involved with the selection of players at Belco, and unlike one team clubs there is a bit more to do than just pick one team from a list of available players. Our job is made a bit harder again to meet the demands of the division 1 selections at BMFC. So just for you Jumpin Jac I will provide you with a bit of info into how it all works.

Firstly, we (the 2s) have to accommodate any players not selected for the 1s team for the weekend (this varies from about 5-6 at the start of the season to none as injuries etc take their toll throughout the year) and in some cases (like earlier this year when the 1s had a number of injuries) we supply players up to the 1s team.

Secondly, the 2s side is picked. We apply a set of selection rules/criteria like any other club. Form, match ups, attendance at training, injury concerns etc.
This week the 2s side had two inclusion from the week before. one was a guy that normally plays 1s (Mitch Mooney) and the other was 2s coach (Tom Fisher)
That means we had to drop two payers from the previous week - Nathan Blackburn and Marco Basaglia. (All this info is readily available on seeyouatthefooty website. We had played Gungahlin the previous week and fielded one of our strongest teams for the year (Jets beat us first time around) to beat the Jets at Kippax by 90 odd points. It was difficult to have to drop those two guys but one had been unable to train all week and the other had an injury concern.

Lastly, the 3s side is picked from the remaining squad members, again using the same selection principles I named above.

How this is stacking a side is beyond me. At least now you can appreciate how clubs with multiple teams select teams each week.

We didn't think there was a drama with any "dropped" players, we had 8 players away that will come straight in for this weeks game against Coota and Belco are too good of a team to be under strength against. Big games this week!

Finally got a final game on a Saturday. Maybe the "draw" isn't so bad...
