AFL Canberra Season 2015

Well you've just shown yourself to be a real tosser straight up. First you say how clubs should make the jump up the divisions and then you have a swipe at the only club that has the guts to actually do exactly what you are suggesting the other clubs do.

Yeah your probably right but if every bloke liked every club in AFL Canberra it would be awfully plain. The point I made was in terms of results and performance of the Gungahlin Second grade side against the Ainslie Third grade side in 2015. I'm not sure how much of a jump that individual fixture actually was for your club.... Anywho I'll cop the tosser tag and look forward to the improvements Gungahlin are making because it will be fantastic for the competition as a whole.

Spot on mate.

How are Harman sorry Googong gunna get enough numbers to field 2 teams when they struggled to fill 1 last year ??o_O
Or will we get to the 11th hour again and they decide they gunna just stack a side in the lower div?
Or will numbers coming down from NEAFL fill up some of the lower grades?

Gunna be interesting seeing how some a the princess's in div 3 like having to travel to the boon docks. Are the "rooms" at Coota really up to the standard? :D

Nothing wrong with the coota change rooms. Cooma and goulburn facilities much worse. And if goulburn somehow got away with playing at kenmore with those facilities then anything would be fine. Even the old tents at yass before the new rooms were built were better than kenmore

Open invitation to come to a swans game this year and find we aren't that bad. Even shout a six pack.

Was only talking about the facilities , im sure even you would agree with me on that one. Kennore in particular, the new venue is much better
Agree terrible facilities at Kenmore. The new ground is much better. Cootas facilities are good. The ground not so much.
Are the rumours I'm hearing true about Yass going to Div 4? I thought Yass and Goulburn had no choice. Are Goulburn still going up Nov? Anyone from Coota able to tell us how things are shaping up as they make the move. Plenty of early transfers mostly heading to Woden by the looks of it

Yep and the boys can't wait to get out there and give it a crack. Might be a tough year on the field but it will be great to see the guys tested and improve over the year. Haven't heard anything about Yass but heard from the guys a draw isn't far away.

Has been an active off season at Coota with big numbers at pre-season. Got a practice match against Marrar Bombers planned in March. Three signings from Young who should compliment our young list. In negotiations with a couple more interstate fellas and a potential full-forward. Five guys have departed from from our grand final teams

Draft draw is up on the AFL Canberra site. Looks like it's confirmed that only Coota and Goulburn will make the step up. Any reason why Yass are staying? Lack of players or retirements? A few were quick to have a pot shot at other teams for not taking the step up but are very quiet when they don't themselves

Coota and Goulburn make the most sense from a results and geographical standing. These clubs were the best last year and the likelihood of forfeits occurring in third grade due to travel requirements is minimal compared to the fourth grade. Both clubs enjoy their home games for the footy but also for the revenue raised on these days. Giving them opposition who have 22 blokes every week is a smart and competitive move by Coota,Goulburn and the league. I think it's a win for most!

Im not really sure. But player numbers at yass are always low and a few more have retired but they always put up a competitive team. Are you a bit worried about playing against them drop punt :)

Not that at all. Just found it interesting that you had a crack at Goulburn about going up and then Yass was very quiet on here when they stayed. Cab the same with Harman. I don't know each and every clubs situation but I assume it must be player numbers as Yass have long been a top team in Div 4. Just picked the right year to go quiet I guess. I wouldn't like to think that most of the Canberra guys who left this year would return as I think if that was the case then Yass would also be more than competitive in 3rd grade.

Goulburn and Yass likely to go up I imagine despite their protests. My understanding from League HQ is that if they won't go up then they wont be registered in either grade. Basically the same ultimatum that ADFA and ANU copped before being shoved up a in 2014.

Apparently not. Are Yass on a downhill slide? Surely 2 GF's in 3 years was enough to go up a grade.

I don't say this being cheeky, would be great to hear from anyone that actually knows about their numbers at training and what's happening there this year.

It seems the decision from the league to leave Yass in division 4 is an unpopular one ! but it was just that a league decision. Some here at Yass were looking forward to the challenge of rebuilding a team in a higher division, others were not so keen. The committee at the end of the day just want to see the Roos survive . Fourth division is most likely the best place for Yass to be after a couple of outstanding and over achieving years Yass hit a wall last year .Player numbers were average we won 6 games all year and fielded a full compliment on 4 occasions. In fact there were as many training runs as wins last year . Sero who I believe done well at his second stint as a coach done it tough each and every Friday to ring around and get numbers to play. Some of you concerned keyboard warriors have asked what is happening out here this year and I thankyou for thinking of us ;)truth is Yass as of yet have not started training, know coach has been signed and we have had huge problems forming a committee mainly on the executive side. Some of the players are getting together tomorrow night to brush off some cobwebs and see how many are interested in taking out there weekly frustrations on a red oval shaped peace of leather each Saturday. At this stage I am aware of 16 young and old past and new participants .Yass is always a year to year proposition but I have great hope of this year being a fruitful one. Much will depend on what happens with the local league side the Magpies who re entered the group 8 and will have to field three sides being 18,s reserves and firsts ,so this will impact on some of the younger players from last years squad . So that's were we are upto at the moment. Good luck to everyone who is involved in footy this year.

Really? That doesn't bode well...If you can't scratch together 25-30 blokes for a trial a month out from the season that must be very concerning for the Jets...You'd think they'd need 60 blokes minimum to confidently field 1s and 2s and can't even scrape together half of that??

I hope they can find more players quickly or it'll be a very long year for the Jets...

Just spoke to a mate at ANU and they were told at training last night that Gungahlin requested a reschedule due to a lack of numbers...Second hand info I know but don't see why they would make that up...

Just to be clear for anyone associated with Gungahlin, I'm not taking the p!ss...I'm actually deeply concerned for their future if their numbers are this poor...AFL Canberra need a strong and healthy Northern presence but it seems the Jets are really struggling to rebound from some poor decision making and in fighting over the last 5-6 years.

All the best to the Jets, they've still got some good lads out there.
