You guys did shoot yourselves in the foot abit when you left Southern Cross Club to goto Tuggers Valley Rugby Clubs....What did you guys think that they would provide you with the love they do for their Rugby?? You guys were dreamin!

Yeah, that was a bit of a balls-up but Tuggers Rugby were providing more money than the Cross by a fairly significant amount so it was a hard one to knock back.

Things are very slow on this site at the moment. How about a discussion on who will finish in what position in all grades. My selections are

1st grade:

Belconnen
Swans
Eastlake
Ainslie
Queanbeyan
Wildcats
Tuggers

The above is selected on the following: Belconnen have lost very few players and have picked up some quality on ballers (Philips and Underwood) plus a number of TAC Cup players. Swans will be restricted but will be too strong at years end. Eastlake will continue to improve especially if they rape the Hawks - as is being suggested with a takeover or rescue package of the struggling Tuggers Club. Ainslie have picked up heaps including a quality onball player from South Aust and four players from Box Hill. Plus they have some young bloke from the Kangaroos and Beclo's triple premiership fullback. They have just signed a new GM from mid Vic who will bring others to the Club. Tigers played well above what they are worth last year and are reported to be struggling with numbers at training at the moment. Plus they have long term injuries again !!!!

Reserves: Neither of the Grand Finalists from 2007 (Tuggers or Qnbo) will appear in the GF in 2008. My predication is Belconnen followed by Eastlake, Queanbeyan, Tuggers, Ainslie and the Creek.

Eastlake will win the Under 18's from Tuggers. Ainslie third with Marist fourth, Belco and Tigers equal fifth followed by the Creek.

Gobbers didnt play in all 3 GF's FIM. U should no this. I believe he only played in 1 of the victories. Kleppy played in 2002, Hazelman in 2003 and Gobbers in 2004. Before 04, Gobbers was gracing the paddock with his silky skills in the ressies.

Surely Beco U/18's will win the comp as well!!

Optimistic there FIM. Are you Parrot in disguise?

I think the real place Belconnen will improve will be in the 18's with John Harper getting on board as the coach. It will stand us in good stead for the out years - I still remember what he did with his young side back in the late 90s.

It might be a building year for the Senior's - we'll still be thereabouts come September and you never know what can happen with some momentum.

Have Tigers got any big losses/signings this year?

I agree, we can't really go backwards in the 18's. We can only improve. The under 16's Cats that have come up, have some very good players in it and after losing the GF last year they will all be keen to do well this year.

I do agree with Eastlake being the side to beat this year in the 18's. They had a good young side last year, and with the 16's winning the GF they should really only go up.

GAINS
Andrew Carey - Myrtelford
Kris Thompson - Werribee
Liam Wilkinson - Sahire Coast (SERAS Athlete of Year 2007)
John Elias - recovered from season long injury

LOSES
Brett Daniher - moving overseas

Thats all I know at this stage but all info is on our up to date web site

Thats a big call FIM dropping Tigers out of top four, considering they have only lost one player from last years 1st Grade GF team - so far.

a former qbn 1st grade player has been training at belconnen this pre-season and looks like a very good player. although not from last years team, a couple of years ago i think

Your right. But he hasnt played for at least four years due to injury and in that year played only 3 games.

Andrew Carey was a quality player in the OM and should be a great pick up for the tigers.

ABH, can you confirm whether Chris Haddock has signed for this year, I know he was talking to at least one club about moving on...wasn't too happy about finishing the season in the 2's ??

yeah he has been out for a couple of years!
DJ Walker, he is a good guy, used to play west canberra magpies juniors before he moved down south

I have heard that DJ is a quality person and a very good footballer - at training. Apparently, as soon as the contact works starts his body turns into china; this is no reflection on his determination or ability; his body just can't handle the contact. Good luck to him though.... it can't be easy leaving the Tigers for the Magpies or vice versa for that matter!

Tensions and dramas for the Tigers in the last couple of weeks.... or so I am lead to believe...
There has been reports that several of last years so called "fringe" players have lost patience and decided to move on to clubs making big promises about 1st grade selections and better $$. Rumour has it that one of these players was a last minute selection in the ACT side that defeated the Sydney League team last year and he dominated. Several other issues with the Tigers include their co-captains both missing pre season due to injuries, only half of the Jaques pair seems to get to training and he rarely trains with the main group, new recruit Carey looks proppy and hasn't trained with the main group to date. Word from the O&M says that he has just had a joint operation!! And I witnessed one of their GF players go down quite heavily at training last week and hasn't been sighted since; numbers at training are looking significantly lower than other teams for this time of year with more than 2/3 of the training group made up from under age and reserve players.

News from other clubs that I have noticed is that Weston Creek have recruited reasonably well and look to finally win a game this season - they are looking sharp on the track anyway!! Tuggers have lost the plot altogether and the ones that turn up to training are having a hard time understanding the coaching instructions / techniques from the ex Magpie. Ainslie have recruited almost a new team and if they can manage to get along with each other could be a smokey this year - the big hurdle will be whether the management will let the coaching staff coach and the players play. Eastlake have some very handy recruits and if they can change their game plan to suit their recruits will be contenders for the flag. Belconnen are always strong and manage to get along with each other although I have heard a rumour that not all are happy with the new Reserves coach - not that this will prevent them from contending for the flag again. Thw Swans are gone!!!! You've heard it right here folks... they will start strong and fit but the senior team has relied too heavily on older players and when they break down the Reserves will falter - semi finalists at best!!

None of this is confirmed but it certainly makes for interesting conversation, especially if it cannot be categorically denied eh ABH?

Well don't leave us guessing 007 - who are the fringe players walking into other Clubs? Certainly haven't heard of many players leaving the Tigers in the past... DJ Walker is probably the first i've ever heard of, and i dont think he's even signed a contract has he? BeerDawgs can you shed any light on that? Or 3rd grade maggy?
In terms of players leaving - give us some names!!!! & which Club(s) is offering the coin & promises of playing 1st grade? It'd have to be the creek? No other club could make a fringe Tigers's player a promise to play 1st grade with their current lists (& new recurits), surely. And Tuggers dont have enough coin at the moment to buy a newspaper.

Me thinks 007 is just stirring the pot a bit. A number of Tigers are recovering from off season surgery including Carey. Others are there abouts and most of the players will be in full swing come 1 February. Haddo is a contracted player of the Club and will be going no where just like the other big bloke mentioned !

Very few players leave the Tigers for other Canberra Clubs. DJ Walker met with club officials this week - lets wait and see the outcome.

Whats happening with Bill Neely...staying, going !? Was told from a pretty good source that he was looking to head back to Adelaide or S.A for family reasons, has that changed.

True, not many players have left the tigers lair for other local teams in previous seasons - certainly none that the Tigers group wanted to keep anyway. I have heard some rumours that the new batch of Tiger cubs aren't as loyal as ther predecessors and I guess you could say that I never let the truth get in the way of a good story but there is also a lot of factual information in my previous posts and I think I have left enough clues for the forum to determine the rest.

The late mail is that a certain premiership player from last year is looking for a reason to pull on the boots again!!

Didn't you ask the same questions almost 12 months ago? Who cares where Neely goes? Sure he's a great player but he has no loyalty and opposition teams in this League are starting to work him out so it's most likely that he will move on!

Yeah i did ask that 12 months ago but i think this yr it was more concrete that he was moving on.
But as it was pretty quiet on these threads and no mention of him and where he was playing in 08 on other related sa footy threads i just assumed that he was staying at Ainslie.
You speak to former teammates & friends of his at Glenelg and the common denominator is sure a top bloke to be around with but when it came to football he was/is a mercenary when it came to coin !! I maybe wrong but if your as good as footballer as he is you have every right to name your price, it's only when you play one against the other that you start to lose a bit of respect...
Geez i could name one definate here that did that and he's certainly lost alot of respect around the region !!

i cant confirm, but he has been training with us since the 1st day we started in november and was at training on monday night, he is a very good bloke and has got pretty good skills from what ive seen so far!

Unfounded and untrue....You obviously have not been talking to the said player in a while?? My mail is that he has not missed being away from footy at all!
