Maybe if you were half as good as Halla, you may have been offered the sort money he got payed or in his case could ask for what he got paid....I think he'd be pretty comfortable with his career... 16 years of senior footy for 11 GF's and 7 premierships....How did yours go??

plus halla is one of the best blokes ever.

Couple of interesting things I have heard this week from reliable sources which I was wondering if anyone could confirm or say is BS.

Horney isn't getting paid out Tuggers to coach. I assume if its true he is aware of it??

Eastlake are backing youth this year??

For me the Horney one is probable. Tuggers have no cash and no clubs are looking for a coach so Horney may as well "cut his teeth" for free and gather great experience before they fold. (just my opinion as I cant see how they will survive. The WC/Tuggers should have gone ahead!)

The Eastlake one I believe to be BS as they always spend big! However there is never anyone on this site from those guys to keep us in the loop. Me thinks Mr Miller and Co are sneaky buggers. You can't trust a Collingwood fan!!

Just on the junior side of things, i've heard that the Weston Ck junior club has been talking to Eastlake about a affiliation, i think it's a great idea. It at least gives them someone to support and play for in the future.

Any trial games on this weekend in Canberra? I think I read in another forum that Qbn are travelling to take Mangoplah... Original / ABH, is this correct? If so how strong is the team that's travelling and will the football community finally get to see the "GUN" recruit Andrew Carey?
On a separate matter; was watching my kid play in the school footy comp. at MDO on Wednesday night, I decided to stay for a while and watch the Tigers senior team train. Things looked reasonably sharp at the drill in front of me until Armstrong went down with a knee injury and limped from the field. Could this spell the end of his illustrious career? Looked pretty serious from where I was sitting!!!

Belconnen is playing the swans at SCG on Sunday before the Sydney v PA game, Eastlake is playing St George?? at Greenway on Saturday and Tugg is playing a team from Syd at Ainslie on Sat.

Have seen Andrew Carey play a few games in the O&M and he should fit in well with the tiges...quality footballer

Understand Armstrong is ok but may not play this week.Think the Tigers are missing a few due to work etc for the trip to Mango. to tackle the Goannas...now there's a name. Pity the Tuggers/WC thing didn't go ahead they could have used that name.

Carey is a non starter this week but will be fit for the first round clash against the Swans. Tiges have a few missing this weekend. The two proposed matches will now be played over 6 periods. They will be missing the Jaques boys, Powelly, Franchi, Lieshkie and Balding (against their old club) and Kavanagh to name a few. Word just received is that Merv has been cleared of any serious injury and should be right by first round.

The Tigers will be a bit short of match practice won't they Original? They haven't managed to get anywhere near their preferred run on team on the paddock at the same time thus far:(.
Haven't they only played two games including this weekend? Match fitness could be a big issue against the Swans next weekend...

Who are the assistant coaches and lower grade coaches this year? Could it be that you are in fact the Reserve Grade Coach:eek: and part time cabbie?

"Could be a very interesting GF if the Tigers are good enough to struggle through again" quote Doubleoh7.

If struggling means defeating Eastlake by 11 goals in the First semi and Belconnen by 11 goals in the Prelimeinary final - as they did last year - then bring it on !!!

Well said Original. Cant believe the comment about QUEANBEYAN struggling into a grand final last year. Both Eastlake and Belconnen were given an absolutely hiding during the finals series.

What a great "fu--king idea. Quote "It at least gives them someone to support and play for in the future".
Tell me something youdogs - Eastlake have their own Junior Club (200 plus regos), a Junior club in Caldwell with 200 rego's, have tired up Marist Junior F.C (200 regos'), would have St Eddies College as well if Qnbo didnt do some work there (and the Demons still get the best ones) and now they want Wildcats. Were the fu-ck are all these players going to play IN THE FUTURE !!!!!!!! ? Seems Miller and co and becoming very greedy. Perhaps they have nothing better to do with all their staff than to come up with ideas to grab everything that moves !!!! The future of Canberra footy is save in their hands ! NOT !!!!

Hasnt helped them with the way they play their footy. I agree it is pointless recruiting all areas and then having no where for them to play. What about zoning the colleges and schools evenly between the clubs and then make sure that all clubs promote the schools correctly

Plenty of district clubs would love to approach the 2nd and third tier players from these U18's sides, but have all been told that you can't speak to Marist players etc until after they have left school....

Exactly - no one can touch them because of the Eastlake sponsorship. By then all the good kids have been signed (by the Demons) and the lesser lights are left wondering. Bit like the AFL draft - most are left hoping and wondering until selection takes place and then if not selected are left up in the air and most dont play or if they do they are fu-cked from the experience.

haha nah mate not mr cook.. just a follower of the tri's.. drivin cars at 4am not my thing.. assistant coaches are brent heaver, tim chandler, hot dogs (dont know he's real name, bourkeys mate from eastlake;), trev treloar 3rds and scholesy u'18's

The number of guys lost to footy from age 18-24 due to poor management of senior clubs is amazing. The young fellas have no idea that there are clubs that train one or two nights a week and offer footy for guys who can't give the full 3 nights commitment, or just want to keep playing for fun (and not money as previously harped on).

District footy should allow kids going to uni the chance to work part time, train min one night a week and get a game. Instead Eastlake spits them out, leaves them disillusioned and they are lost to footy for a while....

Some come back in their mid 20's once they have finished Uni and are working, but many are lost to the game permanently. Its a shame really.

Yep - and its about time students at Marist and their parents realised whats happening. Know Belco tried to obtain a few catholic kids a few years ago and were told well and truley to "pee" off due to Demons sponsorship of Marist.

Not sure I agree with this 100%. Alot of the guys in this age group are lost because of a number of reasons. Some believe they are better than they actually are and feel they should be playing regular 1st grade and spit the dummy when not selected. Others believe they cant combine playing footy, chasing skirt and drinking grog. The unfortunate thing in ACT is that their are numerous sports to choose from and players are able to chop and change from sport to sport until they find one that suits their agendas.

ABH

I played in Premiership sides which had a group of 22-24 year olds who had played with Marist U18's, were not interested in 3 nights a week and gave footy away until they were coaxed back in at 22/24. Half of them are still playing now approaching 30, the other half are somewhere in Europe/Canada/wherever else they end up.

Unfortunately, the next generation who are 5 years younger seem to be lost to footy. There are 100 other things to do, and these young blokes don't seem that keen.

The Jets side that won the CD's Premiership last year would have averaged 30, Harman would be similar, Woden 32 or so. ANU would be late twenties (Joel O'Brien brings the age up by 5 years! :)).

The only young clubs were Tuggeranong (it was a U18's and leftovers team) and ADFA.

So where are all the kids who were born in 84-87 playing, if they are not in Seniors? I fear they are gone and amateur sport is dying a slow death due to cost and aging player groups...
