True... but how many footballers playing for Ainslie on the weekend played junior football for the club? I think you will see at the other Canberra Clubs over the weekend that they are not just playing the 1-3 under 18 players but the 'senior' players of the club are predominantly juniors who have played their way up or gained experience elsewhere and then returned; this mixed with a solid group of 'gun' recruits (generally 3-5) is what makes the team successful. This in turn makes the competition strong and successful becasue the Canberra juniors are generally prepared to stay and play in Canberra and the recruits tend to hang around for the long term because of the comraderie of the playing group... unless they are mercenaries.:(
Tuggers are a classic example of a club with junior talent to burn but an inability to attract gun recruits due to financial restrictions; becasue of the strong bond of the junior players who have come thru the ranks together, they will be strong without being polished. Belco, Tigers and Eastlake have a very even balance of junior players and gun recruits; this gives them the polish that Tuggers lacks and the solidity that is perceived to be lacking at Ainslie... Although you would'nt know it from the weekends game:D.

Here we go. Ainslie wins one game and you are on their case. Two years ago we had 30 players walk out on the club. At preseason last year there were less than 10 players training. We have had to start from scratch and rebuild the club. Very few of last years recruits stayed on this year, as well as another half a dozen moving on. We were barely competitive last year, failing to beat any of the top 4 sides. The under 18's struggled and the reserves were made up of the districts side who were getting belted in that comp. What did you expect Ainslie to do, stick with the squad and keep playing juniors who were struggling in their own division?? We had to attract some new blood, and you are correct that there are not many AInslie juniors in last weeks team, they will still have opportunities throughout the course of the season. Why can't you just aknowledge that the club has done well to at least be competitive this year instead of constantly criticising them.

AFC

Maybe other clubs are scared. Lawless is gone, the footy dept has a bucket load of money again, and Ainslie could be a threat to the finals, and possibly even a premiership

And we can all hate them again, instead of feeling some sort of sympathy for thier plight (similar to how people feel about Carlton really) :p

Seems all is not happy at the nest in the north. Players very unhappy with the board decision to make them travel up to Sydney on the Friday night prior to the game. This means they have to return to Canberra on the Saturday night after the game, SPOILING their planned bonding session.

Seems like a sensible action from the board - a side that got belted and couldn't hit the side of a barn by foot in round one really should be concentrating on the footy and not getting up on the piss. Still - some of the very unhappy campers may just be planning to 'miss' the team bus and have to get their own way up and back. Wheels coming off?

They obvioulsy have tooo much money. Most clubs go up and back in the one day if its mid afternoon curtain raiser match to the Swans senior team.

Well said. This comp will be so much better if Ainslie get their act together and become a threat to all other sides.

Can any of the Qbn boys shed any light on Mervs knee, he had it heavily strapped on Sunday and looked to be really struggling at times in the 2nd half. Mind you he still had his fair share of it....

Remember this bloke.. Quote from the Albury Border Mail today.

"TOWERING Yarrawonga premiership ruckman Josh Frawley plans to return to the Ovens and Murray club in the second-half of the season.

After a troubled 12 months with Ainslie, Frawley officially cut ties with the ACTAFL club yesterday and plans to spend the next two months working on his fitness in a bid to fight his way into the Pigeons’ line-up.

Frawley, 31, said yesterday he was bitterly disappointed with his time at Ainslie.

“I have had a few issues here and really didn’t enjoy it at all,” Frawley said.

“It all went downhill after I tore the cartilage in my hip three weeks after arriving last year.

“A lot of clubs are full of hot air, but Yarrawonga has been great to me and I’m looking forward to getting back and hopefully playing halfway through the season.
“I have a fair bit on at the moment with work and getting married, but I’m looking to get fit first and hopefully finish the year off well.”

I watched this gun recruit play on a number of occasions last year. He was clearly over rated and if he thinks working on his fitness is going to help become a better player he is badly mistaken. He lacks in a lot of areas as a ruckman. On a couple of occasions he even turned on his own team mates last year. Reminds me of Wes Fellowes who won a Copeland trophy at Collingwood. Not a lot ticking over above the shoulders.

Just read yesterdays Canberra Times. Big article on Nathan Buckley being a former Ainslie Junior. Get real. He played about half a season in in under 12's yet they determine he was an Ainslie Junior. Same with Eastlake. They claim Craig Bolten. Can anyone produce anything to say he played with Eastlake - answer NO NO NO !!! He played for Marist - thats it !!!! Like Qnbo, they claim that the founder of Australian Footy was born in their district - prove it and I bet they cant.

Begs the question. When can a club claim a player as their own ! Is it after they have played one game or 200. This could be a good debate.

Now whats happening in the real world of AFL Canberra. Who won between Ainslie and Eastlake and how did the mighty Magpies go against the Swans. I predict Ainslie by 5 goals and Magpies by 34 points.
Tomorrow is the big upset. Hawks by 13 points with Armstrong leaving the field injured with ongoing knee problems from last week.

Well done FIM you footy guru, so far this week you have 0 out of 2 and I bet you got 0 last week as well!! That would make you 0 out of 5. Keep tipping like this and Belco wont win a game!!
Hopefully your tips do keep going like this meaning Qbn will be 2 zip and Merv will be fine!

Qbn Tigers remain the only underfeated side in Canberra Football following a 30 point win against the Tuggeranong Hawks. In a game full of skill errors from both sides, the class of the Tigers finally broke the resistance of the gutsy Hawks. Qbn 15-10-100 Tuggers 9-18-72.
In soggy conditions due to rain during the ressies the final margin flatterred an error riddled Tigers who looked a far cry from the polished side of 7 days earlier. An ugly win beats a good loss anyday and the Tigers have 6 days to recover before taking on the Demons. One negative to come out of the match was a suspected broken thumb to "Gun" recruit Andrew Carey.
Big wins for the Tigers Supa 2's and U/18's in GF replays of 2007 against the Hawks. It looks like depth could be an issue for Horney if his senior side gets any injuries as his reserves side was thumped by 100+ by the reigning premiers.

Mate I travelled over to watch the tigers play the valley. I agree an ugly win is a plus but they were terrible. That is not the same side playing the style of football that took them to a grand final last year. If Tuggeranong had managed to kick straighter earlier the tigers would have been one win and one loss. They have a mountain of work to do.

Mate I was there as well and the game was about the worst I have seen in a long time, but when one team floods back and then tries to retain possession no matter what, including kicking backwards, it is always going to be boring. If belco had kicked straight the week before they wouldn't be 0-2. Goal kicking is just another skill component. It is strange that a side plays a certain way one week (v swans) and then totally differently the next. I wouldn't say the tigers were terrible but the amount of dropped marks made then vulnerable to the game plan Horney came up with again skill errors always make games seem worse.

Wasnt just the dropped marks. There was no run. They played stop/start footy. They didnt run the lines and challenge the opposition game plan by counter attack. They allowed Tuggers to dictate just like last year. The big advantage Tuggers have over Queanbeyan is pace, yesterday they ran harder and worked to create space for each other much better than the tigers. The biggest worry is Tuggers attacked the ball harder than the tigers and thats a fact. I barrack for the tigers and thought that they were terrible. Just being honest
