Please elaborate spoiler. whats the go with the trainer walking out over treatment by certain 'professional' parties?

In terms of the love / powell incident - i saw the whole thing and love instigated everything and powell was defending himself. Love got what he deserved (not the League's fault Love had the 2 weeks from last year) and so did Powell. Case closed. Ainlsie's got every right to appeal, but I don't know if they'll have much luck. Love was reported on two separate charges, where as Powell only got reported for one.

Who's everyone's pick for the flag? I reckon that Ainslie might be a chance, but reckon they'll need to stabilise to be given that chance. The loss of love might have more of a psychological affect on the playing group. I dont think Eastlake have the cattle, Swans are 50-50 and Belconnen are out in front, but looked shaky in the final few H & A matches. Could be anyones game, but keen to hear some thoughts...

Yeah spoiler ellaborate on the "professional parties", after 20 years of training it doesn't sound like the head trainer needs a break or wants a break to do something else with their life? I beleive the trainer in question might have been hinting at abreak for many seasons but dedication to the cause allowed us to keep her services probably longer then even she thought.
as for the original question i beleive its about players & culture but if you want to change it to volunteers then thats ok.

Just a bit of humour the Qbn olympics

OPENING CEREMONY
The Olympic Flame will be ignited by a petrol bomb thrown
by a local of QBN wearing the traditional flannelette shirt, Trakky Daks, and Ug boots.

THE EVENTS:

100 METRE SPRINT Competitors will start outside the Royal, and will have
to hold a VCR & a Microwave (one in each arm) and, on the sound of the starter's gun, a Police dog will be released from a cage 10 metres behind the athletes.

100 METRE HURDLES As above but with added obstacles, car bonnets, hedges,
garden beds, fences, walls etc.

HAMMER THROW Competitors in this event may choose the type of hammer they
wish to use (claw, sledge etc). The winner will be the one who can cause the most grievous bodily harm to ACT residents visiting Queanbeyan within the time allowed.

SHOOTING A strong challenge is expected from the men in this event. The
first target will be a moving Police vehicle. In the second round, competitors will aim at a Post Office Clerk, Bank Teller, Petrol station Console Operator or Video Store attendant.

BOXING Entry to the boxing will be restricted to husband and wife teams and
will take place on a Friday night. The husband will be given 15 glasses of Bourbon and Coke at the Royal, while the wife wearing bike pants, an old T-shirt, and thongs will be told not to make him any dinner when he gets home. To goad him further she will ask him to remove the old Torana transmission from the bath.

CYCLING TIME TRIALS The competitor will attend the Riverside Shopping Centre
where they will obtain a bicycle stolen from a Mummy's Boy (preferably from a Grammar College), they will then be pitted against the clock. Bonus points will be awarded for a helmet, which would have been procured at the time of getting the bike.

MEN'S 50KM WALK Unfortunately this is now cancelled, as organisers cannot
guarantee the safety of anyone walking the streets of Queanbeyan.

GYMNASTICS The Beam will be replaced by the strip of gutter along Monaro St
outside Walsh's Hotel. The event will commence at Closing time - we expect some rather difficult dismounts to be performed on this apparatus. The floor routine will be conducted in the padded cell of the Queanbeyan Watchhouse.

CLOSING CEREMONY Entertainment will include a bonfire made out of the
Queanbeyan primary school, accompanied by a local ACDC cover band. The Olympic Flame will be extinguished by the Queanbeyan Mayor by urinating from the base of the spire in a cascading effect. The stadium (to be constructed within the Morrisset St Carpark) will then be boarded up before local athletes break in to it and remove all the copper piping, electrical wiring and air conditioners.

Each club is going to be accused of having a poor culture becasue they didn't taste success - unless you are part of that club; all you can do is speculate. Which is what we have on this forum right now!!:( I can guarantee that the core groups from each club are just as protective and proud of their culture as the rest of the clubs. Each club has great rivalries built up against each other... historically for the Tigers it has probably been Ainslie and we always come up against them strongly. For Tuggers it is probably the Tigers as they always come up well against us and for Eastlake it's probably Belco becasue they match up well against each other. As much as I love to hate every other club in the league; I'm not really qualified to comment on their "character or culture" as they all seem to get on well from the outside looking in. From the inside looking out at Tigerland; I can say with a large degree of confidence that we have a strong culture and the players enjoy each others company enough to go out drinking with each other most weekends. There will always be "rumours" that someone is looking to move on at every club - usually it stems from chinese whispers and nothing else!! Good luck to those spreading whispers - it's what keeps this forum healthy with conversation. :D:thumbsu:

As for my tips on the flags - I might be a bit biased but I will take the Tigers in U18's and Reserves and possibly Belco to beat Ainslie in the Firsts.. Good luck to each team; shame we can't start tomorrow..

my suggestion for team of the year.

B Rogers Ghobiral
HB Clarke l.bennett
C j.Bennett o'dwyer
HF G.Underwood Kav Hughes
F Ainger Armstrong
FOL Currie Neely Matthews

INT Healy

left a few spots open for dicussion and due to the fact that my knowlege isn't red hot on other teams players. a couple of notes, i dont think taka or dickinson played enough to get a nod (looking at sporting pulse)

Wow A bit High, have you not read the thread from the last 6 months. no wodner the 3rd & 4th div boys started their own thread, beacause footy isn't always about money and prestige.
Maybe they would look to go back to tuggers because tigers have a sh*t culture right now and they dont want to be part of it. Maybe all the smoke being blown up M. Armstrings arse is just hurting the club and some of the players dont want to be part of that anymore.
Codola has mentioned it a few times and all you want to do is corner him on it, and try to use your "wit" to hammer him.

What sh*t culture?? Which players??

Instead of people coming on here and throwing accussations around how about backing it up with substance.

Culture at Qbn is not a problem. I talk to many new recruits that come to the club and ask them whats the main difference between Qbn and their previous club and all comment on the family nature of the club and how they are blown away by all the support people that give up their time to assist the club. Many players get together outside of football hours for various activities so not sure what your on about.

So if you have heard otherwise then what have you heard and who said it?? If what you say is fact then you wont get youself into any liable trouble now will you.

o.k. can Mr A Bit High or Mr Original confirm/deny that "gun" recruit Andrew Carey has signed for an ovens and murray team for next year. maybe a n albury team?

Haven't heard that as yet Wonky but as you know players leave football clubs every year for various reasons.

If he does leave then it would be dissapointing as I would suggest he was very well looked after by the club and didnt exactly pay them back consistantly enough for mine. Surely he owes the club more than a year of which he showed glimpses of his best but if its true he must have his reasons.

But to come on here and claim that Qbn have a sh*t culture and then name one player you heard was leaving doesnt exactly back up your original statement. I would suggest that most football clubs have the same or similar cultures. Players train and play, got out together and enjoy themselves at regular intervals and continue to do this during the off season....Do you know any different??

His move back to O & M is old news. Reported about 6 weeks ago in Albury paper. Apparently his missus is pregnant and wants to return to be closer to her family. Is that a culture problem or personal ?
Carey has signed with Albury Tigers for next year, it wa on the back page of The Border Mail yesterday sighting family reasons for his return. I would say that is more a personal issue that has to do a lot with his Mrs. Thats from what i understand from this end. In a way you can't blame her and him for this it's just a fact of life when you up and move town away from family and so forth. at some stage either you or her would want to return home

Agree ABH. I have many mates at QBN and they say the culture there is great, the community really get behind the team.

At least this time it's not Ainslie's apparent poor culture being criticised, that's some of you blokes did for a while there without any idea what was going on. I'm sure all clubs have a strong and proud culture, you need it in such a small comp where everyone knows everyone and you play each other 4 or 5 times a year.

Anyone know if that bookie is taking bets on the finals again this year? I want to get set on the Tricolours for this weekend, they are specials!! How many premiership players will the Swans trot out this weekend? Roberts-Thomson, Matthews, Ablett, others??

itktm,

Team of the year would just about be every member of the rep side I would reckon

I agree with ABH. The rep team was a fantastic group that appeared to work as a unit. Any additions or deletions from that group would have to have a pretty strong argument.
From the senior players like Armstrong and Neely, strength players like Dicko and Ghobs through to the youngsters Harris and Pettersson they were very solid. There may be some inclusions for players who missed Shep because of injury, but I do not know who you would drop ??

And what about coach of the year? Horne from Tuggeranong gets my vote. Anyone who can make a bunch of kids super competitive most weeks, and beat powerful clubs like Eastlake and Queanbeyan, against all the odds, deserves massive kudos!

Agree that Horny has done a great job but you cant possibly give coach of the year to a coach with 3 wins for the year. That would make it farsical....Sorry but no chance

just to let you know lads that i put my team of the year on the previous page. What about swans players? players like o'dywer, matthews, currie, brabazon, and maybe even davies and grundy must get a look in. They did come second!!

In the afl the premiership coach is automatically the all oz caoch. and seeing as belco look to take it out, i think mahar will get it.

Kieran Johnson was All Oz coach in 2006, when Tuggeranong finished 5th (of 8), so you don't have win the home-and-away to get the prize.

It's taken a while, but for your personal viewing pleasure I have just uploaded Round 18 Magpies v Swans.

Mulrooney Medal? Having watched about 35 of the Senior games this season, the players who struck me week-in-week-out, and are most visible in my memory, are Craig Healey and Griffin Underwood.

Cheers

But you surely cant have finished clear last:eek:

Ainslie have been the most improved and with the problems they had during the off season I think Rourke has to be very high in calculations.

He gets my vote for what its worth

The next big question is who will be the winners on the weekend.

Will it be Belconnen or The Swans?

Will it be Ainslie or Eastlake?

Will wait to see the teams on Friday particularly for Swans line up.

Good point ABH but i still think belconnen will be too good, even if Sydney name a better side than has been running around lately.

Although Ainslie seem to be just a bit off, and with Love suspended i still think they will be too strong for Eastlake in a thriller

AFC1,
Reading through the melb papers, looks like the swans will be resting a few of their stars for next week's finals so i doubt that the swans reserves team will be stronger.
sundays game will be interesting - haven't eastlake beaten ainslie two or three times this year?

jdjt - Yes my mistake, i realised they would only be weaker not stronger as soon as i posted my last comment, however i don't think they will rest anyone.

Ainslie and Eastlake are 2 wins a piece this year so game will be very interesting

Has anyone got tips for the first week of finals

i think Belco and the swans will be a close one with the maggies getting over the line
for the lakers and ainslie i think the demons can send ainslie packing for an early mad monday.

should be a top game though as mentioned before demons and ainslie are 2 a piece..

Good luck to all teams this weekend:thumbsu:
