If the Lions lose to the Tigers this week their 1st would be pick 12. Do you really think Davey would go that early?
Looks like it will be close to that range.

Wonder if Brisbane would consider trading Pick 12 (assuming they lose this weekend) for our Pick 22+40, they come out marginally ahead on points and we could potentially get another kid before a bid comes for Davey

Totally disagree Too many highly rated kids before him for that to happen

The point being that if we had pick 13, 12 is about the range where a club would feel comfortable bidding on him, knowing we would match but would also be content if we miraculously didn't.

I like the idea of another pick before the Davey pick.
Unfortunately every other team will be looking at that pick too and GCS and GWS will probably have better picks to play with. We also have a list manager who Farrks about too much with such matters (haggling to get a 4th rounder back) so it would be easier for them to deal with the other clubs

Stats can tell part of the tale. He hasnt shown to be a huge ball winner

I cant see myself picking over the big 4/5 unless he has a huge finish where he shows some more 30 disp games
How many midfield minutes did he play and what roles was he used in ?

Highly rated by who? Media draft experts? Last time I checked twomey had him at 13 as well.
No one knows where small forwards are truely placed on clubs boards, because most don’t need high possession games to impact and clubs like to project with them - Kozzie Pickett is a great example of this from a couple of years back.

I wonder if the club has a cut off point where they don’t match a bid for Davey? E.g. a club bids at 10

Highly, highly, highly doubtful due to the current construct of the rule.

For one, a discount is applied that means that a bid at pick 12 can be matched with points that are worth pick 17ish. For two, there is very little incentive not to, not matching at let’s say pick 12 doesn’t mean you have 12 as a live pick, you still don’t own it.

A highly, highly gameable system, if you’re smart you can get the player And then some for the same amount of outlay.

Let's just revisit this after the draft. I think you'll be way off.
NAB finals are only starting now anything can happen yet. My guess is 14 to 24.

Given the way the draft is shaped their aren't too many outside mid types in that top 30. Would suit a fair few of the finals teams. I think we've seen a few smaller outside forward/wing types bid on in that early-mid teens range too. Florent, Ling, Garlett, Galluici. Hopefully ends up a better player than them.

Not going to be too bent out of shape if we go another way but my two preferences are Tsatas or Phillipou .

What makes those players stand out in particular? Is it because they'd be the best at our pick, or that they best fill our needs?

Draft points question:

If our third round pick (for example) moves up a few spots due to someone else's picks being used up bidding on a player, do the points associated with our pick increase or are they fixed at whatever they were for the original position of our pick?

pretty sure the picks move and down based on bids and picks use to match ahead of them, and the points go with them

There are no points until the exact moment that a trade or bid match occurs, then they check the index and figure out that pick 73 is worth 9 points. So they're Schrodinger's points, I guess.

The example that sticks out to me is when Whitfield was caught not at home when he should've been (clubs have to know where they are every day in case ASADA wants to spot test them). Was hiding at the footy manager's house or something. GWS got a 1000 point penalty applied to their first round pick that year, but once the penalty had been applied it was technically like ~1040 points less than the pick they'd originally have.

The discrepancies are banked as a points surplus to be used for matching bids in future drafts if it's in the first round – in later rounds the next pick moves up accordingly (and then I guess any further discrepancies are also banked).

yep

i think the question was asking whether our 3rd rd (40) stays at the points for 40 when a Davey bid comes in, or are the points based on what it's worth at the time of the bid, be it 35 or 45.
pretty sure its the latter.

Well he won’t play finals due to Oakeligh doing a great choke job last week, will play for Vic Metro the week after the NAB League final though.
I was more commenting that a few others could rise or fall in the next 3 weeks.:)

The two bigger midfielders I like that will be top 10. They are different to what we have. I have no issues if we went Cadman or Sheezal or even Clarke. We have a few spots we can fill.
