Pretty rich when they just got access to Windhager and Owens. Doubt they complained about that
Fair point however he's not necessarily wrong though is he?
The system as it stands currently does not favour 'equalisation' in any way. It is a compromised system and needs to be changed.

Strong Brighton accent there though

What would happen if the Lions, Suns, Swans and Giants finished top 4 for 3 straight years, would they be forced to remove academies completely?
That would be the ultimate success for the AFL. If anything would solidify northern academies further.

Thats pretty close to whats been happening. If Gold Coast could stop bleeding talent. They would probably have gone finals this year if theyed just held onto Rankine. But they havent had the same NGA success as the others until last year so give it a minute.

GWS & Sydney have missed two finals series since 2016 and Brisbane have made the last 5 or 6 finals series. None of them likely to drop away given age profiles.

There is a counter argument that Vic teams have & continue to benefit from father-son (particularly) and NGA (lesser but now changed back).

Pies won a premiership last year off 3 top line father-sons.

Cats sustained success has been helped by Hawkins (further back GAJnr & Scarlett)

Dogs have Libba and Darcy father-son plus JUH NGA…

Scrap. It. All.

After Bewick (if he's still good) at least.

Surely other than GC/GWS this is purely chance. No more likelihood of Essendon, Collingwood or Geelong getting gun father/sons than Sydney, West Coast or Brisbane. In fact Brisbane got the #1 pick father son 2 years ago and likely will get a #1 pick father son this draft period. As long as the club is old enough for former players to have draft age sons there by definition cannot be an innate advantage based on location.

Wild idea (probably crazy)...

Ess out - 8
Tigers out - 29, 39, 41, 47
Freo out - 16, 27
Brisbane out - 18
Saints out - 24, 43

Ess in - 24, 27, 29, 41
Tigers in - 16
Freo in - 8
Brisbane in - 39, 43, 47
Saints in - 18

We trade back to absorb a Kako bid, but then are left with multiple picks inside 50, with at least 2 in the top 30ish, in a strong draft.

Draft hand would be - 24, 27, 28, 29, 41

Different take I guess

Gotta remember that we're only allowed to take in as many picks as spots we have open.

In theory i would be on board but it also depends on where and when Kako is bid on we would want at least 2-3 in the 20s

Deep draft though so it is a good idea i respect it

Yeah that's the main issue with the idea, if we knew where the bid would come it would make the call very easy either way.

Yep, so this little sook and pity party has gone into the AFL's decision making when it comes to handing out compensation for Battle.

We need to do something to get ahead of the Saints here.
Nah, we'll be fine

If St Kilda are interested, or even Melbourne, what do we do? Do we have to try and trade up?
Let him slide and use 9 and 28. Not like we can not land someone else who is rated in the similar range.
I would love to have kako but there are other guys we can take.
