And Ablett is just looking on . He has no pressure and is also known for talking up drafts a bit.
I think the question about why is fair but in reality we have botched up so much stuff in the last 10 years that the best play is to play the safe game and take the bunch of picks when they where available. Draft the best small forward and see where it goes from there. There will be people here who will lose their minds when the bid comes after 9 but in all honesty I prefer a safe and steady approach right now.
I keep going over this draft and I do not buy super draft. I think it is good and has depth but what made 2001 a super draft was star quality in a variety of different types and sizes. They where not a bunch of very good 180-182 cm midfielders. Hodge 185cm. Judd 189cm. Ball 183cm. Bartell 187cm. Hale as a ruck and there where several really good finds in the second / third / fourth rounds. It was not all the top 20.
The two players this year who have a bit of a point of difference in Lalor and Langford will go in the top 8 so we would not have been in range to get them anyway.
2014 is rated highly and it was not all about the top 20 either. 2018 the same. Some good in the top 20 but also some good further into the draft.

You and I share the same views, the "star" quality is simply not there.. what stands out to my (uneducated and very briefly) trained eye is the variety of players available. All with some standout attribute. The fact the top 3 - 5 is not even set in stone shows

I commented earlier that this draft has smalls (sub 183cm) and LOTS of talls (197cm+) but very few elite in between. I think we will find a lot of list cloggers from this draft imho. Ones who live of the potential they showed this year.

The mid range types are where the absolute elite players seem to be found (size wise that is). Be a good year to actually get needs or trade out of. We still have so many unknowns with our list, im ok with us moving into 2025

And now, according to Twomey, we are apparently offloading 28 and 58 for 32 and 47.

I would have thought we’d be trading some of that hotly contested currency into the future (could get good F2s) but seemingly we are looking to load up in the middle part of the draft post Kako.

I’d hope a trade with st k comes with a handshake re Kako.

So we will have

31, 32, 34, 35, and 47 ?
Means we hold picks 34, 35 and 47 post Kako bid

Aligns with Hamish Davis and then surely Angus Clarke makes too much sense at that area for us aswell

Maybe an Alger, Bowman, Hannaford small if were lucky

Tom Sims Tall

Obviousily prefer the mid 30s over F2s or a late F1

Ashcroft not getting bid on until pick 5 would be some straight up BS.
100%

And you can bet these ****ers like richmond, north and carlton are going to cry about brisbane fs/academy in the future, its parlty your fault for not making them pay full price ****ers

Crows did well by doing nothing and ended up with their #1 guy anyway.

i listened to that rubbish while on the way back from a late night massage

doesn't this dickhead know that clubs actually having a pick affects when players get taken?

Does this dumbass think if brisbane had pick 2 they'll draft the second best player and match levi at 5?

also if i'm tigers and saw essendon had kept their pick i'm bidding at 6 so i can move up pics 10 and 11, but since we traded out this strat is no longer in play

I hope Jeremy Cameron aka Harry Armstrong slides to us… then we’d win the draft! 😆

So they have 47, 48, 50, 59, 65, 68 and 69 to match Marshall. Heaps of points, will be enough to cover around pick 10.
