You can see on the radar at the bottom (I think the play is currently on the left) that players seem to stick closely to their positions. You can see the half forwards and deep forwards on the right, i.e. away from the action, are closely in formation. I understand that you can't have everyone around the ball like in real matches as it would be too slow and congested, but I hope the game has some fluidity in player positions, and isn't just an elaborate kick to kick with pairs of players.
I remember about 25 pages back the tactics files were leaked and it also showed tactics menus. The default tactics had players stay in their position but moving the defenders tactics had an option of letting players in the defensive line push up the ground. The players playing it in the video would have just had it on the default balanced option.

Arent they playing against each other though? Does a difficulty setting come into it in that case? Don't you just pick the difficulty level if you're playing against the AI?

Also, those camera flashes during set shots are fairly dumb.
I still think difficulty levels come into account, even in multiplayer. Surely the set shot mini-game becomes more challenging as you go up in difficulty level. At least I hope it does.

Generally in games like this anything that requires finer control is influenced by difficulty level.

Making "Wild judgements"? Presumably that includes anyone making positive comments on the game as well then?
Both sides are judging from the same tiny sample size but the way you're looked to be a negative prick for saying the game looks chaotic and robotic is classic Bigfooty – you say a player on your team is shit on here and they literally start doubting who you support.
Good calls. It's fair to use the 5 cherry picked clips we saw to point out all the good things, but as soon as you point out negatives you're branded as a whinger who isn't satisfied with anything under 2K quality.

see again, a lot of that is people who only post negative and grumpy things though..

on Facebook its often borderline trolling ...

so again, nothing wrong with pointing out testing errors, problems etc, but when it's chronic and no positive input then that just gets very annoying.

What will be interesting to see is if the different teams have different tactics set. Be a bit disappointing in season mode if every AI team tries to play the exact same way.

Yeah this would be great. Hopefully we can customise the tactics each team uses and it translates to actual gameplay. Would add so much to career mode.

I was disappointed when we saw the camera shot of the goal umpire signalling a goal... **** me, that's been the same for the last 15 years! A new angle would be fresh.

Firstly I haven't read the previous posts - so apologies if this has been said already.

At around the 4:30 mark of the review here :
He is discussing whether or not Shaw is sprinting or not. Now this would be a great feature as described, it would enable you to break away / create space from packs and stoppages as well as have time to hit up targets forward of the ball.

From what I can tell this is 100% a feature of the game. When viewing the game play footage, check the 'health' bar under each players name. This decreases as Shaw appears to sprint - undoubtedly confirming that sprinting is apart of the game!

Also what the hell happened to the Essendon face scans ? Only 5 decent ones, did the players turn their back on the AFL because of the drug scandal ?

Also, looked like the wind had little effect when goal kicking, although we did only see a couple of set shots. Really hope its MUCH harder to kick goals than all previous AFL games. They were far too easy.

My biggest concern from the footage was goal kicking and that easy lead up mark by Cameron. If goal kicking is a simply pull back and forward and the ball sails through the middle every time then it will be a farce. Set shots need to be more difficult as set shots are difficult in real life. Surely you need to do more than pull back and push forward????

Cameron easily taking a mark after the kick into the 50 meters worries me the most - scares me it's just AFL Live2 with lipstick. If you watch the footage of all the kicks to leads the defender seems to stop and not continue through to create the contest. If its just kick, mark, kick, mark, set shot through the middle then it will be shit.

I like how rapidly the "stamina" bar for Shaw runs down when he starts to sprint. This will lead to not having enough stamina to do a spin move or fend off as WW alluded to a while ago on a Facebook post. Hopefully the less stamina you have also results in less accurate field kicking/handballing, tackling ability, marking/spoiling ability and even set shot ability too.

This is CLEARLY because of human players not pressing anything and/or not knowing the controls.
In all the dodgy defending clips in this footage the player that appears to do nothing in marking contests has a blue player indicator around them.

Yep, very important for the longevity of the game. With any luck, hopefully the AI can change its team tactics during games as well.

Another thing I like during that Heath shaw turn and kick into the corridor passage.

If you look in bottom right hand corner, Callan Ward is chasing himself and then the white shirt version of Ward leaves him to go back at shaw, while the orange shirt keeps running toward goal.

This is all AI behaviour as neither are human controlled at any point.
The orange Ward then moves at 45 back into corridor when Shaw kicks it and arrives back on screen as the player marks shaw's kick, to more or less create a 2 on 1 while the white Ward is 35 metres away having been sucked into the original contest.

Edit
That reads terribly but it's easy to pick up when you watch it..
