I have been a full member for 4 years but the only time I bother to get a Grand Final ticket is if Collingwood makes it to the Grand Final. There are about 26k Gold AFL members of which 6,491 are pies fans and 2,362 cat fans. With the AFL capacity about 22,000 it seems I am in the minority as there are never any tickets left for silver AFL members. Surely if your team does not make it, why deny a fan the opportunity to see THEIR team win the flag. ;)

No such thing as an AFL Gold member

He probably meant a full member.
However, I never knew there was such a thing as Platinum Membership.
Found this on Ticketek:

Adult Platinum Priv Member (Full) $69.00 Junior Platinum Priv Member (Full) $27.50 Conc Platinum Priv Member (Full) $47.50 Adult Platinum Priv Member (Silver) $147.50 Junior Platinum Priv Member (Silver) $100.00 Conc Platinum Priv Member (Silver) $100.00

Collingwood has about 10,000 AFL Members. Only around 6,000 full. The rest will miss out. A lot of the full members of non competing sides will scalp their ticket. Would be fairer to give Members of competing sides first preference and then all the full members. That way, there would be less scalping and everyone would be happy.

What is the platinum membership?

From what I understand it's an initiative by the AFL a few years back to reward their longest (read earliest) AFL members. I'm not exactly sure how many people it's limited to, but I think it is around 500 or so?

Platinum members have access to cheaper GF tickets as well as some free guest passes during the year along with some other perks.

Basically when one member doesn't renew or passes away, the next member in line is offered the place. Much like upgrade from Restricted to Full except much more exclusive.

In '09, my brother's mate who is a full AFL member and Collingwood supporter let us buy his tickets since the Pies weren't in it.

Champion :thumbsu:

Will do my best to get in. I've watched and barracked for Collingwood every game they have't played North Melbourne for over 12 years, I've dressed my kids and my house in black and white, I've earned it and I want to be with my partner and mother in law as I was last year.

Wouldn't go if any other clubs were playing. Not a moral issue, I just wouldn't be interested enough and don't really get the appeal for neutrals.

Anyone lending out their cards would want to hope* they aren't asked to provide ID on the day - there were a few posts from people last year saying they lost their full membership because they'd let people borrow their membership to get into the GF.

*No doubt it's a very small chance of been asked

Used a few borrowed memberships today and it turns out one of them is a platinum member. Now the only thing left to do is I hope I don't get clipboarded. Especially with his platinum one.

Me and my mate were doing net and phone combo. When I got through on phone they said our codes were already used and it's saying that online too but no tickets!

being a collingwood supporter, why didnt u get yours yesterday?
I got mine, this morning my brother in law (Richmond club support full AFL member) was the one trying, and I was assisting him, to no avail.

Every Pies or Cats member got theirs yesterday, that sale never stuffs up because of the guarantee and small number of people actually eligible to buy on day 1 (about 8,000 from what I've been told), but it seems they stuffed up this morning with the general AFL members sale.

Was 7th in line at Newport newsagency. Got mine at 9:07. Q15 Row E.

Only 40% of the allocation was available on the net, 60% available at outlets, so you're better off organising to line up early and go to an outlet.
