Yeah, I was hoping I could slide the brain into neutral and forget about COVID and the lockdown while watching the footy. Why the hell would I want to be reminded of it? We already know we're in lockdown, we know we've still quite a few more weeks to go - we don't need some patronising gesture to make us feel better about it.

apparently yesterday was "Thank You Day" (same as last year) to recognise Victorians who have made so many sacrifices as part of the community effort to contain the spread of coronavirus.

While I fully agree with vaccinations, governments are selling the public get vaccinated and it’s back to 2019. It’s not happening and if people don’t believe me what ever happened to “flattening the curve”? Victoria/NSW will have some type of restrictions in the foreseeable future. It’s why a few other states don’t want a bar of the proposal put forward and will hold off as long as they can. The footy season next year is not going back to footy 2019 style.

Basil Zemplas has suggested that everyone at Optus stand up at 20:21 in the first quarter in order to give a round of applause to show support for Dan Andrews lockdown. A lot of backlash saying it is condescending which is just ridiculous. People want to avoid the reality isnt really the answer

I personally think this is a good idea. Its a much better idea then the Gabba patch of MCG turf one. Its more emotional and heartfelt

As a Melbournian i think it sounds kinda dumb TBH, But if a majority of people are happy for it and it brings some people some uplifting spirit than why not.

How does Basil get authority over Optus Stadium and the AFL to say what will be going on the screen. He’s the Lord Mayor of Perth FFS and Optus Stadium is not even in his jurisdiction, it’s State Government.

To be honest, there really is a lot of empathy here for everyone over east. We are very conscious of how lucky we've had it. Any tribute, even though it would be cringeworthy, would be heartfelt from most West Aussies. But a lot of people I know really don't think an applause during the first quarter should happen... just let the teams play, yeah.

The best thing we can do over here is put on a great atmosphere to the game. That should be our tribute I reckon.

I'm an Eagles member but will be donning a Melbourne cap for the game - just for today!
