AFL Grand Final experience v NRL Grand Final experience

Seriously, why are you here? The NRL GF (prime time) just got out rated by the AFL GF (Saturday afternoon). That is utterly embarrassing. Prime freaking time vs. Saturday afternoon. You should be thankful our code actually cares about tradition and hasn’t moved the game to a Saturday or Sunday night. The ratings gap would be absolutely brutal.

5pm isnt prime time champ..
7pm is and thats when nrl grand finals have rated the best..for the NRL

the fact the NRL comes close to the AFL is remarkable imo

lol, plenty of spare time on your hands..

I find the obsession from some anti RL people strange when it comes to the number of vics in the Storm side..

In 1996 I came to afl, but I never sat down and thought..wait a minute how many are from NSW , meh i guess thats just me

They don't have to play for the Storm. There just has to be at least a couple of non-NSW/QLD players in the competition. I mean, seriously, the national in NRL is really stretching it at the moment.

6-10:30pm is prime time. Majority of the actual GF was in PT ;)

BTW, I never usually do these petty AFL vs NRL rants, but it seriously pisses me off when people come on to our site with the sole intention of bagging the sport. What's the point? Anyone that does it is really battling (and that goes for anyone that does the same on League boards).

nah not really, people are tuning into watch an event, so it doesn't matter what time its on, before midnight of course.

haha like you can talk, 10 of your teams are all still in very close proximity to each other in Melbourne.
At least our teams are spread out more, and still play mostly at their own home grounds, we have one team in NZ too, have you got that yet?
Also will have a team back in WA the Reds in 2016, another one in NZ Wellington Orcas 2012 and another one in QLD 2016 a STH QLD team, plus another one in NSW on the central coast the Bears 2012, a relocated team to Adelaide, probably the Sharkies, 2016 + and a team in PNG Port Moresby Vipers 2016+where RL is the national sport.
So much for my sport 'dying' you afl muppets:)

so half of the game was in prime time ;)

I've been to both AFL and NRL Grand Finals. I enjoyed the AFL one much more because of the fact that it was my team in the AFL.

I went to the NRL Grand Final long after I had stopped watching the code - a friend (visiting from overseas) and I went because it was just so easy to buy the tickets and we thought it would be a fun thing to do.

IMHO the AFL Grand Final is much more of an event, better presented, and more 'prestigious' than the NRL one. The NRL Grand Final just feels like a big game. I've been to plenty of State of Origins and they used to be pretty good to go to. Another thing that makes the AFL Grand Final more of an event is that it goes for much longer - the NRL is only 80 minutes of game time as opposed to around 120 minutes for AFL.

Newcastle, Manly, Parramatta, Penrith, Wests Tigers, Bulldogs, South Sydney, Sydney, St.George........all within close proximity of the Sydney Metropolitian area as well. So, your point is?

Laughable that you believe the NRL will be able to expand and introduce so many new teams by 2016.

never been to an AFL GF, but i concur with you and your opening sentence. not saying that NRL GF's arent big events, but the professionalism and prestige with the AFL GF seems to have it over the NRL.......and im a born and bred sydney-sider who was brought up on rugby league. the AFL GF week is a massive event, with the Brownlow, the big supporter turnouts to training, the parade, the honours for retiring players at the game, etc.

on the last point, they did this at the NRL GF on sunday (i was there) with the honouring of 300-games players and the guys who were retiring at the end of the season.......they were either dressed like bums, or looked as though they were heading out to a nightclub. AFL players wouldve been a bit more professional and dressed in suits. doesnt sound like a big deal, but the little things all add up.

The NRL seem to do the "hoopla" well. Might be because the game is average at best.

You might be onto something here. Just look at their crowd numbers during the regular season, a fraction of the AFL's. Maybe the game just isnt that great to watch live?

There certainly was a massive buildup and "hoopla" for the NRL GF though. I live in regional WA and we were bombarded with advertising for it. And hey, it worked - watched my 1st ever NRL game, and it was pretty good.

They're both awsome as far as I'm concerned. I look forward to both. but will admit I find the night/evening NRL GF isnt as good as the arvo kick-off.

Great for TV and such, but there was something historic about it like the AFL GF. Kinda DOES feel like a big event rather then the special feeling that always was the GF day.

NRL Experience is shit because it's in sydney.

Bring the NRL GF to the MCG. Stuff Sydney!!

Nation wide including Regionals 3.6 Million watched the NRL GF... 3.4 Million watched the AFL GF.:thumbsu:
3.4 mill over 3 hours > 3.6 mill over 2 hours :thumbsu:
What was the peak???

If the NRL did all of that, they would die.

there's no way AFL would have been boosted to 3.8 from regional viewers, when the majority of regional viewers are from NSW and QLD. Anyway below is a link to the daily telegraph story confirming lebanesforces claim http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...-afl-grand-final/story-e6frexnr-1225783107883.

You believe the Daily Telegraph, owners of the NRL if you must.

I prefer to go by the official figures released by OzTAM and AGB Neilsen.
