AFL Grand Final experience v NRL Grand Final experience

See my previous post. Don't ever believe the trash reported by News Ltd. They have a pathetic agenda against the AFL, particularly in Sydney.

So the NRL GF:
  • Had two teams from different cities playing. The AFL had two Victorian teams. Clear advantage in terms of TV ratings.

  • Is shorter than the AFL GF, which means it's easier to maintain ratings for the entire broadcast.

  • Was virtually in prime time. The AFL GF was on a Saturday afternoon.
And still couldn't out rate our GF? Wait, the regional figures don't even include the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia? That's another 250,000 viewers right there. Truly hilarious. NRL flogs, face the facts: you're game has absolutely nothing on ours.

RingRot owned by the ratings that the TV executives and Sales executives care about. Hence why the AFL will demand and get $1 billion in the next rights and the NRL will have to deal with the change from a church money tray. News Limited (Storm owner) ran an article weeks ago saying NRL memberships and attendances are up, well they couldn't get any lower could they otherwise the figures would be in the red.

Another thing that makes the AFL Grand Final more of an event is that it goes for much longer - the NRL is only 80 minutes of game time as opposed to around 120 minutes for AFL.

4x20 minute quarters = 80 mins game time as in actually playing, same as Rugby league, except we only need one break, you need 3 lol:)

4x30 = 120 minutes gametime. How far do rugby players run per game? How often do they run more then 20ks?
I was reading Craig Hutchisons (cringe) article in the HUN a few weeks ago and he stated that this Jarryd Heyne (??) the best player in NRL trained with Essendon through the pre-season two seasons ago or something but left mid way through as the training, fitness regime etc was too taxing. Ouch!

I loled. Far worse timeslot and the AFL still beat the NRL. Where's your corporate dollar or crowds?

nah we got 200,000 more, timeslot has got nothing to do with it, this is grand finals, the same people will tune in no matter what time.

Our corporate dollar and crowds are growing, who cares if its not as much as AFL, as long as everything is increasing, its enough for us to survive and annoy you stuck up afl'ians:):thumbsu:

plus we have 4 nations coming up , Australia, NZ, England & France, which should be a cracking tournament, and I know a lot of vics will be tuning in, especially after the Storm getting more & more popular now.

We have 4 nations tournaments now, what have you got to even come close to that?

A bastardized game, against one small northern hemisphere country:) which they kick your arses in LOL

Did you miss the official figures posted earlier in this thread? The AFL GF rated 3,847,000 across metropolitan and regional Australia (not including Northern Territory and regional South and Western Australia).

Here are the links with undeniable proof:

Leave before you further embarrass yourself.

Wrong again.

Anyone know how News Ltd arrived at that conclusion. What figures were they looking at? Was it a mistake? Was it an outright and calculated deception?

Just have a look at the official ratings (not incudling NT, country SA and country WA)
4 x 20 minute quarters = 80 minutes.

Sorry but you cant count the ten minute breaks as part of the actual gametime dude,
I think this guy is having us on...

Demand? That's the attitude of a petulant child mate, so what if you get a billion, we will be getting a lot more too.

Memberships are going up in NRL, and they have never been better.
Membership is big in AFL, because people down there kind of live in their club, where up here, its more about just supporting your team at the game or on TV, that's changing a bit now, but the average league supporter isnt really as obsessed with the club in the way you guys are.

The NRL Grand Final didn't even feel like "the biggest game of the year." Seemed a bit flat throughout most of the game and it was over as soon as the excitement even started.

I was out at a restuarant/diner when the game was on and asked for it to be changed for the last 20 or so minutes. People weren't even watching and most were asking for Pink's funhouse to be thrown back on. Shame...
