Yesterday, Mr CEO Andrew said that the grand Final wil never leave the G, so deal with it, Aussie Rules was created by Victorians FOR Victorians.

He also originally said the first qualifying final involving either the Swans or Eagles would be at the MCG.

Second Elimination Final to be exact.
And you better be happy the AFL gave you that final, lucky that your club is their lovechild.

Stade De Oz? This would be the same stadium where having 60,000 people produces about the same atmosphere as 30,000 at the MCG.

The AFL should NEVER move from the MCG ever. could you imagine if the GF was played at AAMI stadium this saturday. Talk about a complete anticlimax. One of the best things about the GF is the tradition. You start holding GF's in 6 different stadiums and it will lose everything that makes Grand FInals so great.

99.9% of AFL players dreams are to play a Grand Final at the MCG. Not at AAMI or the Gabba.
Indeed.

Look at the FA Cup final, the players have said and the fans that it just isn't the same as winning it at Wembley.

Also, wouldn't you intersaters like it better if you won the Premiership on our turf?

The WCE did.

I wish your game had of remained in Victoria instead of you lot pumping in millions of dollars promoting it in Sydney...

You sound jealous of our so called lovechild status. If only the AFL could give us a premiership. Seems the Lions are the real lovechild of the AFL.

Actually Aussie Rules was created by cricketers as a means of staying fit in the offseason. It then when on to start it's own leagues and went from there. It does not belong to Victoria.

They arn't given Premierships you idiot, if your uneducated Sydney mind went off and saw a Lions game you'd see that side is the best of the last 10 years.

That would only happen in a truly national game. The AFL is not truly national.

Painfully true. And a very vic centric CEO at the helm now.

BTW, The creation of Aussie rules as we know it is varied between:
1) A NSW-elsh man. (Willis ?)
2) An adoption based on an Aboriginal game (Marn Grook).
3) A winter pastime to keep cricketers fit.

Probably a combination of all three, and no mention of "victoria" at all.

Really, reading the comments of many footy supporters on this board it would seem to be the case that SCC provided by the AFL made the Lions the best team of the last 10 years. Isn't that the line continually trotted out on this very board to explain their success?

For everyone on this board:

Chesterton is an absolute goose who thinks his opinion matters. (plenty of Melbourne equivilents for sure). His knowledge of AFL (and the coverage in his paper) is limited. He is one of the league journalists up here who thinks he knows everything.

It won't happen. Sure, lets move the NRL Grand Final to Melbourne because the MCG can hold 75,000.

There is no logic in it whatsoever.

Besides, they would not fill Telstra. They only get a full house for Origin, the Grand Final and rugby. See the crowd this Sunday for the Cowboys and Roosters as an example. I would go if there was a GF here but it won't happen.

History Lesson
1. Game invented in the colony of Victoria. Wills was born n NSW beacuse at the time there was no state of Victoria.
2. A total crock of dingo poop. Read Professor Blainey's "A game of our own"
3. Yep, cricketers from Victoria.

I wasn't aware Picton was part of Victoria? Isn't that where Wills came from?

Don't forget Wills time at the Rugby School in England. No doubt had some influence on how the game evolved.

I think the Grand Final should always stay at the MCG, but I do think the AFL missed a golden opportunity to transfer a one-off Grand Final to Sydney during the MCG upgrade.

lol actually it was created by 2 sydneysiders who wanted to test it out in victoria before seeing if it could survive against union in sydney....it did not (at first)

What Chesterton overlooked is that the reasons why some Victorians wouldn't be interested (ie no Victorian team) applies equally to Sydney with no NSW team making the grand final.
At some point in the future I think it's inevitable that the grand final will be moved around to the city of the team that qualifies to host it. It may be 30 years away, but I'm sure it will happen. But there's no point playing a grand final in Sydney until a NSW team qualifies to host it.

Having said all that, if this game had been in Sydney and there were tickets available, I'd go.

Actually, it was created by a bloke born in New South Wales. From memory, I think it was somewhere close to where the middle of NSW currently lies today.

My sentiments exactly.

Living in Sydney, I can say that I don't want the game here....

Won't the game still sell out in Melbourne anyway??

Whats the problem??

I wouldn't mind the game in Sydney.

I'd go for sure - if RL wasn't on at the same time of course which it wouldn't be.

It would give the game a massive boost in Sydney.

The AFL only get a full house at the G during a G.F don't they?
