AFL Live 2

Okay, so played it more and well, it isn't so much frustrating, but it is getting boring very quick. Might just take it back for a full refund and put the money towards Saints Row IV on PC.

I don't think a sports game can be taken seriously if it has big head mode

Bobbleheads never get old :)

NBA Jam was awesome - he's on fire!!!!

Have played AFL Live 2 for the past 2 days.

  • It's at times, a fun arcade-y game you'd play with a bunch of friends every now and then. It does get fairly boring after a short time though.
  • Shooting for goal is ridiculously hard. I've given up and just press X (PS3) when shooting for goal from now on (if there is no-slight wind, and within 40m out).
  • Evading tackles is incredibly OP.
  • Bumping is incredibly OP.
  • Spoiling doesn't work very well. Once your opponent is in a good position to mark, you're unable to spoil regardless of how close you are to the player when the ball arrives.
Will probably end up returning this on Monday and use the money towards GTA V and FIFA 14. I'll probably pick up it again before the 2014 AFL season kicks off when hopefully it's a bit cheaper. It's probably deserving of ~$30 -- perhaps a release that should have been destined to the PSN/Xbox Live market?

Returned it today and got my money back no questions asked. Thank god for EB, and I wish I read this thread before buying it.

So do you get cash? Not store credit? Because if it's store credit I might just keep the game

If you return to EB within 7 days of purchase you get a full refund no questions asked. Its like hiring a game for free.

Okay, so I went through a whole career season and played round 1 of 2014... why the **** are the player numbers different? That is extremely ****ing stupid. Seeing Pavlich with 23 and Fyfe with 32 is annoying as ****.

I'm definitely returning it now.

hmmm as far as I know there is no update.... probably best to ask TB on their FB page but I would say it is not a patch as it is too small.

Cash in hand no questions asked, even went to a completely different store to do it.

Awesome fellas. Will keep this money for FIFA 14 then probably pick up AFL Live 2 again in the new year, once the season kicks off again and the DLC is out

Played this with a mate who owns it last night, here's my initial thoughts. Keep in mind I only got a couple of games in and it's been a while since I played the first AFL Live so be lenient on any comparisons I make if they seem a little off. (pepper your angus for lots of words)

>> Marking is better - getting into position for where the ball is going to drop is an easier process and the marks look pretty good. I like the dropped marks aspect, but I dunno whether this is random or calculated based on button timing or player abilities. Either way, it keeps things interesting.
>> Spoiling is worse - there are a lot of animations for marks, catching high balls and low balls, but with spoiling it seems like you can only spoil high balls. Makes it frustrating if you're a defender who doesnt have front positon because theres nothing you can do, even if you've got time to get close to your opponent.
>> The ball bounces around well in general play - I noticed this straight away. Just in general it looked and moved a little more realistically. I havent played other games in a while but it's definitely something I noticed straight away, so it must be pretty different.
>> Button layout could be better - having the same button for tackling and kicking = shanks from congestion.
>> Tackling/evading is much improved - seeing players do superman jumps after missing a tackle looks a little silly, but I think the mechanic itself works well. It's more realistic in that you cant always expect to be able to get hold of a player (ie holding down a button and gaining magnetic powers that draw you to a player and let you get a hold every time). The slightly improved movement means you can choose to corral players instead of just running at them. Next time you watch AFL, look at how many tackles get evaded, and how the attempted tackler wont really stay in the play after missing a tackle. Should mention tho that neither me or my mate knew what the "break tackle" button was, so I dunno how balanced that is.
>> Playing on from marks/free kicks is broken - just tap the turbo button and the ump will yell play on even if you havent moved! Not to mention the lack of fluidness in playing on from a mark (your player will stop and backtrack for 1-2 seconds no matter what)
>> Kicking in sucks - can't direct or look around with your player at all. If you play on in the hopes to kick wide you're gonna get monstered by 3 opponents with no teammates around anywhere to support you.
>> Defensive positioning sucks - don't play anything except man-to-man otherwise the goalsquare and FF will be unattended.
>> Game pace is too fast - not sure if it's adjustable but I think a lot of problems could be solved if the movement of the ball was just lowered a tad. Gameplay is mostly implied panic cos of how fast everything is going. I understand that it's probably to cater for the smaller timed quarters, but it's too damn fast. Let the ball float a little, let players get into position and let human's calculate where players are running to.
>> No replay function - had a passage of play where I got a third man up into the ruck and then my ruckman kicked a goal off the ground from a tight angle but had no way of reliving it's greatness.
>> Zero effort went into player ratings - If you actually look into the attributes for each player, you'll find that all of their attributes will be around the same level as their overall. e.g. I think Maric's overall rating was somewhere in the 80s, for arguments sake, i'll say 85. That means his speed is around 85. Matt White's overall was 65 (or something), which means his speed was 65. Makes for some pretty 1-dimensional gameplay; just put all your highest rated players on the field anywhere you want them! Thankfully we saw that newly generated players had varying abilities. Also some players have interesting positions assigned to them!
>> Some players look like bikies - random goatees and beards aplenty.
>> Set shots - good luck kicking from anywhere outside 25m. Mechanic seems ok, in that if you power up too much you shank, but why does an overpowered kick = a 10m shank? Dont think you can even take set shots from the boundary, making the right stick curve ability pretty much useless.
>> User interface is just plain bad - this is probably the worst part of the whole game. How hard is it to insert text that is readible? Good luck to anyone trying to read stats at the end! Also, good luck to anyone with the patience to move players around the ground mid game, you'll have to confirm every damn positional change you make. Navigating the menu = A button changing it's function for every screen. Just shockingly poor and extremely amateur work on something so basic.]
>> Career mode looks interesting - didn't get a full experience of all that can happen in it but it looks like something that can give you enough goals and interest to keep playing. Although spawned rookies look ridiculously highly rated. >90 ratings for 1st rounders

That's probably enough, they're some of the first things I noticed. I might try n get the game cheap by trading in some others along with it, and then will get on the massive task of adjusting player ratings to see if it actually helps with the gameplay.

I think the real dealbreaker with this game will come down to whether or not you can change the height of socks. If so, it's no wonder BigAntStudios wasn't on board! :p

I cant risk infecting my xbox with this vermin of a game anymore.

Went and used it to play frisbee with my dog, but even he doesnt won't a bar of it. Went to use it as a coaster, but the table still got destroyed. Threw it in the bin, but after collection there it was at the bottom - they rubbishman didnt even want the piece of shit.

Jesus I have heard some stinker reviews on this game so far. Just seems to have careless errors.
Will they have an update that revolves purely around these errors?
Eg - someone mentioned a few posts up that in your second year of career mode player numbers change. That would almost be enough for most users to throw it out. We want a game that doesn't have STUPID and RIDICULOUS errors like that.

Go and play in front of 2k

2014 premiers

Unbelievable. You get knocked out by a team that didn't deserve to be in the 8, they finished 9th (lol), and you guys are still up and about like youre the best team ever.

At least we made the finals which was the aim for this year. We still had a great season

Do you still think you'll be 2014 premiers?

Yep. We have proven we can match it with everyone except maybe Freo and Sydney. We were literally 1 point out of making the 8.
