so apparently the pre-order bonus at eb is a football, didnt see that one coming.

OMG a football with the new afl game I don't believe it who would have thought that would happen.

Maybe when the new cricket game comes out they will release it with a little cricket ball that too would be a surprise.

But in all seriousness I know it's the most obvious choice but you think they might have been a little more creative.

Maybe a lintel ( don't know if it is spelunking right or if it is even the right word if it's not please feel free to correct me) cover the one that moves.

Or maybe a plastic football that opens up and you can keep the game in the football( sort of the same as the halo helmet or the Stewie family guy head where the product is kept inside).

Just a few ideas I'm sure people have many others.

I'd like to see a good AFL game. I don't sit there looking at the case. That's just me though.

I appreciate your ideas, but geeeeez. Who gives a damn about the case?

A crappy little football is a lot cheaper to make than a plastic football that opens up and houses a game.

I have no idea what a lintel cover is though. Do you mean something like a holographic cover?

What you have to remember is that this football is a PRE-ORDER INCENTIVE. It's just a free extra for saying "thanks for pre-ordering here" or "pre-order here and you get this for nuffin'". These stores want a cheap and inexpensive way to do that.

All other and more extravagant items would come with a 'Collector's Edition' type of thing, which is very rare for sports games to get as there aren't exactly a whole lot of incentives to a buyer of the annual sports title than superfluous items that you'll be done with by the time you put the game into your system of choice.

Also IC2010 actually did come with a cricket ball.

I couldnt care what the cover looks like either. I just want to play the game. And I just thought while on the topic I would suggest some ideas for future eb pre-order bonuses besides a plain old football.

Yeah I meant holographic didn't know if that was the right word.

And I think there is a word like lintel which also means holographic.

And what I meant by the alternate pre-order bonus is something a little more intriguing than a football or something people might actually want to keep.

Lenticular.;)
They are different from holograms but same shite really. It's a picture that changes when you move it. They do make a good cover though.

Pre order was always likely to be a football. I'll send mine to bigant & get them to sign it after I've washed the EB games logo off of it. (after all, what did they do)

I LOVE in game content for pre order/special edition bonuses. Physical/additional stuff just sits around or gets chucked in the cupboard.
Even golden boots would be cooler :p

Geez, to all you sooking about the free pre-order mini footy - it's better than a kick in the balls you ungrateful tosspots.

Feel blessed to be getting anything at all.

Now now son... That's just not the 21st century attitude. I was hoping for a free plasma, grand final tickets, replica premiership cup & a can of Dr Pepper for pre ordering. Don't get me started on a collectors edition.:D

In all seriousness, there wasn't a whole lot of sooking going on, just people stating that the bonus was/is obvious and their ideas/likes for alternatives.
The game is all we really want.

see thats the problem
the decisions made will make pc sales even worse.

Which then makes it look like they are right an wasting their time with pc

An torrent downloads does not = a lost sale for every torrent.
The majority wouldnt buy the music album or in this case game in the first place.
But because its so easily accesible for them they get it to try it out.

I download lots of music most of which i would never of bought in the 1st place.
The stuff i know i like i buy.
My guess would be 300,000 torrent downloads = 20,000 lost sales

Since u say its cheaper to release pc versions.
Try to bring the customers back, offer them stuff only available online through exe checks etc eg roster updates.
Take the time to release quality ports or even better scratch built specifically for pc.

Everything currently being done is just causing more an more to turn away from pc

You are a very wise man sman-21, I agree with you 100%. We have an old saying in sweden which fits perfectly on this senario: One should tempt with carrots, not execute harsh punishments.

OFF TOPIC: I don't think I can offer a carrot greater than the free game delivered by a torrent.

PS: The carrot is that there is a PC version at all - If it were my choice I would not be making a PC version as I have been badly, badly burned by PC releases. This is not an arguable point, it is fact.

Maybe not you, but I belive someone can. spotify is a service available in sweden in which you stream your music legally, and since it's introduction I am not aware of anyone who download music illegally anymore. The only way of getting rid of piracy is to offer something better.

Finnaly some more werribee folk thought I was the only one LOL.

No, I'm one too. ;)

What is the alternative? Soon as a game is released on PC there is a torrent to download. Don't blame the developers\publishers one bit in delaying the PC release.

Not for all games - I'd point to anything released by Grey Dog Software for instance.

And plenty of games have been able to get huge numbers of buys in recent times without draconian DRM, heavy multiplayer elements or a major publisher - see Dominions 3, World of Goo and Recettear for instance. Good quality games, ongoing support, strong community.

The problem is that it's going to create a circular argument. They think they will lose sales on PC, so they release it later. The PC version eventually comes out - people already have a console version or have far less enthusiasm for it, sales are low, and they say, "Aha, see - no point in a PC release).

It's just bloody annoying for those of us who don't use consoles.

I hear you donners, and I feel for the honest PC users however the fact is game piracy on PC is a huge issue. I've removed a few posts from BF users from these AFL threads about finding torrents for this game when it's released.

Ross noticed your Twitter and Facebook pages\accounts are agreeing with the EB\Game release date.

See what happens when I am away ;)

Time to hit some people with some carrots :)

Sounds good, oh and you should hit up the Carlton Mods for your larger avatar etc since you've sponsored Kreuzer.
