1. I'd say it's closer to being a sound function than a random affair. If you manage to hit the power on the flush spot before it becomes a scrubber kid, and can angle it well enough toward goal - you should be alright, just so long as you get the height.

I tried pulling one of these off in Shane and my game, but as the ball kept low it was cut off by a defender of his that had dropped back to protect the square; another touch I enjoyed seeing.
How do you get height onto the kick, is that all part of timing the kick right?

Ross
In Gibbos' article he spoke about players getting their arms free and getting off a handball, will this happen all the time by just pressing the handball button or does it come down to player skill?

You can't always get the ball off, it depends on how long into the tackle you wait, the direction of the tackle, the direction of the handball, are your arms pinned, etc....

In the screenshot of a marking contest between Wellingham and Judd (pretty sure its judd) the contest looks really good and the contact between players looks great, i have seen the screenshot before numerous amounts of times, but just thought i might comment on it :)

You're going to love the video then! Lots of contact before, during and after the marking contests.

Hey Ross, just a question about the 360 Degree Spoiling mate. Say I am controlling a player running backwards into a pack and I hit the spoil button, will he kind of just blindly take a jab at the footy or will he turn around and attempt a spoil in air (Assuming the spoil button was hit while the thumbstick was controlling his movement in the same direction)

In AFL 07 hitting Circle at any stage meant the player just did a weird air-fist pump regardless where you were controlling him haha thanks.

I hope in the new afl game Scott pendlebury doesn't have those ridiculous looking dreadlocks on his head he shouldn't seeing as players were modeled sometime ago.

He doesnt have the dreadlocks thank God. In one of the contest pictures from Gibbo's article, he is standing in front of a contest and has short hair similar to how he had in Rounds 13-14 last year, no silly dreads!!

Hey Ross. I'm a fanatic Collingwood supporter but I can't figure out who the Collingwood player on the far left in the 4th Xbox world article is... help!

Does that really matter? If he did, would it stop you from playing the game?

Will the tackle animations be the same, similar or totaly different from RLL?

Different. I think one aspect Ross said that is totally different between the two is the tackling, because that was one of the main focus' of RLL. In any event, I doubt you'll see 2 players pick up one other and slam him on the ground!

Gibbo or Ross if you could answer this it wuld be much appreciated!!

I'm just wondering if you saw what happened when someone got ran down from behind but was attempting a kick. Was it automatic holding the ball or on occasions did the ball dribble forward like a stubbed kick? I hated in AFL 2007 when you were winding up for a kick and got caught from behind and it was automatic holding the ball. If you';re able to answer that, cheers!!

By the way, an excellent article. The more im reading about this game, the more im liking it

Hey Ross, thought of a brillant question last night whilst at work so ill just ask this one..

When chasing the ball thats on the ground in hot pursuit by another player, how fast am I able to pick the ball up and get a handball away? I hope I dont pick it up and immediatly get tackled

Also, will the ball have the sponsors of the home team?

I just want to know what The **** I get for pre-ordering!!!!!

Yer thats wat i thought because ross also said that they are looking into gang tackles for future versions of the game. But hopefully you can still tackle somebody really hard to the ground :)

I have a question for all the posters on this topic, do all of you sit here 24/7? i feel like i come and check the forum twice or 3 times a day and have to read 5 pages worth of posts lol, it's insane!!

BTW nice review and thanks for you opinion on the game Gibbo, gives me something more to look forward to prior to the release of the game.

just a question for either ross or gibbo, I understand you can create a guernsey for your custom team but can you create a guernsey for an existing team for example, an away guernsey for essendon an if you can will they be able to wear it in an exhibition game

Gotta dig into the memory now (it all seems so long ago) but from memory if they hold the tackle button too long, theres a chance of giving away a free kick via 'in the back'.. the person being tackled has the chance to handball it away, if they don't then yeah, free kick to the tackler. It wasn't something as dodgy as "tackle = automatic free kick". There definitely seems to be more depth to these things than I was expecting, that's for sure.

I didn't see any 'dropping the ball' decisions from the limited time we spent with BigAnt, but then again you never bloody see that paid in real life these days anyway. :p

Hey again all,

Just cause I've had a couple of PMs asking about the article and how to find it (apparently people don't feel like backtracking into the previous thread) you can find it as the main splash graphic on the www.xboxworld.com.au website.

Thanks again, and enjoy.

Maybe you should put the link in your signature?

Also, Ant_ it might help to put a link in the FAQ.
