Marking contests are really hard to impossible as the AI is already leading before the kick beforehand is done, so you're always out of position. When exactly do you tap it as I find repetitive tapping of the mark button hardly works against the AI.
You have to expect games to be difficult when you first get them. Pretty much every sports game I've played starts out with me getting flogged for the first few days, then I get a hang of it and things even out. Have patience, and be thankful it isn't the case where the game becomes too easy and you end up flogging the AI every single time on the hardest difficulty (previous AFL games).
I don't like the sound of the AI accuracy though. Seeing scorelines of 11.0 or 18.1 kind of reminds me of in FIFA 11 where the AI will have three goals from three shots on goal. It feels kinda cheap.

just replayed the match against Sydney at the SCG got to the end
thumped them 81 - 54
freezes on the siren again !!!
this pretty much makes the game unplayable if i cant get past the 5th game of the season

Just went to my EB in Cairns, stock hasn't arrived.
Walked 30 metres down the shopping centre....JB had it for $89.....score!
Changed my pre order deposit to LA Noire.

As Ant has just posted previously, we have simulated the issue above and are working hard on a workaround/fix. In the meantime if you simulate the game that crashes then you can progress through the rest of the season.
I understand that this is not great solution as the season based trophies will not be earned, but I assure you we are all on it and I will keep you updated.

Are you serious! I haven't been to any play tests and my first game I won on Rookie... Just keep practicing, it will come. Just like everything else. Also make sure you nail your set shots, just watch the gameplay videos, that helped me pretty much get every single one of mine in the first game I played. Because it gives you an idea of how far to one side you should aim.
Oh and a tip with marking, don't be tempted to button mash. Try and get yourself into front position if possible and try and time it. I know it doesn't really help but still.

also be strategic and sometimes let the opposition take the ball and tackle them straight away - ou can often force the ball to spill and have a second team mate mop up and you're away

Picked up the game before lunch at EB
After a few games played, I am absolutely loving it!!! The tackling is great and it feels satisfying when you dish the ball off to a runner. Many times I have ran from the wing, into the forwards and hit the leading full forward on the chest, e.g. G.Ablett to N.Ablett. That was great and looked so real. The ruck contests are brilliant as well, it shows that a lot of thought and effort was put into it. The game does have a few minor problems but that's what was expected, I'm just so happy we have an AFL game on the next-gen consoles.
