Think I'll have to take you up on that offer one of these days. 3 games tonight for 3 super teams who did nothing but cheat whenever they could. Lost all 3 in close matches because I refused to stoop to their level and fight fire with fire.

Makes the game so irritating if both teams do nothing but bump each other for 20 mins straight, but really, not sure I could be much more irritated then I am right now so might just have to bite the bullet or stop playing...cos even I'm getting sick of my whinging now

I hate custom teams and dirty tactics as much as anyone, but the bump is a fine line. While it is an exploit to an extent, is it ok to use it sometimes but not always? If you think it is, then you have to accept that there will be many different interpretations of what is ok, even among people who consider themselves to be fair, legitimate players.

You have said IIRC in previous posts that when running towards the ball it is ok to use it as a shepherd for a team-mate. Given that, I would consider it ok to bump at the last minute when approaching the ball as this is a tactic used in the AFL. Would you accept this?

My point really is that if you are going to bump at all, you can't then complain about others using the bump 'too much' in response. It's too much of a grey area.

In saying this, I will not even attempt to justify super custom teams.

The bump, and AI bugs turned me off the game really. Just made close games seem won on luck rather than excecution.

If these two things, and online play in general can be improved I can see the next game getting a strong supporter base.

I accept whatever it is my opponent does and however he decides to use the bump. It's not like I can do anything about it other than voice my frustrations, doesn't mean I don't accept it.

To answer your question more accurately though, the main things I have against bumping before picking up the ball is that once one person starts doing it, the other player immediately wants payback and bumps at the next given opportunity, often leading to them constantly bumping from that point onward in retaliation. Secondly, it can lead to a non-stop bumping contest between the two players, disallowing either player to pick up the ball until either a free kick is awarded to one side for rough play, or another player runs in and collects the ball.

So no, not really a fan of it, given the way the bump currently works in the game.

I agree. Thing is, I don't bump at all unless I start getting my ass kicked against super teams who bump constantly, including after marks. When I said that I don't mind people bumping to shepherd a teammate onto the ball in a two on one situation, I didn't mean that I do it.

In that two on one situation, I prefer to take control of the furthest away from the ball of my two players and run him into a position to receive the handball from my closer AI player who is about to pick up the ball. I wish more people would play this way. Like instead of bumping the player who is kicking the ball, they should take control of a player down the field and get him into position to intercept the kick by "reading the play". I suppose most people prefer to just take the easy and cheap option, rather than the tactical one.

It's good sometimes when I come up against a bumper who once he sees that I don't bump at all, stops bumping as well....very rare though.

I played online with a mate the other day, who had only played the game a handful of times... and....knowing that we'd have a two on one advantage, I instructed him not to do any dodgy stuff, like illegitimate shepherding, or massively running off with the rover from stoppages.

Ended up having four cracker games against people (who were playing just as one player). We lost three games narrowly, then won the last one in a tight contest. Awesome fun.

RE: Super teams. I love the IDEA of allowing custom teams online. I always love taking my custom local footy team online. It opens the door for exploitation though.... That's why I'd love to have the option to filter the game search. (i.e Real, Custom, Both)

OFF TOPIC

Anyone else going to the Carlton Guernsey Presentation Dinner tomorrow night? Be good to meet some people from here - PM me.

Cheers,

Ross.

With all this talk of custom teams and people sharing them, what a shame that the obvious is not avaliable, updated roster from Big Ant etc, of which I am sure people would pay for.

Guess we can dream of it.

Good idea in theory, but the problem with it is that by trading Brad Ebert and Brent Renouf into Port and removing Chad, Brogan and Motlop I've technically made Port a 'custom team', even though I've actually lowered their stats. This would only work if they released a roster patch after the off-season (at least a patch including trades and recycled players if it would be too much effort to recreate all the draftees). Otherwise anyone wanting to use their team's 2012 line-up would get stuck playing against the super teams.

Mr Ross, gonna be at the game this weekend?

Would be nice to get you drunk and get info about the next release :)

I am definitely thinking about it... hopefully we turn up this week!

A "game" at Princes Park is hard for any Blues suporter to go past :)

Info will come in good time.... I am on a tight leash! Happy to catch up on the day - PM me

This is shit....

Real Season starts next week and Big Ant is prepared to say **** all...either tell us that the game is expected to be released in the next month or two (there is no point releasing the game from July onwards, what a waste of consumers money!!!)...or say there won't be one, and release the patch (which surely would take a football nut a couple of days to upload)

I need a new game for PS3 and I would rather keep my money for AFL Live rather than spend it on another game (because I will buy AFL live no matter what)

Calm down, my best guess there will not be a 2012 release. If there was to be a yearly release they'd be called AFL '11 etc.

Please understand that we are not the publishers of the game, it is not our job to release information about release dates etc..

I am more than happy to answer any questions about the game that I can, I am on here at least once a day.

I really appreciate that we have your support with regard to purchasing the game, it is certainly what we need.

What's up with the Big Ant website. Something big happening shortly?

It hasn't gone down by design! Someone is looking at it now...

Abusing BigAnt wont solve anything. Ask the questions, if he can't answer them. Move on and get over it. I would like it to be available now but will be buying it no matter when it's released.

ok what can you tell us

breaking news sidebar: Diablo 3 release date confirmed for May 15

PS ross please put loot in the next afl

Anyone who expected an immediate follow up (ie start of 2012 season) was kidding themselves. For starters i'd imagine BigAnt would've had to see how sales went before they could even green light a follow up. And then add to that time spent getting last year's patch done. To expect the new release straight away this year is just crazy, especially considering all the features that are on people's wishlists.

Ah ok. While you are here, can I ask. how many games are currently in development at Big Ant?

Site's back up :thumbsu:

We have three titles on the go :)
