A freestyle stick, like FIFA, gives the ability to blind turn, fake runs/handpasses, dodge and weave and all that jazz. Preferably the right thumbstick holding the left trigger.

Also a bumping/tackling stick when you do not have the ball. Like NHL, slam the right thumbstick to bump, also use it when tackling, but to tackle it requires holding of the left bumper.

Right bumper to change players. When you have the ball you can also change players, letting the AI run ahead with the footy, leaving you to lay some good sheppards. These sheppards will be more effective than you taking total control of the ball carrier and letting the AI to bump. This factor will encourage more people to use this tactic.

Dribble goals and stab passes will be created by also holding the left trigger and pressing Y/A. Hold the button too short/long will see a dribble pass miss before the goals or dribble past it. The same for a stab pass will see the ball drop short and the the ball either kicked past/over the receiver.

Have a power bar for handballing, where you have to judge the right distance.

For goal kicking, have something like FIFA where you have to hold for the right power on the right angle, too much power and you spray it, comepletely wrong angle you spray it. Obviously it will be easier than FIFA.

For marking, have the player time his run, using the right thumbstick to fend off like before, but then have the player hold the left bumper and then using the right thumbstick to mark, holding up for overhead, down for a half volley mark, and in between for a chest/out in front grab. Also left/right will push off an opponent. (The player can choose to turn this on if they are finding the classic marking system too easy).

Also make the game a bit more smooth, better ball physics and you are laughing. I don't care about anything else, just these things which will make the game harder and more fun to master.

The AI is awful to the point where the CPU on your team is running to the same ball you're going to get to first and creating no space. Likewise when defending they don't slowly zone off the opponent to try and prevent the handball from coming over the top, they charge at a certain distance and once you know this distance you beat them every time.
Players movement shouldn't really be hindered by the ball, unless bouncing it. There needs to be an element of realism to the movement of players in that you can do all the weaving and faking that is critical to all the one on one contests at ground. It gives you space, allows for flowing football and combine this with realistic sprint speed with the ball and outside mids can burst away into space and complete the picture.
I really like the game because it has the basic game design to build upon. It at times feels like real football, unlike the older titles.

Sorry to say that this has been explained a few months back as being a conscious design decision - in play testing we were told the super quick players were incredibly powerful and the game became unbalanced.

Personally I agree with this approach. True it lessens the realism of the game but it makes breaking clear when it does happen really exciting, and the quicker players are definitely better at doing this than others, even with the heavy ball.

Needs a 3rd man up option

and with trading to have more than 2 parties invlovled

Also a optional show at half time, like the extra point with madden

The more I play the game the more annoyed at picking up the ball and player movement.
Even after the patch I'm still running straight over the ball. Getting the ball first often isn't an advantage because the tackler can get you before you're able to do anything. You can't do anything to fight for a ball that's on the ground, you can only run towards it and hope to pick it up. If you pick the ball up near the boundary or goal line you can't keep the ball in which can be very frustrating at times.
As for player movement, my main problems are players running back to their man/position when they're the closest to the ball and defenders automatically running to where the ball will land instead of being able to go to their man. What's really frustrating is that you have no control over either of these things.

Hopefully these kinds of issues will be sorted by the next game.

I'd like to see Big Ant working with the makers of Premiership Coach 2011.
Together I'm sure they could come up with the ultimate AFL game.

I think they should add a feature that you can like choose/create one specific player that you control, so say you choose a player that is just in the draft camp, you would have to go through all that training and push yourself, and once/if you get drafted you then can choose what you do in your pre-season and your training sessions, and then when it comes to game day, you play as the whole team as usual. And then you go through as that player managing his life and everything he does pretty much untill you choose to make him retire.

things that you need to bring to afl live:

. VFL STADIUMS AND VFL TEAMS

. MORE AFL STADIUMS AND NAB CUP STADIUMS

. A BANNER WHEN A TEAM COMES OUT

. THE COACH SPEAKING TO THE PLAYERS BEFORE
THEY COME OUT ONTO THE GROUND LIKE ON NBA2K 11

. CROWD CHEERING AND PLAYERS GOAL CELEBRATING

. BETTER GRAPHICS OF PLAYERS

. HALF TIME SHOW

. SHOW WHEN YOU USE THEY SUBSUTIDE

Put your own music in like fifa

Build a relationship with the Premiership Coach makers and like make a dual game. PC side of it for career and games would be using the AFL live system. Imagine the possibilities... Have PC draft, managing etc. Simulation mode would be the PC sim, play match would be AFL Live gameplay. BigAnt need to make some connections to PC.

1. Career mode (as already mentioned)
2. Include TAC cup for draft class at the end of each season.
3. When handballing automatic lock on to player that you point the joystick at.
4. Make speed a greater factor, Sandilands should not be able to catch boomer harvey. Franklin should be able to burn defenders.
5. make some sort of evasion move, not just shrug tackle.
6. Change team lineup, screen (should be easy to change certain players. instead of the ridiculously tricky one)
7. Allow you to edit the positioning on the field e.g. make a 5 man forward line with an extra in the backline in front of a particular player.
8. I think at the moment the developers of the game should worry about the game play and career mode more so than the presentation of the game e.g. soundtrack, graphics (which aren't that bad), banners pre game etc.

i think that they should have fights and all the players run onto the field whn someone kicks there hundredth goal of the season

No way the AFL would allow fights in the game.

Can you imagine the framerate when you have thousands of people running onto the pitch?

It would be similar to FIFA not allowing diving in their game. As it is something that they don't want to be seen endorsing.

When I think about it, it's odd that the NFL franchise does so.

Being realistic here, i was pretty happy with the last game and would be psyched if there was the following in 2012:

Franchise/Career Mode
full stats accessable at any time!!! (i need to know how much rockliff is dominating by, all the time)
rotation minutes similar to that of 2k11/2k12 (would be nice but not essential)
better ai (given)
more replays / instant replay option!!!

while VFL/WAFL lists, new grounds, atmos would be good i agree with some previous posters that you need to improve the features that will improve the lasting gameplay.

Franchise mode and a better soundtrack is a must!

I feel that putting in state leagues and TAC cup might be too difficult for AFL, but i would love it!

Definitely need more crowd involvement and hopefully, more intresting commentary too

My suggestion is a more in depth tactical menu.

You should have structures you can choose/customize when the ball is in certain areas and depending on who is in possession/if it is loose.

For example ball is at mid-wing in your posession, you should be able to choose the basic strategy of your forwards (lead wide, push to CHF, switch option).

Another example. The opposition is in position and at their HFF your HBF. You should choose where the players that aren't locked to opponents go. Zone off, double team FF, approach ball carrier etc.

Customisable centre bounces would also be nice.

Bounce button. Players take years to bounce (no I'm not sprinting)

Should also be able to bounce while sprinting but there is a big chance it will spill free. Players like Sandilands would stuff it up almost every time while sprinting while players like Kerr have less chance of stuffing it up.

Work with the makers of premiership coach and make 1 awesome AFL game with manager/career mode, drafts, trading, unlockables (State teams, TAC cup, state leagues etc.), continuous clock count like the real AFL and the ability to choose the shorts for each team (Brisbane home - can choose maroon home shorts or white away shorts or West Coast Home - can choose navy home shorts or white away shorts).

The fighting in NHL games is an integral part, so much so that it is include in the in-game tutorial.

I thaught of a way of introducing the other leagues (VFL, NEAFL, WAFL etc.) to the game.

Maybe, Big Ant can create the teams as unlicenced teams such as in Pro Evolution Soccer which can be edited with ease (by this I mean you can create a team using this).

Eg.
Unlicenced teams (blue light not on map)

Editing teams
Part 1

Part 2

The strip editing will have to be similar though, with the ability to upload the jersey advertisments/logos

So, an example can be,
GWS Giants are licensed in the AFL but their reserves side can't be lisenced in the NEAFL so they will be known as Giants with some weired Giants logo.

eg.
mlb-SFgiants.gif

(the baceball logo will have to be changed to and AFL ball, but you get the idea :) )

If someone wants to create the GWS giants reserves, they can upload their logo (or select logo if avaliable) and upload the jersey (or use the jersey design if avaliable), change the name of the team to GWS Giants Reserves and your done.

At least you will have the AFL, VFL, NEAFL, TAC CUP, WAFL etc.

What do you think ?

:)

Seriously the biggest thing missing is good quality sound from the crowd.
If you are the interstate team and kick a goal you don't want to hear a massive roar the same same as the home team. Its just too fake. You should also include some team chants that the crowd sings out during the game. Another one is commentary.. damn it was bad.

Fixing the ridiculous player switching would be a good place to start. The number of times i try and select a player just ahead of the play and get dealt with someone 20 metres off to the side even though im using the thumbstick to change player is a joke. Makes it frustrating in tight games to try and set up a play. Must be fixed.

Also, 2v1 should make mention to that fact before proceeding. I hate playing against multiple people who just block you and run freely. I'd rather be told before pressing ready so I can back out.

I loved the 2010 AFL LIVE Game, too many people on here expect the game to be like NBA 2K12 and FIFA 12, Halftime show and having a cutscene with the coach on the screen. Really? Really? I reckon there should be a career mode, but even if that is you controlling a team from season to season that a great improvement. Also the AFL draft? Ross said numerous times that they can't do the draft as the player are not licensed yet (they have not been drafted to an AFL Club). I would be happy with this:

- Career mode (unlimited seasons or 10 or more)
- Sock height (I know they have already fixed that)
- Etihad stadium's roof being opened for day games. (If wicked witch can do this seriously big ant can!)
- Commentary (Update it! and maybe add some more commentary JB, Rex Hunt (i'm dreaming!), Jacko, Gerard Healy)
- They could do a team setup screen where you can put any position anywhere, for example you can move the CHF to the wing, If you do that the position name will be custom.
- Ruckman only contesting the ruck! (maybe some tall backman and forward player's if the ruck contest is in there respective 50's)
- Better Camera angle (This is a tough one, AFL is the best in the world because you can get hit from anywhere, Just asking for n improvement but know it is a tough one)
- Trade Week, Pre-Season Draft, Free-Agency (this will start next season so I don' really care about this)
- Player race on all ground are really good (I would like to see the team run from the player race and through the banner).
- Crowd atmosphere (This is simple home team losing crowd quiet, If there winning like collingwood supporters!)
- Different Marking animations.
- Set shot goalkicking (WHERE DO I START, I kick the ball as hard as i can with Jonathon Brown from 50, the ball just make's it, In REAL Life here can kick it 5 rows back into the crowd).

We buy these sport's games to enjoy them, BigAnt really good job on your first AFL game but there are some glaring things that need to be fixed. Most of them are small which show's why you made this game over 2 year's. All we ask is for an improvement. I have know doubt that you will work hard to make the AFL game series as realistic as possible.
