Okay found it it's in the green headphone link in the top right corner. Makes sense of course. Headphones for video :/
Well that's new. When I tried ten minutes ago the headphones didn't bring up anything but radio links.

Thanks though.

hey all,

i was about to sign up to the afl live pass as i have had foxtell cut off as im moving.

my question is... is it only accessible through phone or tablet??? i wanna watch it on a decent sized screen and the only device i have is an iphone... stuff that!

is it possible to watch it on my pc?

You can hook your PC up to your TV through HDMI.

For people wanting to watch it on computer / TV:

Computer: Download Bluestacks, load the AFL app onto it, log into your account and watch from there.
TV: Chromecast "Cast screen " feature works well. Doesn't lag or have audio issues, however the AFL streaming it in 480p means its...eh.

For the season I'll probably just fire up the VPN and get the overseas version for the higher definition.

Very disappointing this year. Mirroring through appletv is nowhere near the quality it was last year when you could stream direct as opposed to the mirroring. Not to mention the windowed type screen we have to view it through now. No $90 for you AFL. Certainly not going to go to foxtel - will just watch less and less footy I'd say. Hope this is what the AFL was aiming for when they did this.

$90 is worth it for Telstra customers just for mobile access tbh. Even if the Apple tv view is poor.

Yeah mobile access is probably not too bad, but for those of us that don't want to be forced into Foxtel and use it to watch footy that isn't on free to air the quality is very poor this year.

I was extremely happy last year and will give praise when it's due, as it was last year, but this year I'm afraid it's pretty appalling quality on a TV IMO.

Clearly a ploy to get people to subscribe to Foxtel which is my main gripe.

I'm one of those people. The sooner the Netflix type subscription services and a proper AFL pass (like NBA & NFL) arrive, causing Foxtel to take a back seat, the better.

are u able to explain the computer process in more depth?? im struggling'

I subscribed last year and hooked my S5 up to my 50 inch when the blues were on pay TV and got a decent picture. Watched most of the neutral games on my phone and was happy with the quality. 90 bucks for every game for the season is definitely worth it for the average footy fan.

Certainly.
  1. Download Bluestacks. This is an android emulator which lets you load android apps on your computer. Even if you don't have an android phone, it doesn't matter, you just need this to run the android version of the app and log in with your AFL account.
  2. Download the AFL app apk. Note: I've given you the google search because I don't want to direct you towards any one. You'll have to look through and find one you're comfortable isn't malicious.
  3. Open Bluestacks, load the APK file
  4. Log in to your AFL account
  5. Watch football
Edit: Good to see you got it.

Can I have some vpn tips please, whats the quality like on it too? Cheers

So does anyone know what the actual resolution of the AFL Live stream is? Is it 480p?

I just checked and the download streaming options are 400/800/3064 kbs.

That effects the stream video quality. As for what they upload it as, the best vision I've seen thru my laptop -> HDMI to my TV was like a 1080p quality stream. It was great.

TOTALLY depend on the interest stream too.

But beware, the overseas stream is buffered by 25 secs for their DVR feature which massacres the synch of video and live radio if you hate the TV audio call of the game.

GO Catters

I really like the AFL live thing but loathe that it is only available on phone or tablet. I still watched Dees away games on my phone last year but it made a generally horrible experience even worse...

At least on the smaller screen the missed kicks dont look as bad

My mate invited me over to watch a Foxtel game last year, had this on Apple Tv from his iPad or something and it was like a Commodore 64 game.

The things peope will do to save a buck when you can get Foxtel in glorious HD for $48 a mth.

So I cancelled the AFL live subscription and signed up for the two week trial Foxtel Play through my ps4 last night. Watched the NAB cup game - it was perfectly fine. No HD unfortunately but the picture quality looked like stock standard 480p SD. It's still a good option if you can't get proper foxtel at your building (like me). Just have to go to the pub for games in HD I guess

No lag on the audio from what I can tell, although I only had it on for about an hour or so
