AFL Media Awards - Wallsy the best?

The Hutchy and Footy Classified wins would confirm that 'foot-in-the-door' sleaze is looked upon favourably by the judges

It's like the Grammys , they are awards for whoever sells the most to either under 15's or over 45's not really a reflection of who is influential, respected and era -defining.

i think it is fair to say ch7 have the worst 2 in Watson and Schwartz...watching Leigh Matthews work with them during the Pies v Eagles game just highlighted how poor they actually are, the day Matthews retires from coaching he will have every TV network lined up at his door

It was fun watching Lethal at the half time panel waiting for Tim Watson to draw breath so he could jump in and shut him up. I thought "one member of this panel is a four time premiership coach, there other fell flat on his backside and headed back to the media". Almost as funny as the Age's finals analysis last year, where hack ex-coaches like Tony Shaw explained how would coach the respective finals teams (assuming they could get them there in the first place).

Terrific players, lousy coaches and even lousier commentators.

as soon as i saw walls i stopped reading. what a ****ing farce. clinton grybas anyone?

ELECTRONIC
MOST OUTSTANDING SPECIAL COMMENTATOR - Robert Walls, Network Ten

Is this any type of electronic? Because several of the special commentators on radio would be way ahead of any of the TV special comments guys. Stan Alves is so far ahead of Walls its not funny.

The Australian Football Media Association has declared Robert Walls the winner of the 2007 Alf Brown Trophy for the Most Outstanding Media Contribution over the past 12 months.

Walls was named the Most Outstanding Special Commentator in the electronic category and the Most Outstanding Columnist for his print work.

The judging panel lauded Walls as the pre-eminent opinion maker in the football media. Provocative, thoughtful, strong willed and unflinching whether he is writing for The Age or speaking on Channel Ten, Fox Sports or 3AW in match situations or studio discussion he is compelling whether you agree with his opinion of not.

The AFMA also inducted four life members: Photographer Bruce Howard and broadcasters Don Hyde , Clarke Hansen and Dennis Cometti - who also won a sixth consecutive television calling award.

The AFMA player of the year was announced as Gary Ablett of Geelong.

Congrats to Dennis Cometti...he is a deserved winner of his award AGAIN.

The only announcers who hold a candle to him is Tim Lane, Huddo, Grybas.

However Huddo and Grybas need to develop a bit more depth in their commentary to surpass big Den.

I do miss Brayshaw from TV calling.

As for Walls being the best special comments man...yuck.
