I was just thinking of inventing the wheel. Any suggestions?

AFL monopoly has been done, and it will probably be done again but you won't get a look in when it comes to licensing. So I hope you are just doing this for your own amusement.

Players would work better I think. You could have it like a manager trying to pick up players.
