Interesting chat on sen today. I've been thinking for a while, why do the afl continually bow down to the aflpa, it's ridiculous how much leave these guys get, then they complain about a long season and they don't even have to play any rep footy.

Convenient that they used North as the example in the article. Sydney and Brisbane's seasons went 5 weeks longer and start one week earlier.

If you mandate that clubs not playing finals return earlier than teams that did, would that be better, or would it be too much of an unfair advantage?

Getting more leave when I do my job badly. Sounds somehow convenient. I need to talk to my boss...

15 weeks is still not good enough for Dangerfield though, he's just started campaigning again for less game time so I'm sure it won't be long now until he starts bleeting on about shortening the season again to 17 rounds as he has in the past on numerous occasions.

Danger is absolutely insufferable. Not sure there's ever been a bloke so out of touch with the general public in a position he holds.

Now he's banging on about reducing game time and with it the argument that the less they play the more money they should get b/c supply and demand and all that. Dangerfiled is the most pretentious smug prick in the league who just shits me to tears

Remember the afl were gonna put him on the commission till the clubs kicked off. Like a current player. It just shows how out of touch the commission is with Mr invisible Richard Goyder as the leader, now going into his 9th year as chairman.

Farcical that Goyder is even on the commission given his dodgy white collar antics. Up there with teflon Sayers with out the dick picks.

Using North who didnt make finals as an example, lol. Preseason is shorter, because the season used to start in April. Dangerfields dumb twitter comments doesn't mean he's shortened the pre season.

Are there really more PS injuries than normal? The Eagles had like a dozen a few years ago.

It just reeks of Clickbait Cornes making up shit to distract for his beloved Kenny and the fact their Cornes-coached forward line is now in the shit because of one injury.

It would be better.

ATM clubs playing finals get more weeks to train and develop.

A 1st year player at a non finals team currently has 5 weeks less contact with the club to train and develop.

That is not an equal playing field and a bad AFL policy.

Need to be careful with what Kane and co said. As journeys do they used the worse examples they could imagine.

Senior players often return to the club and train earlier than needed. That is reported at every club every preseason.

They work basically 6-7 days a week during the season though. It’s still a great job compared to 99% of the rest of them but down time when no footy is on should be fine.

If they’re going to be made to work more they should be getting farmed out to schools/clinics rather than just being at the club running laps for an extra couple of weeks.

Could be a week or two period where the whole afl is out at schools everyday.

9200 primary schools in Australia
1350 players in the comp (including women’s lists)

3 men, 2 women from each team to a school. Could get round to each school in 2 weeks.

I thought this too, help grow the game.

The W players get paid an annual salary too these days, they should be doubling as afl development offices for a couple of months per year. The majority don't work these days coz the salaries are high enough for 20 something's to sit back and relax the other 9 months of the year.

That is unlikely to happen unless we get another virus outbreak.

It's already February 1st and AFL season starts in 5 weeks

It’s ok in theory, doesn’t work so much in practice, they’re off over summer which isn’t exactly footy clinic or school period.

The reality is they work a seasonal job. It is not year-round. Cornes and co can bitch all they like about it but that’s the facts. There’s no law anywhere that says somebody has to work 12 months per year. Cornes is just plucking on a cheap banjo to try to get regular working folk angry and clicky about that fact their jobs require them to work their arses off 11 months per year, while others don’t.

Dangerfield and Pendlebury’s end goal is 12 minute quarters like their beloved basketball. 17 games a season with 5 byes to make up 22 rounds

Kornes and Edmund struggling for 'content' in the off season is the real motivation for their whinge.
