AFL Players vote Hodge v Judd - The verdict is in

Happy with who we have.

Judd was an exceptional player, however at a young age it appears his best is past him, yet Hodge continues to take massive strides and according to the very realiable champ data stats, was the second best player in the comp this year.

We're a very happy team at HAWTHORN.

Please show us this stat?

According to the AFL players he still is.

Lets not forget the guy did virtually no preseason !!!

Two totally different players

Hodge is the quintessential Quater back who doesnt need to man up because he is always where the ball is.

Judd - is quick and damaging with his possession from the centre and can pop up with a few goals when required.

Masten (#3 pick last years draft) will be a gifted midfielder and will rise to the level that Gibbs will over time.

Ball - constantly injured but fearless, corageous, and skillfull with fantastic leadership abilities.

All clubs are happy with their picks, shall we move on now?

Yeah but a pretty silly to compare previous years of Judd since Selwood is only in his second year lol

So by this logic we can't compare Selwood to any players achievements prior to Selwood starting? In other words, every brownlow, premiership, all australian, coleman etc won prior to 2007 (the year Selwood started) is irrelevant when making a comparison with Selwood?

Correct me if I have mis-interpreted your post.

Meh, doesn't change the fact that Hodge is the better player. What did Carlton finish, 11th? Yeah, real good, judd.

AFL Players in one corner voting for Judd vs Hodgepodge and 2 or 3 dawks big footy NOOBs in the other voting for Chubby.

Ok I agree it is clear Hodge is better LOL!!!

it's still endless fun engaging the whorethorn fans in this debate which they will never, ever win.

hodge plays the easiest, softest, most flattering position in the game (loose man in defense).

yes he can pull off some nice wormburners on his trusty left, but his disposal on his non-preferred foot would be amongst the worst in the league.

he is without question slow across the field by AFL standards.

he is unaccountable, and often has to be protected matchup-wise in the backline.

and let's not forget he has a tendancy to turn in woeful performances in big games, particularly against top opposition. his decision making and skill execution is highly questionable under pressure.

without doubt, one of the hawks weak links as the finals progress.

I'm not sure if this was ever explained to you, but the Leader Board refers to the players who have received the most votes.
They don't put every name on the Leader Board, which is the main reason why it gets its name.

Hodge actually received a final tally 47 votes, which is nine more than Fevola got from his peers (and 52 less than 99)

Judd received a total of 140 votes, which is 568 less than Franklin

Not bad for a guy who gets paid over $1 million per season and skippered his side into 11th place.

Enjoy September, you flog.

Players who hang around the half back flank & pick up the easy kicks get plenty of points. Thats where Hodge got so many points.
He is a bit like the skilful unaccountable Bowden.
Players who get the hard ball like Judd are under pressure & therefore have more possessions that lose them points.
Hodge great half back flanker who gets easy uncontested possies.
Judd who gets hard balls.

Solid numbers no doubt, but averages are only part of the story.

If you look at his total he's nowhere near the top, because he missed 5 games - nearly a quarter of the home and away season. Through a love of dirtiness.

So yeah, he does his job pretty well, but he's nowhere near the top of the tree in terms of the most valuable players in the league. As the blokes who actually play the game attest.

Only got 16 touches on the weekend, but still got the 118 points due to the quality. And lots of contested marks and possessions in those too.

He's missed 3 games through injury, 2 through suspension. Averages are where its at though. (if you play a certain minimum of games.)

The blokes who played the game attest that he is as important to Hawthorn as Lance Franklin is.
