I recently purchased the Official PS2 magazine and read through the review they had on AFL 2005.

Paul Frew was the man who wrote the review and he gave it 8/10
He stated the downside was very basic player models, but thats no big deal as yet, its much more important to get the gameplay right first thing, then add in more detail over time ....

Anyway, basically said the game controls are a lot more intuitive and responsive then previous versions, no real time delay in button bashing as in the older versions he felt, which creates a faster slicker game.

He gave one interesting insight into how the game works ... 0 will tackle but holding R1 and pressing the 0 button will have a player do an AGGRESSIVE tackle ... which apparently is more likely to make the ball spill free and/or injure the opponent.

He said overall it was without doubt the best AFL game of yet thus far, but still with work to be done of cause.

That other internet review worries me a bit ... the team rankings with Collingwood ranked highest
And i did notice in AFL 2004 i could kick like 40.3 which was ridiculously too easy to snag goals from anywhere, hopefully this is no longer the case,
But the PS2 review stated also bumping which can be done, will push players off balance and there kick offline.

Hopefully these things arnt an issue when the full game is finally out

IS IT ON PC? ARGH

hopefully it is hard to score goals from a set shot.

there should be a little bar like in AFL 99 that takes some skill atleast and even then...if you are kicking with a ********e player it should be ********e hard to kick a goal and still hard to kick one with a Lloyd or a Green just so we have a challenge

I asked the Sony this question

Do you have any idea why this game might be getting delayed again???

It was meant to out July 31... then it was August 25... then it was
September 8... now on the PS2 website it says the 22nd

What is going on?

I got a reply 2 days later and that said

Dear Jason,

Unfortunately as the game is still currently going through the finishing touches the official release date is still not confirmed, if you visit our website it mentions for a release in September but still to be considered. Please visit our website for more information regarding the release of this title.

Nothing has been announced at this point for an AFL 2006.

I think we all agree the release timing is shocking however im sure we would all rather a game that has had all the little touch ups rather than like the other version with annoying bugs.

Scrap AFL Premiership 2005

Bring out AFL Premiership 2006 - March 2006

Startest thing they would have done. Database is all that needs fixing (and maybe wizard rules). Obviously the Gameplay and Graphics are done. The Database is all, and teams will be finalised by December, unless somebody passes away like Troy Broadbridge did. It is only a computer game, cmon SONY.

Theres a group of scores in a number of areas for each team, followed by a total/average score. In the review build we played, no team got a higher total rating than Collingwood, who managed a miserly 67. Carlton was the only team in the sub 60 club, with a rating of 59. Cmon IR Gurus, these are some of the finest athletes in the land, not a bunch of mugs playing in the local corporate challenge. Let's have some real variance in the team scores... throw out a couple of 90+ teams (starting with the mighty Hawks), and put the also rans in the late 60s. They're still professional sportspeople!
Would this be for real? This is from that mostly negative review at GamesArena.

Is this is a case, what a farce! Surely the likes of Port, Brisbane, St.Kilda and Geelong deserved to be rated much higher than Collingwood. If the above is true, the game is doomed from the outset. Hopefully, at the time this guy wrote the review, it wasn't the completed "build" of the game.

i agree. but, its my dad whos buyin it 4 me so i will just get both.

With the trade and create a player ability, like NFL and Fifa, game will be a 10 year dynatsy game.
So even after trades and draft, you will be able to up date your team's lists.

Well this is what all the info about the game is saying.

Also checkout this review.
Doesn't sound too good does it!!

Yeah I agree, he wrote review late August,
maybe Igrurs and Sony based Collingwood on 2003, even then the didn't match Lions and Port.
