Southport have that air of professionalism back, this week will be a cracker against Mt Gravatt.

Have seen the magpies twice in recent weeks, observations:

They keep trying from start to finish no other solution just need a number of class players.

Coaching box should spend more time coaching less time umpiring, ( if you keep yelling ball you are probably second to it.)

All roads lead to Southport this week.Hope Matt Payne realises the early start.Last time Sharks had early game he was still in Brisbane while their team meeting was being held, forgetting he had early start due to Vfl game.See you out there Matthew

Will be very surprised if Magpies still in the comp next year.Very ordinary. They did have one extra year to prepare for entry while still in the Pineapple Cup 3 years ago.

We should start talking about Aspley again as they are now sitting in 8th spot:heart:.

True legend of the game

How was MCG last night Roadkill.Your beloved Bombers Roadkilled by Navy Blues

All the way down their to watch Waite run free in the forward line for the first two qtrs - No-one played on him at all.
Carlton run far to hard and didn't allow Essendon any room.

No excuses but then again Carlton will only play one final and bounce back into the famous Carlton cruise liner chugging down the Yarra!!

There are major concerns for the Magpies if they are dumped back to the Pineapple cup - their present playing list will be decimated with the very good players obviously being picked up other clubs still in the State League. Someone should give them plenty of notice if that is going to happen.
The standard of the Pineapple cup I believe has significantly improved since they were last in it and they may struggle to beat the 4 top clubs !!

Bombers get a weeks start on them by missing finals.Great atmosphere at the G and Ratten outcoached Knights, ala Robinson on Fletcher(if he was out there)

I agree Chikka - a very well thought out match up (in hindsight at least). I'm surprised Fletcher didn't have the experience to get over the young fella.

In any case, you gotta love a good old fashioned ranga-tangle!

The atmosphere at the ground was very subdued so I don't know where you were.

There was only 57000 their, the whole top tier was empty. It was really disappointing as I tthought there would have been 70 to 80000.

The TV didn't show but Fletcher kept getting caught in 2 minds as whether to go with Robinson or drop back onto Waite when the ball was coming in. Yes Ratten did outcoach Knights and I have no idea where Knights dropped the extra man from the back line.

I see that Aspley have just appointed Evans for next year:):thumbsu:

Is there any word on how bad Brent Evens knee is??

Haven't heard regarding the knee, only what's on the net.
Was just rugged up on the couch but atmosphere sounded electric every time Carlton kicked a goal, which happened numerous occasions in last qtr.
Evans has Aspley up and running and good on them, hope he is left alone to do what he is doing(ala previous problems).Am hoping Vultures beat Southport this week and in a intriging contest then Aspley to roll Sharks at Aspley in last round and Panthers to beat Magpies(close one) and Redlands to finish 2nd and get home final.
Labrador will do it tough in Darwin this week as Oddball will be in Thunders box and ThunderDoc will not.

Internet says Nathan Gilliand from Mt gravatt has a broken wrist after being Blindsided off the ball.Must be kama from what happend off the week before when Panther players flattened 100m away from the ball by certain Vulture snipers

It is a certainty in any game that Mt Gravatt play. Someone will be sniped off the ball and when they are not expecting it. Furfaro, Tarrant, Cleary all good for it. Interesting that no lesson learnt after last years grand final, they could and probably should have won it by playing good hard football, but the hot-heads cannot help themsleves. Anyway all the more interesting this year.

Who are your picks for the following:

Syd Guildford:
Grogan:
Premiership:
Runners Up:
Joe Grant:
Mt Gravatt player most likely to get suspended in the finals:

Chikka,

Are we talking seniors or reserves with this comment? The word I got from Vulture Land was that Bonney, Abbey and go where taking dives when ever Tommy T. ran past them, away from that it is a shame to see such a great ball player as per the ilke of Gilliland to end up with that type of injury at this time of the season is a disappointment for all footy followers, no matter who they plays with, I hope for his sake he can get back on the Vulture train to play one more game this season the most important one, you might just get your karma back Chikka if he lines up against the Sidder divers in the second last Sunday in September: Just remember you have to be tough to play tough and the rear veiw mirrors those boys will be playing with this time round might just get in their way.

very sad to see a footballer and individual such as Nathan Gilliland injured at this time of the year. Highly unlikely he will play again this year if he indeed has a fractured scaphoid. He will be sorely missed by the Vultures
Also of note was a nasty knee injury to Brent Evans on the weekend
Hope all goes well for Gilly and Brent's recoveries.

Talking seniors. The 2s game between the 2 clubs was a fantastic contest.Agree it is a disappointment if Gilliland misses finals as everyone wants to see the best of the best out there. And he is Vultures best with Ash Evans a close 2nd.Both teams have to make the big one first,Sharks and Labrador will be hard to beat as well.

They won't this year either. Cameron Illett won't poll well with the umpires as he hardly ever gets a free kick. He goes hard at the ball and repeatedly has high contact made on him and rarely gets rewarded.

Umpires don't rate him but the rest of the comp do.
If though he is ineligible I don't think he would score that heavily, Syd Guilford is a different matter, although from what I hear he probably hasn't polled a vote since they stopped publishing the votes.

Anyone know what the structure of the Comp will be next year. I read yesterday in the paper that there will be two conferences, North (Lions, GC, NT and Stronger AFLQ sides) and a similar southern conference (Swans, GWS, Canberra sides etc) Surely at this stage of the year someone must have some idea what will happen? Northern conference sounds like it is just this years comp plus GC and they will prob take one out (wonder who? Pies?) Not really ground breaking stuff. How will it be different? If magpies go down a division will their club survive? (hurt the eagles obviously) Surely someone in the know like Chikka or Oddball who have knowledge on inside workings of clubs will know where their clubs stand?

They will not catch me in the Grogan.

I would not worry about the Grogan Medal too much Vulture Dude, just dont let the others catch you on the field, the Grogan will take care of its self, as at the moment our umpires are flat out getting their desicions right, let alone the 3, 2 & 1 votes for the best and fairest player!!!!

The Grogan medalist again this year will be a mid fielder who flashes pass them on many occasions and who doesn't answer back to their descisions, Sheehan, Holman and Wise always seem to get in those spots and could be a rough chance to take it out. The big one to have on the mantle piece is the Syd G, at least it is decided by a group imparcial addudicators - most of the time.

Sweetie,

After last week you would be tossing up between the Magpies and the Lions to drop back to Pineapple Cup, the magpies have a good ground, a good coach and lots of youth, they just dont know how to win a game at the moment. Thorpie must be pulling his hair out getting these young charges to play smart football, from what I have seen they are like the the bees around the honey pot all trying to get the footy without using the usual set structures to have one ball getter and two or three others swetting off the contest to crumb the ball in dispute, I am sure they will be educated to this type of structure in time but is that time running out? They need a couple of key position players to strenghten up their goal to goal line and with the youth they have in time I am sure they will click.

the Lions on the other hand were very ordinary on Sunday, no real structure no game plan to speak of and know one standing tall to stamp their mark on the game, it is easy to say they only had 13 listed players with 10 top ups, but from what I saw the top ups where having more of a crack than the big boys and to me that is a problem for their future. The recruting staff at the Lions will have a big job this year working out who can play and who cant if their reserves are going to be competitive, if the new Northern Conference goes ahead, especially when I read that the GC-Suns will have 52 players on their list for next year and I dont think there will be too many passengers amongst them??????

The top five teams are super competitive and will handle all comers, with the balance of the teams in the State League who seem to be competitive on any given day with the Cats to maybe struggle when the GC-Suns boys dont fall back to prop them up with quality next year.

An interesting year ahead for all.

No one knows how exactly this is all going to pan out.Hearing different versions every day but will not no until it is all official.

Seems like you dont get to far over the Logan River HTF, gee you would be a good in an advertisment for the GC-Suns they think they are the new big thing in the AFL to be, build a bridge and get over it you tulip, the real AFL Football is played in Brisbane the only reason the Gold Coast sides get a run is because they have plenty of southern money to waste on big name recruits and spend their full salary cap on these tourists while being humbled by the powerhouse Clubs of Brisbane in the AFLQ, who's sides may I add have players of quality that play for the jumper and not the $$$$$$$$. When you are on the top of the hill the biggest fall hurts the most. Remember 2009 loser.

Snorkle, I dont believe we have met, but loser is a big call to say you don't even know me. I think you may have mistaken me for a Southport supporter, this could not be further from the truth. This is a forum, my understanding is this is a place where people share there views and thoughts. Given there are two Gold Coast sides that are 1 and 2 at the moment I thought my predictions would seem reasonable given the current standings and the polling prior to the AFLQ web site taking this off line. Now on your point about Brisbane, Brisbane is my home town, but the competition is called QAFL not BAFL, and there is already a bridge at Logan so therefore there is no need for me to build one. On your point about Brisbane clubs, had Gilliland not been reported as not playing again this year through injury my tip would have been Mt Gravatt for the flag and Gilliland for Grogan, but I think wise will win it as I think the votes will come down to the last few rounds. I take your point regarding some clubs spending $$$ over the salary cap, but my club is not one of those and I dont condone clubs cheating by paying more than the salary cap . My club has been the laughing stock of the league since it came into the comp in 1997, we were on the bones of our bum in the early 2000's because we could not compete with more wealthier clubs 1klm from our ground and we are this year enjoying moderate success on top of the ladder and I believe that the club has the ability to go all the way, hence my prediction for the flag. I hope that makes things a little clearer mr snorkle. These are my views and thats why it is called a forum, I don't expect everyone to agree.

No one knows how exactly this is all going to pan out.Hearing different versions every day but will not no until it is all official.

G'Day Chikka thought you might be interested in this story. I was listening to SEN from Melbourne on Monday night and this story came up.

Unbelievable but not the record.

TRUE to his word, four-time Central District premiership player Quinton Graham reached the magical 100-goals for Gumeracha on Saturday.
He kicked 40.15 - and one out on the full - against Hills Football League battler Callington to send officials scurrying to the record books.

It came one week after he threatened to do so when interviewed on stage at Central District's 2000 premiership reunion.

``I knew I was close to 100 and said I was hoping to kick 30,'' he said.

``It's funny because I got 10 more.''

The 30-year-old was on 62 goals heading into the game and had 14 at half-time.

He then followed it with bags of 13.10 and 13.3 in the final two quarters as Gumeracha won 75.37 (487) to 0.0.

``I got 38 and that was my hundred then I went into the ruck,'' Graham said.

``Then they came on and said `you're equal with the record, go back to full forward'.''

He said kicking 40 in a day meant more than kicking 100 in the whole season.

The record is by Doug Ensor who kick 60 out of the team score of 69 goals. That season he kicked 208 for Noble Park - He was 14 years old in 1969.
