Re: AFL Round 1: Hawthorn v Geelong - 27th March 2009

we tip our hats to you, tuck our tails between our legs, back away slowly, concede 2009, withdraw ourselves from the competition and then begin an un-precedented era of VFL domination.

Let's not be dramatic - let's face facts. If Geelong lose the first round they'll have a year like Port did in 2008, most likely.

As Bomba has so eloquently put it, you're gonna cop a good old fashion smacking and regret you ever had the audacity to steal a cup that was rightfully ours. :thumbsu:
It was there for the taking! What happened??? Don't you just love SORE Losers!! Get over it! WE have the CUP, WE were the 2008 PREMIERS.. Look at your team,& blame them, I don't care if you win every game this year, it counts for @#$% come GF day!!I would rather lose 5 matches throughout the year, and win GF day, ANY DAY!!!
IF you were so good, why didn't you win? We were the walking wounded, and we STILL beat you!! You must still be licking your wounds...It will be a small consolation if you do beat us next week, it will mean nothing in the context of the year..Why blame us, when it was YOUR team that lost..Time they took some blame..IF they were so good, they should have won!!
The problem was that they thought they were SO good, they could just go out there and they would win!WRONG! Any team that does that are doomed from the start. They were shell shocked at half time..as they were at the end..Simply put, it's called OVER CONFIDENT!! Maybe they learnt their lesson..They were bought down to earth by the Hawks..

I know this is your board so I've gotta mind my manners but I'm here to politely tell that you're dreaming. Hate to break it to ya but if any team is danger of repeating a Port 2008 in '09 it's hawthorn.

If you don't win sufficient games in the opening 10 rounds or so (supposedly a possibility because you're missing some key players due to injury) of the season your team may fall in a ditch it may never be able to recover from.

This season should reveal all. Our players seemed overly content with themselves coming into September. It was as if they almost expected the Cup to fall on their laps.

I doubt that mistake will be made again in this year's Finals series, severe retribution will most certainly be dished out.

Re: AFL Round 1: Hawthorn v Geelong - 27th March 2009

It won't happen to Geelong or Hawthorn.
I can see alot of Hawks vs Cats grand finals in the next 10 years.
But to call geelong the supierior team out of the two is absolute B.S though.
Hello? We won the Grand Final!

So what if geelong won the NAB Cup. Many people were saying St.Kilda were the best team in the comp after they won the NAB Cup last year

Wishfull thinking and fantasy. Dream on!

As if.

The 'underdone' sentiment to our pre-season has been so overstated too - the majority of our team have completed and improved over the summer. Round 1 we will have a really competitive team and hopefully within the first month of the H&A season we will have close to a full team to choose from.

If McGlynn ws fit would he be in your best 22..or is someone like travis tuck ahead of him?
Seems McGlynn was the first choice to fill the hole left by Crawf, but Tuck has had a great pre-season.

I think McGlynn has a foot injury atm, but I think he would be in our best 22 - probably rotating through the midfield and off the half-forward line.

Opportunities are becoming more slim each year. Players like Tuck, McGlynn, Morton, Kennedy will all be fighting for similiar positions. I think it will come down to who can make the most of the time they have when granted the opportunity.

When was the last time the reigning premier started $2.65 in round 1 of the following season?

Hawks are the best value you will see all year this Friday - get on.

Other than Croad who leaves a big structural hole, the other outs might be in the best 22 players but they are not critical to the hawks structure. Hopefully Gilham plays.

The cats have a few out as well including their captain.

The hawks will come out to play this week - cannot wait.

Dooooooooooods...good luck for round 1. Mind u i say that to everyone and dont really mean it but hey.

Looking for a heads up on whther Mitch Thorp has been disappointing or injured...have hardly heard his name mentioned but saw him run around looking a little average in a practice game.

Is he even close to a spot coz of injuries ? My dreamteam thanks you in advance and cant find a suitable thread in here.

Loving your name mate :thumbsu:

Thanks champ.

Had it since I joined, originally thought of it as a bit of a pisstake on Shannon Noll who bandies it around a fair bit, but did like the statement and it's effect.

S'pose I've lost it to Crawf forever now.:thumbsu:

Ms/Mrs/Mr randyzany..... whoever you maybe .....let's not forget who choked on GF day....let me see.... was it mooney ? was it taylor..? was it harley, was it the geelong football club ? the questions are endless!
You guys are the ones under pressure.... sure we may lose this one...or maybe not. I personally don't think that we have anything to prove on day 1.... it's all up to you....bring it on:rolleyes:

Geelong dont need to prove how good they are as a team.. everybody knows they are a good team!! its hawthorn that need to prove to everyone that they are a champion team and didnt just have a day out!! and cant back up with more results!!
can they handle the pressure of being the hunted this year!!!??

All Geelong has proven is they are mentally weak on the big occasions. Win this week and you have beaten an injury savaged and underdone opponent - you can only beat who we put up against you and a win's a win - but still, we're not playing for sheep stations yet. There is no redemption.

But just say we beat you? Then I'd have to say those mental scars run so deep, they'll never be healed and you will be forever our bitches - this generation anyhow.

Geelong has much to prove.

Might I remind you who won the GF last year. Or could I get you to answer that question for me??

It has got me stuffed how many ppl think that geelong just had a bad day, GF day last year. What a load of rubbish!! They thought they would rock up and just win it, they forgot 1 thing though.......The Hawthorn FC.

I am over the arrogance of Mark Thompson and the GFC. They proved that in the GF last year. Stokes on Hodge, hahaha what an absolute joke. Arrogance will get them no where. Dont worry about Hawthorn, we will be there when it counts!!!!!
