5 - Lonergan - Franklin had two goals within 90 seconds, Domsy moves to him and in the remaining 118 minutes Franklin had two possessions inside 50, one being a dinky little half a metre handball.
Lonners totally destroyed Franklin, consistently beating him in contests and it went a long way to winning the game.

4 - Chapman - His goals from outside 50 were vital early, as were his strong marks on the wing in front of the MCC in the last quarter.
As usual, Chappy was a rock all day and played a major role in the win.

3 - Ottens - Treated the Hawthorn rucks with comtempt, getting his hand on the ball in meaningful ways many times throughout, often giving our midfielders silver service in what was a tough, hard, congested situation at most stoppages.

2 - Varcoe - Like many others he had an awfully slow start but he worked himself into the game and broke it open in the third quarter with a number of key runs, slicks hands and superb defensive pressure.
The first goal alone was worth a vote.

1 - Scarlett Consistently broke up Hawthorn attacks with his amazing ability to read the flight of the ball, whilst in the second half he also got right up the ground to provide an option.
His use of the ball was, as always, vital in taking the heat out of a situation and creating opportunities up the ground.

So hard this week. About a dozen blokes unlucky to miss out.

Very hard too decide who to leave out of the top 5, and how to order those in the 5, there were so many excellent contributions. But in the end I went for:

5. Chappy
4. Taylor
3. Bartel
2. Scarlett
1. Selwood

And I would've liked to give votes to Lonergan, Ottens, Varcoe for his 2nd half, and Duncan.
