I’m looking to become an AFL member for this year so I just have a couple of questions (sorry if they seem stupid) is there a joining fee on top of buying an afl membership and can you just buy a silver membership or is only bronze at first?
Cheers

There is a joining fee, don't know what it is off the top of my head. You can go straight to silver :thumbsu:

Joining fee is about $200-$250 from memory? On top of the $450-$500 annual membership fee

Have a look at the website it's on there I'm sure

first year will cost you $600 for an adult Silver (including the joining fee) https://membership.afl.com.au/become-member-0

next year will cost you $455 if they don't put the price up

Weren't they gonna crack down on reselling tickets in the reserve this year? Heaps of them available and already sold on ebay well above face value

Out of interest I had a look on Ticketmaster at seat costs for AFL members at the new Perth Stadium for the Eagles round 1.
Looks like if you enter your barcode you get $35 off the ticket prices (ie: $55 seat costs $20), more generous than I was expecting and it didn't matter that it wasn't my club of support either.

Tried round 2 Freo game and the discount was less and seemed to range from something like $12 to $25 depending on which category of seat you selected. The seats for the Freo game however were cheaper to begin with, especially on level 1.

Expecting a circus this morning

Edit: Nope, painless for Anzac Day tickets

9:01am and best available for ANZAC Day is Middle back on Level 4

What BS

Did that for me too. Decided to get tickets for Richmond game, then went back and tried Anzac Day. All good after that. People release tickets that are in their carts constantly, you need to keep trying.

It was telling me Level 4. Ended up getting Level 1.

You were lucky! I tried several times but always Level 4.
The Ticketek system was getting slower and slower each time so I just settled for Level 4 Row S.
Not great but we are there! (And not as stressful as last year!)

I got Level 4 about 15 times. But I selected Level 1 after coming back to it after getting tickets to other games.

I also only wanted 2 tickets.

Weird. I tried to see if AFL Member can get tickets to Perth game of Fremantle v Carlton and looks like I can and normal booking fee price also.

Weirder though, try to see what AFL membership gets you for game in Victoria of Geelong v Carlton and no entitlement rights to purchase tickets. So I can at a game across the country but ****ing Sleepy Hollow live in a world of their own where only Geelong members have entitlements to access tickets. I expected I could get tickets there but pay full price. Apparently you cannot.

Geelong club support probably can.

Geelong club support probably can.

Yes, I am sure they can because they are a member of the club whose home game it is.
But it is weird how Fremantle home game in Perth I can reserve a seat for under $10 through putting in my AFL membership card bar code. You not allowed at Geelong. AFL membership must have some reciprocal rights at new Perth Stadium.

There are heaps of tickets available to that game, you don't need any member bar code. Just click on the non member button on the website.

See a few posts up, I tried the new Perth stadium too and was surprised that it was giving discounts for non club of support members. Not sure if this is a mistake or not. I guess there are hardly any AFL members in Perth and not many would travel over there for games, so probably a ploy to get more people from Perth to join up.

I doubt it is a ploy. Just must have been a minor condition to the stadium not mentioned anywhere before as it would be so few of us that would use it. There is probably some reciprocal rights coming back other way. Example, a premium season ticket holder at stadium over there probably gets access to tickets at MCG here at discount price too.

and yes, I know I can find tickets to Geelong v Carlton game. It showed prices for reserves seats at $45 or more. That was after I gave up trying to access reserve seats prices as an AFL member with barcode. I was just checking if there was anyway of getting ticket discounts as an AFL member and it does not even accept the bar codes at all. You can only get tickets through general public. You cannot even reserve a seat at full price through your AFL membership. I suspect at every other ground in every other city you can. I am sure I did for game at SCG a decade ago. Certainly did at Football Park years ago and the one time I was in Perth I was able to access tickets through AFL membership card shown. You still paid to get in but in most cases it was a discount price or you getting seat in a good area for general admission price. There is no rights at Geelong ground at all. Slightly surprised but it is Sleepy Hollow so guess I should not have been surprised as I was this morning.
