AFL CHIEF operating officer Gillon McLachlan today announced the AFL had agreed to a new and exclusive deal with ESPN for its broadcast rights into the United Kingdom and Ireland for the remainder of 2009 through to the end of the 2011 AFL season......

Three games a week for the rest of the season but only five finals.

Starting with Carlton - Geelong next Friday.

Nice and quick work by the AFL to patch up from the Setanta crapout.

UK bitches will see more live footy than we do.

ESPN is more accesable to people then setanta, is it now? setanta going bust is probably looking like a good thing in hindsight...

ESPN, ESPN HD, and ESPN Classic just started broadcasting on Monday on both Sky and Virgin. Its being shown free for the first month on Virgin to entice people to get the sports package.

ESPN is pretty much the same as setanta, though Setanta did show the games live... and it seems ESPN ill be showning them with delays.... (coll vs adelaide something like 14hrs later)....

I prefer the internet option. Disappointing that the Prelim finals can't be definitely shown live. I listened to last year's prelim in an internet cafe in Ibiza and nearly had a heart attack.

Every time the ball went into the forward 50 i thought it was going to be a doggies goal. Horrible.

If it was a day match yes, however a night match over here would be shown live at 1010 or 1040am... So it changes it to being shown at 1am our time (so the schedukle says)... which is in no way better...
