At the point Scott was appointed this might have been a more apt comparison. Since that moment (a whole...four days ago!) we've had Sheedy mouthing off, we've hired a new CEO and then said CEO has *ed off 24 hours later in a blaze of utter madness.

I don't know if there is really a direct comparison to that.
Neither of those things seem big to me

Put yourself in the shoes of a footballer who might place some value in the concept of landing at a club with at least a semblance of stability and generally just not being a total ****ing madhouse.

We are the total antithesis of that right now.

If Bowes chooses Geelong over us because of off field stability so be it. If im his manager though priority is money, role in the side, best 22 chances, coach and list. Yes we are young but so is Bowes and we are talented. If money is not a factor and the chance of a premiership in the next 2 years is the aim then obviously you go to Geelong

I don't know, if im a player i think once pre season kicks off and the whips are cracking im not thinking twice about the CEO or the board. Im focused on what my coach is telling me to do

Geelong does offer some unique lifestyle opportunities that no other Melbourne-based club can offer though.

I can definitely see your argument too, but I also wouldn't be quick to dismiss the idea that some players might place some real value in the 'stability' metric.

Geelong are going to eventually have to regenerate, but at this point you'd be brave to bet against them managing to do that while staying right in contention; they're remarkable in that sense. I don't think their list represents a dead end for a young and talented player.

I would just say - if the decision were so clear cut to Bowes, he would've chosen Geelong last week. Clearly he is seriously considering our offer.

Yeah this stuff with the CEO is a bad look now but it will be forgotten pretty quickly. I doubt it sways his opinion much, if any.
Has he ruled out Hawthorn? He may well have and I have just missed it in a haze of lols and face panning at all the other goings on in the last day or so.

I think the Geelong lifestyle is way overplayed. If the Cats were bottom 4 for 20 years running no one would look at it. But they are a well run club that have been successful the last 20+ years with very few low spots. Thats the big draw card plus they have habbit of developing players well that could be appealing to him, Geelong IMO isn't far enough from Melb for that to be a real factor as much as some make it out.

My pick is he wil chose the cats

Maybe he sees we're getting better by fixing our screwups quicker than we make them

I got nothing else

I genuinely don't understand how Geelong fit in his salary unless GC are paying some. I swear they have a different currency over there. Also how the * is he on 800k a year in the first place?
By signing a longer deal and spreading the money over 4 years

Is bowes that filthy on gold coast? He got a million more than he would have anywhere else and now they will trade him to his club of choice so he can build a long AFL career.

Yeah I'd be annoyed at the coach but club I'd have a million reasons to be happy.

If he wants a dysfunctional club to hand out another over the top contract then we are looking good.

GCS didn't actually pay him the money by the sounds of it, they promised it at the back of his contract and are now trying to offload it. If he goes to Geelong and spreads the amount over future years, he'll be taking a paycut on what he should have earned.

you're not wrong, once pre-season kicks off most of the boys club(our board) posturing around doesn't matter too much as a player, BUT when you're trying to attract players having the club look like a shambolic mess from the exterior matters!

Rule out any players choosing the Dons this off season, maybe a delisted Narkle or something that's been thrown on the tyre fire but there wont be any Bowes coming our way or anything worth a damn.

Tigers are the same, they both either have PHD's in accounting or PHD's in Carltanks Visy program

This is another reason why Barham's position is untenable.
Edit: I'm willing to wait until after the trade period has concluded to push that cart.

Bowes + Pick 7 could really set us up for the next decade. Our list is already brimming with young high end talent and a good mix of players either entering or about to enter their prime and those two will be the cherry on top.

Geelong is also a much better place to live these days, plenty of people would relocate down the Bellarine if they could do the exact same job down there I'm sure.

Agree BUT what would be the point of flipping him out if we are just going to drop another one of this insula boys club puppets in the spot again? Sh!t still smells the same whether you scratch it or if you dont!
