We don't have much worth trading, certainly not top 10 worthy, maybe not even 1st round worthy.

If Perkins asked out you might get something decent, I'd have him pick 12-18 on current showing, I'd rather keep him if that was offered.

Hobbs would be worth 25-35?
Caldwell similar, Parish clearly needs to find touch and fitness, but his type isn't desirable at the moment.

McGrath band 2 at best.

Merrett asking to leave would certainly be rock bottom, I'm not afraid of rock bottom fwiw. We need Zach he must stay.

We don't have much choice but to stay the course and draft better, it's the only way forward.

Hayes, Baldwin, Reid, Caddy, Tsatas, Davey, Davey, Roberts, Lual, Vigo, Bryan, Hunter

Can 50% 75% of them become best 22(23) in the next 2-3 years?

occasionally the list spot becomes more important than the player who is filling it. A big reason why I was keen to explore any pick inside 30 for Shiel with St.Kilda last year.

Shiel breaks free, we move on, offer the opportunity to a kid and we get a chance to balance the list with a kid to fill a different role

That's true, definitely agree with that.

They should've took nothing and paid his salary if that's what it took to move Shiel on. He didn't want to be here and we're paying him to sit out anyway.

Ive seen a few people mention this.. where does one fit in though?
Sometimes the best afl midfielders aren’t midfielders in their draft year.

I think the move was actually, to let parish go to Geelong and get decent pick back for him. Likely geelongs top pick which we ended up trading for. Then ride Shiel for as long as we need him until tsatas Hobbs Perkins and Caldwell take over.

For parish we get something decent for Shiel I doubt we would get something inside 30.

Other than a few extra touches a game and more health availability the difference between healthy Shiel and parish is negligible.

Far too much doom and gloom after one game.

Played shit got smashed. It happens. Rozee and butters were both skinny flankers picked outside of the top 10 so nothing about Essendons current finishes would hypothetically need to change to have access to that level of talent.

Just need to continue to competently build the list and training standards

this is the other big thing. We have a mountain of salary, buy salary from someone and get a decent -ish pick for a Shiel

mentioned earlier today, our development has been pathetic for a decade. Our VFL program has left languishing for years and it shows by the amount of kids we simply do not develop.

The match last night was not an aberration. Port are considered one of the premiership fancies and Essendon are looking like a bottom 6 team despite what people want to think

With two guys out of action for the mid-long term at least, we could possibly have a pick or two in the mid season draft. Furthermore, 17 senior and all 4 rookie listed guys are out of contract at years end so PLENTY of room to move.

One would need to consider this group as front runners to be moved on;

Kaine Baldwin
Nick Hind
Dyson Heppel (retired?)
Matt Guelfi

and then possibly add
Jake Kelly
Sam Weidemann

Jye Menzies
Tex Wanganeen
Jaiden Hunter

Couple would be stiff but perennially injured players should be moved on, especially guys who have been on the list for multiple years now.

IF were getting a game changer then one of Parish or Merret is being moved out imho
Doubt we are moving on the captain so it would be Parish.

For sure. Agree with all this.

I just don’t like the “blow it all up” hysteria. Bringing in stars via trade or high picks isn’t going to transform an unprofessional organisation.

it’s going to be a process to transform the list but it doesn’t have to be a north like “The Process” rebuild

When you look at the turning moments of a club like Melbourne. The wheel seemed to turn when they started bringing in leaders like Daniel Cross. Might only be a year or so but they were in a level enviroemt and leaders in there own rights. We seem to want to bring in gap fillers and not exactly the right people

It’s not one game though, is it. We’ve lost 3 of our last 6 games by a combined amount of 265 points.

Rozee was pick 5 just fyi. Same as Tsatas. Difference is Rozee had played 26 games of AFL at the same time of his career, while we have Tsatas rotting away in the VFL.

You do need to judge what we are now doing apart from what we previously did.
Would not say McKay is a gap filler.
Goldy yes. He is basically filling in time while Draper and Bryan work out their shit.
Gresham. Goal kicking small forward. Not quick or a manic pressure player but did I say goal kicking small forward.
Duursma. Slow start but his point of difference with us is his running ability.
Sure we have got a few plonkers previously. However the current crew are not responsible for them. Everyone knows the **** ups of the past.

The other difference was Rozee did not miss half a season in his top age under 18 year and then half a season in his first year. You are jumping on the wrong band wagon if you are lining Scott up for playing older blokes over Tsatas. Scott has basically played him out of position to get him in the side.
Do not know about you but if players dog several contests I am happy to see them go back to the VFL.
He is not rotting away in the VFL. More fake news. He has actually been played more than he should have been based on his fitness levels and actual form.

I look forward to seeing Parish in the VFL next week too then - if it’s a team-wide rule, that should happen - and I welcome it.

Last pre season. Missed the first half of the year.
Previously it was a shoulder injury that kept him out of half his top age year.

You do know there is a difference between flat out refusing to put effort in to go at a contest and just not being good enough to nail defense ?
Parish tries. Defense is just not his thing. He does not actually dog a contest. I am not in the Parish fan club and have been as critical as nearly anyone on him but I have never seen him actually dog a contest and not go hard when he has had to.
There are standards and there are standards.
