Guessing Ainsworth has told GWS he’s leaving… shoulder knock… still to consult specialist… season over!?!?

All that remains to need confirmed is where is he going?

Season over for shining Sun

Gold Coast pressure forward Ben Ainsworth has been officially ruled out of the season after injuring his shoulder during the clash with Port Adelaide.

GC SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull said the small forward would consult a specialist later this week to determine the next course of action.

“Ben sustained a knock to his shoulder during the match which was assessed further post-match,” Bull said.

“He has unfortunately suffered a high-grade AC joint injury which means Ben will be unavailable for the remainder of the season.”
Shoulder awareness at the Dons?

With such an even top 25 draft pool

Its hard to know if a pick around 10-12 will give enough confidence of being ahead of the bid or not

Youd think there would be enough clubs looking to drift back and maybe get extra the following year for example

Gold Coast 8 and 9 will be available and we may need some points
Will be interesting how it plays out for sure.

🤣

Is that like in 2006 when the AFL changed the priority pick rule from a first rounder to end of first rounder? The change that probably cost us Joel Selwood.

Looks like it might be a sit and wait situation draft night, to see if someone pulls the trigger on a bid before our first

The interesting debate for me is if/when we try to advance our second depending on where Kako lands (if outside the top 20)

Guys like Shanahan, Whitlock and Sims are very attractive prospects for where we're at.

If we get one of Langford/Laylor/Allen/Travalga

Plus Kako in the first round that’s a great draft for our list needs

Keep most of the vets. 1 Goldy veteran ruck replacement and you’d only need to swap out one more person to have a very good offseason.

Get me a taller mid/flanker with pace and really good kicking skills.

I wonder if we should be pulling the trigger on Dodson if we have a second bite before a bid on Kako. Cal talks about Faull's aggression so he might be a good addition to our forward line too. I think Travaglia needs to be a priority for our first pick, although I can't find any mention of his kicking which would need to be decent.

I think the top 20 rule was a good one tbh. I'm not gonna complain because it came at the right time for us but yeah.
That was a good compromise that would have avoided egregious pisstakes like JUH while still allowing clubs to reap the rewards for putting time into their academies.

Dan Houston apparently a watch trade wise with the Dees keen. In the unlikely event a trade does occur we should be all over it.

Gee wouldn’t Houston be a welcomed addition off the half back flank.
Beautiful skills and takes the game on.
Someone you can really trust with the footy

Would free up Martin to move to a wing/half forward
His preferred and best position.
Get Duurs on the phone. He loves Tulla.

Don't get me wrong, he's a gun, but is he worth 2 firsts to us? Because that's what we'd need to give.

Whats our biggest need after Kako covers the small forward?

Ruck… probably need to sort that via FA

Then big bodied defensive mid/HB flanker ( Heppell replacement. a good player to target in the first round before Kako)

Backup wings.

Now that some pieces are starting to fall into place the talent on the list is looking pretty good.

that's nice and all but surely having already go an abundance of the same type of player we move past it?
Hobbs may be a similar size to parish and Shiel, but at least he doesn’t avoid contact like them. Shiel and parish don’t want to be tackled and play hot potato with the footy, whereas Hobbs will happily take contact and get the hands free. Hobbs also is a willing tackler unlike the other two. Hobbs Caldwell and Durham make up for size with heart and aggression at the ball.

Caldwell Durham are only starting to get real midfield time this season, the nous and craft will get better with time.

I’m nowhere near as worried about the clearance numbers as I am about the consistent turn over goals we concede each game.
