What suggests he can’t is that he doesn’t now.

We are consistently 1, potentially 2 midfield rotations short of where we should be, completely by choice because Brad doesn’t want it. Why on earth would we or he want another rotational midfielder he doesn’t want to use?

I would love another really good mid forward rotation, you pair Smith with Caldwell and a bit of Hobbs and Perkins and that’s some serious stuff but it’s akin to a paraplegic spending 209 bucks on a new pair of running shoes, isn’t it?
How can anything Scott does right now make it abundantly clear that he cant get the best out of Baz?

Hes literally picked 6 mids today

People whinge we play mids in small fwd positions, then the same people whinge that we dont have enough mids. Those thoughts are only dictacted by scoreboard

Baz would replace Shiel today

In 2 years time when Zerrett is bordering on 31, we would also need quality mature mids ie Baz

We probably don't need more mature bodies, we should be looking to develop what we have and hit the draft

I think it depends on what is available.

I agree that it makes the most sense to trade up and grab a big bodied mid/flanker in/around the top 10. + Kako And keep building.

But if it only cost 1 FRP that will be likely absorbed to upgrade a good player to a top player

Ie if BZT = Dursma aka Starter for Starter

Then what does Starter + FRP get?

If you could use that pick to upgrade a starter into 22-24 year old high level starter who should play >100games for Essendon I think it’s an option worth exploring

I think Mckay, Duursma, Stringer, Caldwell as you mentioned

Got the absolute best for Daniher, Saad ect

Also gets involved in deals where he manages to get better draft positions

I thought it was a strange comment from Zach Package too. After all, Scott has shown a propensity to keep that structure

The guys we would be trading are probably not worth anything so the idea of 1st + Shiel for whatever, won't equate to much imho

True. A few there.

Will give you Stringer and Dursma - both were very good opportunistic wins.

Pure trades for out and out guns like Dunkley haven’t landed. Or the failed B Hill from GWS (not a gun but a pure trade).

McKay as a FA wasn’t a trade.

Would question Daniher value… Often stated that Sydney offered 2 first rounders year before that were turned down. Ended up with only 1 as a FA.

Saad is a very good player. Think it was evens… definitely not a win for EFC.

Shiel - paid considerable overs.

Smith - good value (shame he became chronically injured).

Wright - big win for mine, paid nothing, been a good contributor in the main.

Problem with hitting the draft is we actually only have three picks and no 3rd or 4th round pick . Will need to make some trades to get picks in.

Draper,Parish,Shiel,McGrath. We have plenty of tradeable players who would get us some more reasonable picks. In fact if I was Scott, I would nominate Merrett, McKay and Caddy as the only players not on the trade table.

PS. Martin and Durham would have to bring godfather trades.

Yeah so the midfield huddle at the start of today was Merrett, Shiel, Parish, Caldwell, Durham, Duursma and Cox. Unquestionably thin and we have 2 specialist midfielders that are two top 15 draft picks playing VFL.

I reiterate, he does not want it, he has no use for it. Keep the powder dry.

After this result it’s clear we weren’t in a patch of bad form and are instead just shit.

I’d look at a bit of a clean out of not just list cloggers but probably a few contracted best 22 players who aren’t prepared to play the way the coach is asking.

A few extra second or third round picks in what’s alleged to be a deepish draft would be pretty handy and give Scott the chance to bring in the sort of player he’s looking for.

Been thinking this for a while not just because we got belted by the saints. Also haven’t really looked at contract info so please correct me if I have stuffed up anything major.

Backline - Heppell retire, weiderman delist, leverde delist(harsh I know). Hope that one of Hayes Reid or Baldwin can come on. Kelly was a close delist but he makes less mistakes and has done jobs on dangerous forwards.

Draft need is skill and speed. We essentially need to get to a stage where McKay is our worst kick in the back half.

positional moves - Martin plays back because we cant create from there, I’d look at moving Merrett back there for stages. Could Perkins become a back? Hope there is drastic improvements from Lual and roberts.

Mids- Goldstein retire, trade 2 of Shiel parish and setterfeild. Leaning on keeping setterfeild because I don’t think we would get anything for him and I really don’t think there is much between them and we pay him significantly less. This creates room for growth for tsatas and Hobbs.

Draft- the best users and runners available. I think our grunt is already on the list.
Positional moves- like to see alwyn Davey moved up onto the wing. Seems more natural there.

Forwards - see what trades are available from 2mp (1st) and stringer(2nd) Otherwise keep them. Delist Wanganeen, hunter.

Draft- ruck/forward. Kako
Positional changes- love to see Martin played as a forward, as well as have Durham played mid/fwd.

I still think we have made progress since last season, I feel these moves make a clear reset to focus on youth.

If we don't make 10 list changes this year, then we are going nowhere and intent on keeping it that way.
I want to see a scorched earth policy like norf did at the end of 2020.

Baby 👏 out 👏 with 👏 bathwater👏

And hey, at least we won’t have to trade to get ahead of a Kako bid.

Can’t believe people thought Parish was going to make any difference to our midfield today. We have 5 years of him and Zerrett not working together. Not blaming the loss on him of course, but we really don’t need him on the list.
Someone mentioned in another thread, the guys re signing in the last 18 months, how many actually deserved contracts both at the time they did and the length of contracts they've been offered?

I would hazard a guess that Merrett and hopefully Caldwell are the two. The others are probably overs

I’ve never been more shocked about a player being signed up so early like i have been with Menzie. Crazy to think he got dropped 2 or 3 times, wasn’t in the 22 at the time either. Oh well. Essendon 👍

Everything about the Menzie extension stinks of Dodoro
