Retire or delist - Kelly, Heppell, Goldstein, Hind, Weideman and Tex.

Trade for as many top 30 picks we can get - Perkins, Parish, McGrath, Draper, Stringer, Shiel, Wright and Gresham.

Give Hunter, Baldwin and SAH 1 year to show something.
I’m keeping McGrath.

But otherwise, yes please

IMO we can only keep 1 of Reid or Baldwin. 2 list spots for 2 perpetually injured talls is a lot.

OOC players
OUT Heppell, Stringer, Kelly, Weid, Tex, Hunter, Lav, Goldy
NEW CONTRACTS Jones, J.Davey, Setters, Caldwell, El-Hawli, Hind, Baldwin

TRADES
Guelfi to WCE for pick 37
Draper to Port for Dante Visentini and a future pick (the Visentini brothers)
Shiel to St Kilda for pick 40
Would love to have a crack at Peatling (GWS) a real go-er like Caldwell

Its nice to dream but doubt Port are giving up anything for another established ruck. They just traded for Jordan Sweet & Ivan Soldo so doubt they'll go for another #1 ruck

I don't want to blow the joint up but some tough decisions really need to be made on some players; my frustrated July list management update.

Off Conract decisions;

7 x New Conract; Jye Caldwell (4 years), Alwyn Davey (1 year), Jayden Davey (rookie list), Matt Guelfi (1 year), Harry Jones (2 years), Will Setterfield (1 year), Jake Stringer (2 years), Vigo Visentini (rookie - 1 year)

2 x Retire; Todd Goldstein, Dyson Heppell,

6 x Delist; Kaine Baldwin, Nick Hind, Jake Kelly, Sam Weidemann, Jaiden Hunter (rookie), Tex Wanganeen (rookie)

1 x Trade; Dylan Shiel >> St.Kilda 3rd rounder (currently pick 49)

That's 9 new (7 senior, 2 rookie) incomings which I could live with. Scrap a bit of depth but think it's time to cut back and find out if the kids can do what we need them to do. Losing Shiel for example forces us to play Hobbs. Lose Weidemann & Baldwin forces us to play Hayes (or Reid if he can stand for more than 5 minutes).

Downgrading Jayden Davey to the rookie list leaves one spot there but feel we could run more rookies than senior listed spots with our picks so much later and us opening senior lis spots.

Off season we would need to bring in another ruck if Goldstein is retired. Would look at the following with the idea of signing one;

Marc Pittonet (28, 202cm, Carlton) - now stuck behind De Koning with others coming fast for the #2 spot.
Liam Reidy (24, 204cm, Fremantle) - unbashed fan of the former Dolphin doing well at WAFL level stuck behind others.
Henry Smith (22, 206cm, Brisbane) - KPF/ruck doing really well in the Lions VFL eam. stuck behind others and could do no worse than look for a new opportunity.
Lachlan McAndrew (24, 209cm, Sydney) - Mature body fighting for minutes in the ruck and stuck behind others. Not dominating but a mature body none the less

National Draft;

Essendon 1st rounder; Sam Lalor (187cm, mid/fwd, Bendigo Pioneers) - powerful mid/fwd who could be the best player from this draft. Could start as. fwd but end up that Dusty mid/fwd game changer.
My wants order; Sam Lalor, Tobie Travalgia, Harvey Langford

(Match Bid) Isaac Kako (175cm, small fwd, Calder Cannons) - seems a foregone conclusion that if the AFL change NGA rules we match. Would be a great result as a Lalor + Kako draft could really change our fortunes.

Essendon 2nd rounder; Tom Sims (199cm, KPF, Northern Knights) - big moving key forward who looks like he could be anything. A real plethora of key forwards / defenders available in the mid section of the draft.
My wants in order; Tom Sims, Archer Day - Wicks, Cooper Hynes

St.Kilda 3rd rounder (Shiel trade); Luke Urquart (183cm, mid, East Fremantle) - big midfielder with defensive running. Captained WA at the U18 championships.
My wants in order; Luke Urquart, Sam Davidson (Rich VFL), Matt Foley

Rookie selection 1; - Matt Foley (181cm, def, Essendon VFL) - could do no worse and has come on in leaps and bounds at VFL level. Would provide us cover in defence.
Rookie selection 2; - KPF (unpopular opinion but I think we need two key forward options. go in on one for a year and see how it goes)

Cat B; Jayden Nguyen (177cm, def/mid, Calder Cannons) - Has shown enough imho as a neat ball using running def/wing who likes to set up play. As a free hit, I think we could do no worse.

Supplemental Selection Period; - Best available runner &/or ball user

still need more dynamic in the AFL side but with another pre season uno Perkins, Cox, have some exuberance in Kako and get Stringer/Gresham as full time small forwards. Enough fluffing around with flexibility, play the guys to there strengths. (probably missed someone but yeah, would be close

I’ve never been more shocked about a player being signed up so early like i have been with Menzie. Crazy to think he got dropped 2 or 3 times, wasn’t in the 22 at the time either. Oh well.

Where’s Martin?

Can’t believe people thought Parish was going to make any difference to our midfield today. We have 5 years of him and Zerrett not working together. Not blaming the loss on him of course, but we really don’t need him on the list.
And apparently another 5 more years of this dynamic duo

Menzie contract means he is upgraded to the senior list

makes it even more baffling
You do realise the only meaningful difference between the rookie and senior list is that on the rookie list about 100k of your contract that year doesn't contribute to the salary cap, right?

true, my gripe is Menzie being on the list completely
Yeah. That's a bit silly. He's a 21 year old who has struggled this season but has shown to be a good player at the level below and had a decent 20 year old season. Giving him one more season gives him a chance to show the form he did last year. If he doesn't, he probably gets cut.

It wasn't like he had earnt it with blistering form at AFL (or VFL) level for that matter

Was poor timing imho.

Should've offered two to make sure the Hawks or someone didn't pounce and turn him into a jet

Give Hunter, Baldwin and SAH 1 year to show something.
I'd keep Hind. He's still good depth. Same with Gresh. Alwyn needs to push him out of the side.
Shiel's going so I'd keep Parish. I'd keep McGrath as he can lock down.

Weideman seems to be reinventing himself as a reasonable tall back. Sad to say, but I'd probably keep Weide as tall back depth and delist Balders now.

I'd be happy to shop Perkins, Draper, Stringer and Wright.

So that's;
Out:
Heppell
Kelly
Goldstein
Shiel

Shop:
Stringer
Perkins
Draper
Wright

Would have to consider the futures of Reid and Hunter.
I'd think I'd keep Wanganeen for one more year.
