what else would he have said, even assuming that there is anything ever said that isn't party line?

"We are going to the draft, except for Harley Reid if he wants to come to us (even though he's under contract and I'm now setting off a media firestorm that will engulf the club for the next 24 weeks)"
I'm not sure of the point you're making here... that you can't trust what any of them say?

I guess I'm somewhere between naive and cynical, but I reckon if you start with holding them to what they have actually said, rather than what you imagine they are suggesting, it makes it easier to evaluate performance and justify your opinion later.

Most clubs within the comp, the best ones, have outright A-graders/stars, something we've lacked for so long. Reid has the most potential to be that for a long time.

However my main point wasn't on the argument on whether we should get him and what he's worth and more about the claim that having an interest in an almost sure-fire star meant we had a messiah complex. Fugazi.
Probably more accurate to say many supporters have a messiah complex. This much is clear when you see supporters' harsh responses to debutants' who make a mistake on debut.

Wouldn't surprise me if Kako and Caddy will cop unnecessary heat from supporters this season, when their young bodies start to fatigue.

I'm enamoured by the prospect as well. I just wondered what the purpose of the speculation was given Scott had made it pretty clear we're looking at drafting.

I had forgotten Vozzo talked about finding the right balance between recruiting and drafting, though.
Its basically the same thing

Just your drafting a 20 yr old instead of an 18 yr old practically

But i did take BS comments as maybe its not that likely with Reid, but id say it will all depend on the buying price

Im doing 2 first for Harley

Hes a chance to make the rebuild not as long and we can be in the picture to get players in as FAs far quicker as we start seeing more immediate improvements

If us not going for Reid means Hawthorne have a clear run at him, then we can't let that happen, they'll win 4 of the next 6 flags if they get Reid ffs

Just could not be the less correct mentality to have.

How good was our recruitment of McKay! Prevented hawthorn from getting him.

If we compare the JHF situation, I'd much rather be North Melbourne.

North are starting to look decent because they've sucked for a long time, not because they lost JHF. I've been envious of North the past 5 years, it's the bottom out rebuild I've wanted.

I made a post a few pages back about how it could look if we traded for Harley or if we don't, I think either way we can have a good couple of off seasons, draft and/or Reid.

Pick a plan/list strategy and stick to it, hope Rosa knows what he's doing.

Fun fact, North Melbourne had 7 (if you want to include the recycled Dylan Stephens from Sydney) top 5 picks in the line up on the weekend, With 6 more first rounders

Essendon had 2 top 5 pick (Tsatas as a #5, McGrath at #1) and a further 7 first rounders (including #21 pick Ben MCKay)

If Jackets was still in charge I'd want to trade for Reid. Guy had multiple top 10 picks in his tenure, and what did we get?Parish and Francis. Perkins/Reid/Cox. Deeply underwhelming stuff.

Would I trade Parish and Francis for Reid? In a heart beat. Would I trade Perkins and Cox? Where do I sign.

But all that said, I reckon Rosa and his team have a good nose for talent and even on the back of a sample size of 1 off-season I trust them. Same equation, I'm backing them in to get the picks right.

At the moment i see

Richmond, Ess, WCE, Dees as the 4 worse sides in the comp albeit early. Still think saints can be around that and North

Id say its atleast pick 3 and 6 and likely better

A bit will depend on whats available with the top 6 picks

Our biggest need will be an elite midfidler and then its probably another Key Fwd. It could be said even 2 genuine elite midfielders come before a KPF

Cody Curtin KPF from the west is looking like one of those top 6-10 picks

Atm im doing pick 3 and 6 for Reid

L.Hayes
Z.Reid
Mcgrath
A.Roberts
A.Clarke

H Reid
Durham
Nic Martin
Caldwell
Tsatas/Perkins
Duursma

Caddy
Kako
H.Jones (Not sure)

Hopefully a Lual, SEH, Z.Johnson also can jump but wont bank on it
