In this thread, ploz provide sauces for anything you claim as fact. It can be specific such as an article link or Neale's sisters cousins hairdresser or vague such as "own sauces" but ploz avoid blanket statements with no reference point, it makes people antsy.

And I have no idea why Aliir is in the conversation.
Because I raised him as one example of the quality of a player traded for a second rounder recently. Notte and Hannath were never traded and Kersten was traded for peanuts not a pick in the low 20s plus some

Ah apologies I misread, I thought you were using Allir as an example of someone we could draft with those picks we've traded away.

I'm ok with the Clark trade. He's an identified talent, exposed form was good at AFL level (no one in the draft has that currently), and sounds like there were issues with Scarlet. Plus he's a WA boy, so lots of boxes ticked.

Value is weird in the AFL - how much is too much? If it turns out like Bennell, pick 61 would be too much, if he ends up better than Walker and we have the two of them streaming off half-back, or he kills it on the wing, we'll be laughing at the great deal we got. Walls has been one of the better recruiters over the last 4-5 seasons so happy to back him in.

As for Lobb we're very much in the box seat. 13 straight, or 2 and we pay a bunch of his salary. If it doesn't happen we keep him, he'll have to perform if he wants to be picked up as a 31 year old (and I don't think GWS will be in the window at that stage, so this whole 'family love in' may have changed), so I'd expect 2 solid years from him. If he goes, get a stop-gap like Mason Cox or play our Cox forward (Mason Cox isn't great, but he demands a defender and is a good set shot - plus who doesn't want to see two Cox pummeling the opposition...)

TLDR
We'll be fine with 22 and F3 for Clark
Lobb can suck a bag of Cox unless we get 13 min.

If we get 20 games out of Clark next season with some flashy moments we will be laughing all the way home with a first round pick we got for a second round pick in trade.

I want to see Clark run really fast with the ball in hand. We need pace, and he has it. If he can receive a kick-in, burn off his opposition, then ping a leading forward on the chest...

I was really impressed by Clark's under 18's carnival and was even more excited by his talent in his first season. Since then I really haven't seen a lot from him.

At the end of the day, there's no team I have more respect for in being able to build a player to play a role and execute it, regardless of draft position than Geelong.

So as much as I'd love to trust my own 'eye test', it really does concern me how he couldn't consistently get a game for them.

Been injured, they brought in Isaac Smith, which was probably his position to be played in, he's not as good as Isaac Smith. Yet.
Doesn't bother me that he couldn't force Smith out.

Serong is going to explode next year. He's a goodun
His interview currently up on the website is really good. I don’t know what is is about Caleb but I feel really proud of him for his achievements and I don’t even know him. It’s really moving to see someone so talented yet so humble who obviously cares a lot about this club. He’s a gem.

If the Lobb deal falls over, what does his return to the team look like? If he struggled integrating with playing group before...

What will the death rattles be like from Colin Young?
Only that if he really wants to go to a Melbourne based club in 2023 he may realise he will have to perform this year or next year he will be lowballed again.

Clark will play as a mid but he'll spend a lot of his time in defence and will provide an alternative to Walker and Henry coming out of defence, but he'll also link up with those two.
No club will compete with the class, skill, speed of HB. Definite weapon on the rebound.
Opposition will need to kick to perfection, otherwise we will burn them.

He plays hbf, where they preferred Zach Guthrie and Bews. Both no better than average players on good days.

I'll be very happy if he holds down wing for us, or frees one of our hbf-ers to do the same.

We should rookie his brother, Jai Serong , he's a reasonably good player ,I read somewhere , good mark.

Do understand while Clark has been languishing in the VFL this would have been the biggest part of
his development as an AFL player that has been taken away.
He won’t get that back + most likely won’t develop as high as he could have had he been playing.

A number of our players have come on because they have given game time.

Yes we drafted very well in the past few years, but our trading has been poor.

It surely is time to rethink our trading strategies or those doing the strategising.
If not for the GCS trade, (+ that only happened after the McPherson trade fell over), we would be languishing.
He played 18 games in his first season. For a debut season he was pretty good. I liked what i saw.
He got badly injured in 2020 and barely played.
Geelong traded in Smith to go out all on a flag assault which kept him out of the team.
Now if he was 25 still playing at VFL level with occasional AFL game then yeah the case for him 'languishing' could be made and his development stunted. But he's 21 nearly 22 entering his 4th season. Hes played 32 games which is way to early to write someone off.
