Cripps was on appeal and was a joke he got off.
Maynard on the other hand was a football act. Jumped to smother and braced for contact. They have obviously changed the rule now with the Maynard one.

How is it after all this time folks still don’t understand the rules in relation to the Houston bump.
There are only two questions that the tribunal need to ask itself:
1. Did Houston elect to bump?
2. Was Rankine concussed?
Yes to both of those and Houston is gone. It’s just a question of the chook lotto that is how many games. 4 weeks will be the bare minimum.

Considering Rankine deliberately lined up and concussed a guy off the ball and got 4 weeks with seasons still on the line for both those teams.
Houston lined up and concussed Rankine while contesting the ball in a dead rubber for Rankines team.
How can the penalty be 4 weeks or more given those circumtances, it cannot be any more than 3 weeks at maximum.

That Cripps one was far worse than Houstons, blows my mind people are as outraged as they are, if rankie walked it off it's a non issue hence why it wasn't even a free, knockout = someone must be suspended, get it right AFL like the NFL does.
If you legally bump a guy and accidentally cause concussion you get 4 weeks for choosing to bump. Or if your name is McAdam you get 4 weeks for 'potential to cause injury'.
If you elect to shirt front a guy (outlawed 20+ years ago) who has no way of protecting himself, and knock him out?
I'd think during the season its 6 weeks plus. 8 wouldn't be a surprise. 10 not impossible.
With a possible grand final berth? Who knows. In truth, he should be done for the season, GF or not.

Rankine got 4 for an off the ball hit where he stopped, turned 180* and lead with his shoulder on an unsuspecting Starcevic.

AFL could give Houston 3 weeks, punish him for the hit but allow him and save on legal costs fighting the case. Port accept, save on legal costs.
AFL then come out and officially ban the bump outright resulting in free kicks, and suspensions.
AFL have done their job.

the bump is still useful for contests and shepherding as long as it's reasonable to do so. Smashing Rankine while he was exposed because he was winning the pill is unreasonable

Admit he took a huge risk doing it. Could have just held him up. Especially given the way things have gone last 2 years.

The hit didn't even get him high, but they'll still wanna make an example of him. 2 weeks is fair.
Stop and brace for contact is somehow worst than running through a player he started to lined up 15m, sure bruh lol. Rankine got 4 weeks and Houston will likely get 6 weeks.
