One can dream. I would go the bad boy route. Game breaking debut and projected to be the GOAT. Get caught up with the wrong crowd, put through the media roasting, get sacked by the club, given a lifeline by a bottom team. Drag bottom team to the top in what would be the greatest redemption story in the history of sport

Hahahaha If only !!

Would love a mode where you get to control only 1 character in a career mode and you start out as a rookie, get drafted and try and become the best playing in the comp. The better you play, the more offers you get from other teams to join them. A bit like the current F1 games.

As you get better your stats improve or get worse if you have a bad season.

The other one is to have a coach mode like the soccer games and you get to coach a team or be a manager of a team and you get to hire coaches, get sponsorship and try to recruit the best players into your club while managing the salary cap.

In player career mode the tutorial should be draft combine and a few games of U18s. Depending on how well you play and how well you display skills you get a ranking and number of interviews. Those interviews will have negative, neutral and positive answers to choose from. Then draft night happens which leads into picking a team.

Once you have been drafted you will be interviewed by the media and have to handle the responses yourself. How well you handle these things affects your popularity which directly affects your dollar worth via sponsorships.

During preseason you can choose go through skills and drills to earn development points for your stats. This will translate to inbetween game training. You can focus on certain areas that require improving.

Every now and then you get off field options and choices which can have both negative and positive effects but not plainly obvious. Example a few team mates may invite you out for a night on the town. This could either improve chemistry which means players will try to look for you on the field and help you by blocking ect. Or it can result in bad media if you are arrested for drunken behaviour.

You will also get regular emails from your manager with other clubs interested in you etc

Thoughts?

Yes exactly like that. Would be awesome.

So like FIFA 17's Journey mode with a bit of New Star Soccer thrown in too?

I like it.

I think the biggest issue with AFL as a videogame is the sheer size of the ground. Most camera angles make it impossible for you to pick out a player on the lead 50m away so the gameplay tends to be gather ball, bomb it straight down the line, to a one-on-one contest, rinse and repeat.

Limiting you to controlling one player could be a way around this.

I was also thinking of a different approach with controls to let you still control the whole team. Instead of the usual A = kick B = handball etc. make the controls context sensitive so when you gather the ball, controller icons appear above teammates and when you press that button your player will try to get it to them. That could be by hand or by foot depending on how far away they are. Eg Priddis gets most of his touches at the bottom of a pack, so when he gets the ball it's likely that all of the face buttons could result in handballs, but to different players.

Skill, weather, pressure, your timing etc could all affect how well players dispose of the ball. I think it will help with camera angles and stuff cos you could have icons on the edge of the screen corresponding with players further away.

Does that make sense?

Nah it'd make for awesome game if someone could just design a good one.
Fifa team pls

I think making a good footy game to the same standard as FIFA/NBA 20-whatever they're up to would be very difficult. IMO it would take more resources than the equivalent soccer/basketball game but the market for buyers would be under a million whereas the next FIFA will sell more in pre-sales alone.

Further to that, you could have different buttons affect the type of disposal. ie. on PS4, you hold down R2 at the same time as the player option in order to kick it to them, or R1 to handball. The issue would be you would run out of buttons quicker than options in most scenarios, especially when you add buttons for sprint and the like.

A work around could be as follows:
Left toggle for movement. Right toggle for special moves like FIFA (eg. spin through tackles, evade etc.). If you get tackled you could have options to get out of it (fend off using right toggle, x to try to dispose of it by hand, o to try and push them off you etc), X would be for a speed burst that only lasts a couple of seconds at most, R1 run fast, manually bounce using L1. O would instigate a quick kick forward meant for panic situations out of defence, or in the forward half it would be a quick shot. You will always be surrounded by 4 options with xosquaretriangle on them, as well as similiar options forward of the ball (maybe one behind as well). Hold down R2 to kick it or L2 to handball and simultaneously hit the option you want (double tapping for the longer options). Maybe pressing L1 at the same time changes it from a regular disposal to an attempted sear pass/handball.

I've already thought about this too much, but in summary I like your concept with the options.

My favourite part of AFL Live 04 was at the start of the game when Dennis would say: With the Demons struggling for form and the Eagles needing their first win, Im tipping. The Eagles.
Then Gerard Healy would say: I disagree Dennis, Im going with. The Eagles
Used to crack me up big time

Verbatim quotes from the intro of a Port v Gold Coast game I once played on BigAntStudios' effort:

Dennis: "What are your thoughts on this game between Port Adelaide. and. Gold Coast."
BT: "Port Adelaide! Gold Coast!"
...
Dennis: "Thanks BT."

In fairness to the developers, it's about the same level of insight that Brian Taylor usually provides.

To flesh a possible single player campaign out, how about a mode where you can relive some of the game's most amazing moments.
Plugga the pig v1.0 brings the latest in swine based animation and collision detection algorithms, creating a challenge to all practised tackling gamers.

Just give us AFL LIVE 1 slightly better gameplay/graphics with better options including choosing finals series as in positions 1-8 and wed be happy.

Not hard is it?? Ffs!

This is good but there should also be an offseason mode that's a bit like gta.

Maybe you could also be a player who has to provide for there family on game day and you have to allow enough $$ for them to buy the overpriced food at the ground and if you don't your family go hungry and disown you and it becomes a big media controversy.
