Any word on any retirements after the game? AFLQ Website said coach and Housego might be finishing up this year?

Any one got thoughts on finals series, this thread has been pretty quiet! Noosa look good things, can the 4 sides get close?

Go the mighty Mayne Tigers great they finished on a high note. As for Housego he hasn't retired as yet. Good to see some support for the tiges on this site.

hope Sandgate win the GF sick of the Coast sides dominating the comp

Who's going to win the flag? Any thoughts?

Also who are your tips to for Duncanson Todd medal?

My tip would be Noosa and Mikal Bloom for medal.
Hoping Sandgate will win, but most likely Noosa.Luke Faulkner from Mayne is a chance for the medal:thumbsu:

Forks would be a shot if we won more games this year, unfortunately votes go mostly to winning teams...would be great to see him win though

Pineapple Cup Division2 competition 2011 season
There have been some persistent rumours about the Tigers and their place in next year’s competition, so I asked the AFLQ what the score was and got the following reply from David Heilbron.
“I don’t know where the rumour started but I can assure you that Mayne are part of the Pineapple Hotel Cup competition as long as they want to be. End of Story” David Heilbron is the AFLQ Manager of the Pineapple Cup Division 2 competition
David has also looked at some options since we now have to accommodate Western Magpies – who chose to come back to our Division after failing I Division 1. The two main ones being:
a. All last year’s teams plus Western Magpies would be in this option. A full 20 round season for the 11 teams with byes as needed
b. Have a 12 team competition with some teams now playing each other twice by bringing a team into Division 2 from the Association
A meeting in November will clarify the issue and then it will be full steam ahead in planning for the 2011 season.
Thought the rumors of Mayne being dropped was crap

LIONS CONFIRM MAGPIES ALLIANCELIONS CONFIRM MAGPIES ALLIANCE
The Brisbane Lions have today formalised an alliance with the Western Magpies to provide top-up players for the the AFL club’s Reserves side playing in the QAFL State League.

Thursday, 21 October, 2010

The Brisbane Lions have today formalised an alliance with the Western Magpies to provide top-up players for the the AFL club’s Reserves side playing in the QAFL State League.

This follows the Magpies decision after two winless seasons in the State League to revert to the Pineapple Hotel Cup second division competition next year.

As part of the agreement, all Magpies U21 players will be eligible to act as top-up players for Lions in the State League.

According to a Lions media statement today, the arrangement will help build a continuity of playing personnel for the Lions which has previously been lacking in the reserve grade level.

In return, the Lions will provide the Magpies' players with valuable State League experience as well as direct access to the Lions coaches and other key off-field staff.

The Lions, too, confirmed they are set to appoint a designated Reserves Coach who will be responsible solely for coaching the Lions Reserves.

This person will work closely with recently appointed Head of Development Darren Trevena, formerly of Port Adelaide.

The Reserves Coach will also work with the Magpies top-up players to aid their football development.

The Lions Reserves and Western Magpies will train together once each week and continue to build strong relationships both on and off the field through training sessions and post-match events.

A number of the Lions Reserves' State League home games in 2011 will also be hosted by the Western Magpies at their football venue in Chelmer.

Lions National Talent Manager Rob Kerr believes the arrangement will help provide a more effective vehicle for the development of the young Lions players.

"From a list management point of view, the development of the younger players on our list is a priority," Kerr said.

"We will gain access to a group of young players from the Western Magpies who can continue their own football development by being a regular part of our reserves side.

"In turn, this will also help us develop our own young recruits and field a more competitive reserves grade team."

The Lions Reserves side finished eighth on the QAFL ladder in 2010 and injuries to senior Lions players meant that the team was forced to rely heavily on its inexperienced top-up players.

"Last year, the Lions Reserves used over 60 top-up players - most of whom were from the QAFL Under 18s."

"While we respect and appreciate their contribution to the side, this arrangement did not provide an optimal environment for the development of our own young players."

"Given the Sherwood region falls within the Brisbane Lions' Talent Academy recruitment zone, we see the alliance with the Western Magpies as a great opportunity to strengthen our links with the football community in this region."

Magpies President Brian Knight is pleased that the club's younger players will still be afforded the opportunity to develop their football careers by participating at State League level.

"This is an outstanding outcome for our crop of youngsters," Knight said.

"With the support and assistance from the AFL and the Brisbane Lions, we can now continue to provide a tremendous pathway for the large talent pool produced by clubs throughout the Western Suburbs."

"Everyone is excited about the association with the Lions and looks forward to developing a mutually beneficial relationship," he said.

How is this fair to the other clubs in the Pineapple hotel cup, you may as well hand the Cup to the Magpies before the season starts they will just dominate.:thumbsdown:

I can't see how this can improve the Western Magpies position in the PHC. this only Diminishes the capacity of the Magpies to draw on their talented U21's. So in otherwords it means that if at all they will be disadvantaged by losing thier top U21's to the Lions reserves. Is that not right?

I still don't think its fair there is a big gap between Div 1 and Div2 and they were there for 2 years. So they are going tobe a class above the other clubs in Div2 as it is. Now with this alliance they are going to dominate even further, not all of those under 21's are going make the lions reserves every week so they go and back and play for the W/magpies in the PHC. To add to it they all get to train with the Lions reserves , AFL players and assistance by a highly talented coaching staff alot more than alot of the other clubs in the PHC. So yes it is unfair, they will thrash many sides, just as the comp was starting to become a liiitle more even.

If the Younger players have any ambition to get picked up by a AFL team then they will have to play for a State League club.Heard Moore, last years ruckman may be heading to Labrador
