Think Tank AFLW players are being shamelessly exploited

This thread is truly ****ed

The women are on $5k-$10k a season, and obviously hoping for tjeir comp to grow and pay more.
Of you want to apply the same standards pay them rhe same as the men, my guess is they'd take the crap for the money.
We have quite a few interstate players living in a share house so they can afford to play. It isn't a fully professional but obviously the commitment for part of the year would affect other employment.
I think a player, with obvious ability, who loses a heap of weight to play is a great role model. It will obviously take time. She's not the only player in the AFLW in that boat.
That's kinda the point of sport,

They aren't professionals, part time professionals at best
That's why it shouldn't be televised or rammed down our throats in the media, the standard is crap, honestly it's about local under 16 boys standard at best, yet we don't have to put up with the marketing departments telling us young Billy Anderson is a gun......

It isn't compulsory to watch it or show any interest though, so I dont get your point.

The point is that this is not an exercise in professional sport. No matter how much propaganda gets shoved out there.

It is an exercise in marketing which is costing a great deal of money. Money spent with the sole purpose of building female interest in the (real) AFL. You know, the one which is an elite sport and generates real income.

Get across that simple truth, and everyone can get along.

I don't watch it, nor show interest, however due to the over marketing of it, and the medias agreement to tow the AFL corporate line I am exposed to discussions on the radio and highlights/news reports on the TV.

I have little sympathy, I have zero interest in the Neanderthal game, but cant avoid being constantly exposed to it.

I thought people were being harsh on the comp before it started. One of my relatives said, "The guys on Foxtel are hyping the women's comp up, but really, who cares?" I thought he was wrong, to be honest, but after watching Collingwood vs Carlton I must say I agree with him. The scores are just far too low. The big crowds and tv ratings are a mixture of boredom with nothing to watch, wanting to know what it's like, wanting to say "I was at the first women's match" and free entry. It's definitely good what they're doing, and I might head down to a couple of the games at Whitten Oval but these low scores are just way too low to keep a consistent audience.

“Most footy players organise their wedding for the off-season, but I didn’t know I was going to be playing with the Crows a year ago,” Hollick told the club’s website.

the final part was interesting............

In 2015 Victorian tennis player Arina Rodionova famously played an Australian Open wildcard playoff semi-final on the morning of her wedding day.

Rodionova won her match, then quickly headed off to get ready for her big day where she married Hawthorn recruit Tyrone Vickery in the afternoon. She then played in the playoff final the next day.
