Game Day AFLW Round 6, 2024: West Coast vs Port Power

The thing I hope Daisy drills into the girls over the next pre-season and even the remains of this year is being much more clean with the ground ball.
Too many times today we were clear and had to completely stop or take too long just to grab the ball off the deck.
It brought undue pressure and allowed port players to just close the space too quickly.

Not to mention the ropeable error in the goal square where we missed a gimme goal because they couldn't pick the ball up and just tried a hack kick.

I hate how we played after quarter time. Was never going to be a quick fix. imo we've showed so much already this season.

Next year we'll be most consistent and will be pushing for finals as a result.

The girls have a long long way to go but I don't think we could've dreamed of a better first portion of Daisy's season. Daisy being here will hopefully attract more talent and you'll slowly start seeing the girl's who've been here a while phased out.

Very annoying result after 19-0 at QT. Ella Roberts is the greatest player alive.

Could do something crazy in the remaining games and push for finals but that was a very important game in the chase. The sheer fact that’s on the table is a testament to what a year it’s been.

Ah well. Thought Cleaver showed some typically frustrating moments but also by far her best moments as a KPD contesting for the kick inside 50. Has a long way to go but showed glimpses today.

Bushby awesome signs. Port mids gave ours a bath after QT and shows how reliant we have been on the maturity of Drennan in there, as we just don’t have enough to go with oppo midfields at the stoppage even with Roberts and Lewis on song.

Umpiring is trash in the mens but my word is it somehow even worse in the W.

Thought she was pretty good 1on1 and often got the spoil in to kill the contest but was too often completely shown up on the lead.

Port played really well I thought after quarter time. First time Daisy has been outpointed in the box I think.

The girls had their chance late third and through the 4th but let themselves down with execution under pressure.

Not sure about Roux's last quarter goal. Great finish but zero game sense in burning the last of the clock away IMO. Probably didn't matter but one of those mind-set/small percentage things that good sides get right.

Great season for the girls so far. It's been a quantum leap.
