Women's Footy AFLW Season 2025 - Draft 16th Dec 4PM WST

Interesting that the AFL is going to begin limiting the outside the cap payments to AFLW players.

Amazing.
As an equalisation measure alone this is a good thing, given Adelaide paying Marinoff more than her playing salary in additional agreements (Not saying she doesn't deserve it!) but that's a huge leg up for attracting talent and helping to mitigate the tiered structure of the cap.

But outside of that it sucks, especially when new data came out to show the ROI for businesses when using women's sports stars as ambassadors etc. If they want the best talent there has to be a way to remunerate them well.

Club should employ someone to seek additional sponsorship opportunities for players still (men's and women's) given this would fall outside the cap.

I was listening to something on Sport FM in the car radio tonight, a Melbourne based sports program where they were interviewing the Eastern Ranges coach about the players he coached that were taken in the 2024 AFLW draft.

He described Georgie Brisbane and Evie Parker as versatile and capable of playing/have played forward, wing and centre half back.

Have been almost totally offline since Monday...

...but we is the new size queens of the AFLW!

It's hard to get attached to any draftees beyond Indi at this stage, unfortunately, such is the highly transitory state of list management across the comp.

Sounds awesome.

Brisbane and Parker could spend 50/50 wing/third back or forward.

Hi gang, the poll for Poster of the Year closes in a bit over a week so before you slip into a food coma please get in there and vote for your favourite game preview if you haven't already. It's a bloody close contest so far, so your vote absolutely counts.

The preview posters gave good effort to entertain & inform us over the season, so please honour their work by casting your vote.

Antonio was on lumber mode for the season. Run and dash doesn't really seem her thing anymore.

I thought E.A. was a good contributor by the 2nd half of the season but the first few games it looked like she should have retired. Would be amazing if one of these draftees have a career that's anywhere near as good.

Team looks half decent with Bowers, Tighe and Stannett back, especially if a couple draftees can show up in the first year

Weak links are Pugh, Eps, Seth, GBW, Lally and probably Smith.

Selection is gonna be interesting if we have a fit team

Poor Matilda Banfield, hopefully can make a name for herself (Just not as Melissa)

Lally was 6th in the B & F so hopefully she will go all right next year

Think Seth may be replaced on the wing and i fear Eps will be in and out the team

I know we are a long way away and the afl.com journos aren’t across everything Freo but maybe profile a player who just wasn’t cut?

Fremantle

Emma O’Driscoll always wears the same GWS bra as her lucky charm for every match.

Serena Gibbs always has the same breakfast on game day: eggs on toast with mushroom, avocado and tomatoes. She also travels to games alone, and doesn’t find out where her family are sitting at games – she says it throws her off.

Why is Emma wearing a GWS bra?

If the secrets in the underwear?
I only see the purple!
The regular Canberra game used to be GWS-Dockers. First year I went, Dockers sucked. After the game, I realised I had worn orange undies.

Corrected with purple undies in future years and the Dockers didn’t lose another one I went to 😂

One of my friends has a daughter who might be drafted this year (will keep name anon for now). She has just put on Paul Peos as a Manager and the family are WC supporters but Peos advised them they would be better pursuing the Freo path as they are a better structured club at the moment and have the better support for younger players. Interesting

You need good structure on/off the field to win. Poor structures on either and you dont
oh we msut suck in structure as we not winning much such 2020..

Takes both Structure and players. We lost too many of our good players from our great year of 2020

5 years later we still on the path to recovery

So whilst Structure is important so is

1. Good coach
2. Good players.

Must have all the above as well as structure

If after this many years of great structure we still not winning Grand finals then we must look at the coach and players as the issue.

seems even the player managers are now just waiting for Cowan to get the boot for failures that extend far beyond lack of on-field wins so the club can heal and move forward. Pretty sad state of affairs. Only 4 survivors, sorry, long term WC players over 24 has left a gaping hole in their list. Good for Freo though.
