Georgie Brisbane stepped up from a bottom-age campaign to play out a key role for Vic Metro at the 2024 AFLW Under 18 Championships. Her last two years have been eye-catching for Eastern Ranges, running out in two consecutive Coates Talent League Girls Grand Finals, one as vice-captain of the club and another as captain.
Brisbane’s journey started at Kilsyth Junior Football Club back in 2017. She spent several years there until making the switch to play A Grade at Blackburn where in 2021, she made the interleague team. Following that successful season, the talented junior got scouted into the Eastern Ranges Futures and Vic Metro Under 16s followed.
The natural progression – which included getting onto Eastern’s Under 18s list – was the next step, and she was named vice-captain as a bottom-ager. She would play alongside a host of future AFLW Draftees including Laura Stone, Alyssia Pisano, Jess Vukic and close friend Hayley McLaughlin who would all reach the next level.
A Hawks fan since she was young, Brisbane put herself in the best possible position to reach the top level. After three games at Under 16s level for the Ranges, Brisbane played 28 over the next two seasons, averaging 11 touches per game as well as more than three marks and kicking 21 goals that period.
Though predominantly a tall forward, Brisbane also spent time on the wing thanks to her high work rate and impressive athleticism. She loves being inside 50 though, and that showed in her first Vic Metro Under 18s match as a top-ager. Against the Allies, she slotted five goals in a starring performance for the ‘Big V’.
It was made all the more impressive by the fact Brisbane started the season slowly, admitting perhaps subconsciously the pressure of her top-age season had got to her, but after a week off, she returned refreshed and hit the ground running never looking back.

At the National Championships, Brisbane booted seven goals from her three games - including five against the Allies - which saw her finish equal second on the overall table. Once the ball is on the ground, she is not afraid to put her body on the line and handball it out or tap it to the advantage of a teammate. Though she can still be a touch cleaner down there compared to her reliable aerial work, she has improved that element of her game too.
The main areas for Brisbane to improve are her defensive pressure - which admittedly has again stepped up from the past - and agility. She will apply blocks and bumps, but could lay more tackles or add ground level defensive acts to be an even more well-rounded player. Otherwise her agility is another element she has looked to work on, but her straight line speed on the lead, and particularly her endurance is very good.
Outside the athletic and aerial capabilities, Brisbane is also a smart footballer who can use the ball effectively and find targets around the ground. She ran at 73 per cent disposal efficiency at the national carnival, while setting up teammates as well as kicking goals herself. Her scoreboard impact speaks for itself, but not just individually, but as a collective forward group.
As a whole, Brisbane is a promising prospect who has a wide draft range given her clear strengths, exciting upside and composed character. Clubs will no doubt be impressed by her growth this year, both on and off the field as a leader for Eastern Ranges, and also co-captain for Vic Metro.

Egan is a promising talent with some high upside. She is tall, athletic and incredibly versatile. Though largely a defender/midfielder at the Bushrangers, and a defender at Vic Country, Egan can move up forward and provide a marking target inside 50 as well.
She has improved her ground level work in 2024 to have an even greater impact in that area. While always being a strong reader of the play and aerial player, Egan can complement that with her grunt work and contested ball-winning ability.
Egan is not afraid to lay tackles and it has shown most notably in recent weeks, with 25 tackles across her past three games at Coates Talent League Girls level. From here, her areas to further improve are her one-on-one contests and kicking consistency.
Her vision and understanding of the game are very good, and once again complement what she offers as an exciting rebounding defender who can pinch hit in the midfield. With more development throughout the rest of the season, Egan could become a well-rounded and great value player who could find a home in the middle of the draft with her upside evident.
