Hadn't heard this one yet, not sure if others have. Not a big issue, but thought folks might be interested.

HAWTHORN star Lance Franklin has had an operation to his famous kicking foot to clean out floating bone chips. But while the club confirmed that the key forward had the operation to his left foot, they stressed that it was only a ''very minor surgery'' that would barely interrupt his pre-season.
Club spokesman Clinton Bown told The Age last night: ''He has had minor surgery last week but we expect him to be running again by Christmas.
''It's very minor and we would expect him to fully recover and have full movement soon, but we just thought it was the right time to get that seen to and cleaned up. It's just bone fragments that have been removed from a joint in his foot.
''He's been doing all the training through the pre-season and he's gone up to Coffs Harbour and is doing some reduced training there, and we expect him to be in full training again towards the end of the month.''
Half of Hawthorn's playing group - all of the first- and second-year players, along with some of the more developed players - are tackling the Kokoda Track, while the rest of the squad - including Franklin, Brad Sewell and Sam Mitchell - has gone to Coffs Harbour for an intensive training camp. One thing is certain, Franklin is likely to have been given strict orders not to ignore doctor's warnings for his recovery from surgery like he did last year.
At season's end, after having an operation to his hand, Franklin boarded a plane for Bali and defied warnings from his surgeon not to go swimming, lest it get infected. He went surfing, his hand got infected and he required antibiotics.
''To be fair, he's been training exceptionally well and this was just an opportunity to have minor surgery to clean it out and get back to full training, so we wouldn't think this will set back his training at all,'' Bown said.

I love how they chucked in the little cheap shot at the end about him swimming in Bali and getting his hand infected when Buddy himself AND the club both denied that happened earlier this year.

The club seems to be always in cover up mode for our Buddster.

The guy did the injury at training. Although modifying his program and taping it up surgery was the option in the end to fix the problem.

the hand issue is a different kettle of fish and I am not sure why the reporter would bring that issue up again. Surely a player earning 500k a year and being told by a surgeon dont put your hand in water becuase it will get infected would be enough to prevent him going surfing. This surely must be false.

That was a weagle supporter who said Buddy had an injury last week. If I remember rightly he was bagged. I think someone(people) may owe an apology.I know you fella's will do the right thing and head straight over to ther board and apolagise.

How many players have now been required to have un-planned post season surgery?

Whitecross is one, Buddy as well now. Any others?

I know that both Mitchell and Goo had shoulder surgery but that was planned
surgery.

Our club are probably the biggest liers and best at hiding injuries, although I expect Franklin to be OK, Im still waiting to see him fully train in January before I shoe in anything.

More the problem was that they just posted that Franklin had a serious foot injury.

A. It does not sound serious.
B. They needed some more detail and a source.

The amount of times posters make up injuries about Franklin is unbelievable, like the boy who cried wolf, once they got it right.

Buddy was discharged on Saturday morning from the Epworth Boxhill. He had very minor surgery. He was very pleasant to the nurses and signed autographs. There is no more to the story

This is more positive news to me. I'm just tentative as I want every little thing to go right this pre-season, we deserve it as it felt like every player had an injury last year.

Franklin's foot Surgery

Heard about this on Monday, was confirmed on SEN today.
Anyone know the exact details, I have heard conflicting stories.
The most extreme of which is it was a fractured calcaneus least extreme simple bone scrape. Would be extremely disapointed if it were the calaneus bone, spoke to an orthopedic surgeon, said it could be up to 8 weeks non-weight baring.

Luckily it was only his right, which accordinging to Bay 13 folklore he has never used, so all should be fine.
